  1. how can the astros, a team that went to the world series last year and are off to a great start in 2006, not be considered a threat? and the brewers finished ahead of a cubs team that had an entire (not to mention ridiculous) season from derrek lee. i think some people forget that the cubs finished in fourth place in 2005.
  2. i don't buy for one second that pierre's speed has been affected by the weather. sorry. even if i were to buy that cold weather slows down guys to the point that it shaves 60-70 points off their OBP, i'm still not with you because it hasn't been that cold. you're acting like they've played half their games in snow. Did I say they played half of their games in snow? Did I say it shaves 60-70 points off his OBP? No. What I said is that weather does have an impact on a player built for speed....especially one who is from Louisiana and is used to playing in Miami. Have you ever played baseball? It also has an impact on the infielders born and bred in the Dominican Republic and Venezuela who have to set their feet and make a strong, accurate throw across the infield. The weather will affect more people than just Juan Pierre. i think the bad weather cloud just permanently hovers over pierre (like pigpen in peanuts) while the rest of the players bask in 80 degree sun.
  3. that doesn't even make sense. so the 6th hitter in the lineup is going to 'feed off' the 'excitement' pierre brought to the game two innings prior when he grounded out to second? how exactly does this feeding process work? Guys who play for the Cubs seem to disagree with you. hope that this isn't like telling a kid that santa doesn't exist, but sometimes baseball players spout off meaningless, empty cliches that are completely devoid of any substance...much like saying that he 'feeds' off a crappy leadoff hitter. if anybody's feeding off juan's sub-.290 OBP then they had to have been feeding off whoever was hitting leadoff last year b/c they were putting up similar numbers.

  5. in june, juan pierre is going to be so fast that he'll beat out routine groundballs to second twice a game Why are you exaggerating? In 650 AB, the difference between a .280 hitter and a .300 hitter is about 13 hits. Just missing an infield single every couple of games b/c your legs are cold/cramped/tight makes a big difference for a guy like Pierre. The Cubs have played 4 games this year with a temperature below 50 degrees, only 1 below 40. That's over 20% of our games, which isn't a negligible figure. WHO CARES IF IT'S COLD...50 DEGREE WEATHER DOESN'T MAKE YOU SLOW! where are you coming up with this stuff?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  7. hard to tell. he hasn't been on base much. i'll get back to you when he breaks the .300 OBP mark.
  8. i put zero importance in all three of the things that you give neifi credit for.
  9. as i've said before, the bitching about the bitching practically outweighs the bitching.
  10. Neifi is a bench player who brings a gold glove and flexibility to the middle infield positions yet still sucks? A LOT of MLB teams would take a gold glove middle infielder to serve in a backup role. yet he was somehow w/o a job until the cubs saved him (so he could save them in return, of course).

    Week 4

after much debate, the wang has been unleashed (back to the waiver wire). paps in for street just in time for papelbon to give up his first runs of the year, no doubt. edit: and then i see that patterson is going to miss a start, and i could have used wang to take his place. i've made a huge mistake.

stop being a wuss, drop Wang (who is very mediocre anyway), move Street to your reserve list and promote Papelbon. that's what i'm debating. i think you just want me to do it b/c wang has two starts next week. Actually, I didn't look at that. But I'd welcome you starting Wang twice and sitting a better pitcher. and who is that better pitcher? sure as [expletive] isn't oliver perez.

Nice - 10 outing from Lidge! he should keep the negative points in the single digits tonight. he's improving! blalock sends em home happy in arlington. is it too early to say that i was right about him having a rebound year?

i subbed ibanez for bradley because milton's being milton (by that i mean getting hurt and being a puss). it's really pissing me off that the a's haven't placed street on the DL. meanwhile, i have the best closer in baseball sitting on my minor league roster.
  16. indians, generally speaking, would have preferred hill starting tomorrow instead of guzman.
  17. agreed. they are fun to watch when they work.
  18. cubs as a team, home= 323 obp/420 slg cubs as a team, away= 317obp/415slg educated.
  19. I think Marshall's job is safe for at least one more start. yeah, i would say so.
  20. i just say it's stupid. It is? Was it stupid tonight with the wind howling in? Was it stupid when the Cards used it to beat the Cubs in a game last year? I think you are going to have a pretty hard time with your position. you're right...your sample size of two is irrefutable.
  21. crap, i set the over/under waaaay to high.

permission to use the f word w/ regard to the fact that juan encarnacion is going to match his weeks 1-3 point total in ONE GAME tonight. you shouldn't even get those points as punishment for having him on your roster.
  23. over/under on what time someone will start/bump a thread hyping small ball -- 9:43 CST.
