  1. two walks for patterson tonight, giving him 8 for the season (in 115 or so PA). pierre also has 8 walks (in 187 or so PA). amazing. he also had two more steals. nice trade jimbo !
  2. you don't think that a player, specifically one of patterson's breed, can go to a new team with a different coaching staff/approach and do better? that's essentially a change of scenery. that's a change in coaching staff. that can make a difference. but just saying the guy goes from la to seattle and poof, he's turned it around...i don't really buy that. not saying it doesn't happen, but it's not as frequent as people think.
  3. Huh? Why does anyone want to hear about a player sucking? Why should that be publicized? A player reviving his career, OTH, is actually news. i was just saying i don't buy the change of scenery argument.
  4. i think patterson is just going thru a spell of a lot of good bounces.
  5. i hate the change of scenery claim. it gets so overblown b/c when a guy goes to a new place and revives his career it gets all kinds of pub. the thousand other times when a struggling player goes to a new team and continues to suck, you don't hear anything about it.
  6. son of a... i benched nathan this week b/c he only had five games, and he scores 8.5 out of the pen tonight...that's hard to do!
  7. i couldn't find the other thread about how much better corey is than pierre, so i thought i'd start a new one. 3-3 (two doubles, homerun) tonight brings him to .306 on the year (.342ish OBP). 11 hits in his last five games. 13 stolen bases (in 14 attempts).
  8. i blame the grass.
  9. What's florida's record? against the $95 mil cubs? pretty darn good. and despite the 80 mil difference in payroll, the cubs are only four games ahead of the marlins.
  10. it's hard to criticize the "play the kids" philosophy while the cubs are in the midst of getting it handed to them by a lineup of seven rookies and a handful of rookie pitchers. by the way, murton and cedeno (2-6, hr, 2 rbis, bb, 2 runs) sure as hell outperformed walker, aram, pierre, jones (1-16) and dempster tonight.
  11. jones' homer sunday against a lefty assures him of being in the lineup against lefties for the next two months. please don't get hurt, kerry.
  12. how does zambrano count as a kid? I brought up the 5 kids cause I'm ticked that Cubs system continues to suck. ricky nolasco and renyel pinto looked pretty good last night. oops, those guys are on the marlins now b/c the cubs just had to have pierre and his .276 OBP. my bad!
  13. marshall's been good in may? 1-2, 6.15 era, 1.56 whip.
  14. how can you say these things w/ a straight face?
  15. He's too old for that. oops, forgot. i guess hill's the only guy not allowed to talk about it. and so baker chastises hill for commenting on aj's actions, basically taking aj/guillen's side on the matter. then, what, the next day, he's sticking up for barrett and inferring that aj instigated it. this organization is a joke.
  16. first of all, if anyone knows a stupid comment when he hears it, it's this idiot. secondly, guillen seems to have a lot to say about how crappy all the cubs' players are. he seems to have forgotten that he SUCKED as a player. and i mean neifi perez-style sucked. nice .625 career OPS, ozzie.
  17. if peavy starts twice, i'm in trouble.
  18. all those guys will spend 2007-2012 shutting out the cubs while playing for the marlins.
  19. uh oh, dempster's in line for a public lashing at the hands of baker and hendry.
  20. i wouldn't be skipping people at this point.
  21. owned by cub farmhands. new low point for the season. and the most hilarious.
  22. bob: blanco needs to get it going a little bit. really? that .050 average isn't cutting it?
