  1. the only time blanco's name should have the word 'wash' next to it is if it's his turn to do the laundry. he's old, overpaid, his contract is too long, and he's terrible. blanco's career OPS is .640, mirabelli's is .744.
  2. is it possible to fall down eight times and stand up nine? wouldn't you already be up?
  3. i think we're looking at the same jacque jones, but we certainly differ as to what constitutes awful. a .301 OBP, for example, is awful. i don't care where it ranks among the rest of this sorry team, it's bad. if you want to compare his #'s to others and rank them, how about ranking his OPS among other rf'ers w/ 80+ abs...he'd be 21st. or his OBP...he'd be 24th. so if you're going to say he's average, at least compare him to the rest of the league instead of his terrible teammates. i do agree w/ you that aramis and pierre have been awful. I guess I just want to hear people rip the other players just as much as Jones. It seems like some people don't like Jones as much as other players and they place more blame on him because of it, which isn't fair to Jacque. hard to feel sorry for a guy who has been doubled off 2nd base three times in two weeks. sorry. plus, i think everyone has been getting ripped lately. pierre is hurting the cubs worse than jones, and he gets plenty of grief on the board. aramis is given a bit of slack because of what he's done in the past, but i have a feeling that if he continues to suck, that will change.
  4. cedeno is 1) in his first full season 2) making 1/10th of the money jones is 3) a middle infielder, while jones is a corner OFer. see 1 and 2 from above. see 3 from above.

  6. And I'm trying to say that more people than just Jones should be blamed. I agree that Jones isn't free from blame, but it seems like he is used as a scapegoat more than anybody else. At first it was his hitting. But then he started to hit and people moved on to something else. The guy had something thrown at him today. Is that really justified? No. A lot of people look at his contract (which isn't his fault) and don't give him a chance to play. I don't mind placing some blame on Jacque but blame other people also. I brought this up in another thread, but Aramis deserves more blame than Jones does right now as does Pierre. The pitching staff hasn't exactly been up to par either. yeah, because tons of people in this thread have been saying that throwing stuff at jones is justified. come on. and who hasn't given him a chance to play? nobody here is stopping him. what does that even mean? jones deserves the blame he's gotten b/c he's been awful. he's sucked offensively, defensively, and on the bases. just b/c everyone else has sucked too doesn't mean jones gets a free pass.
  7. REALLY?????? you think? i would have been really concerned if he had said, "you know what...i stand by my decision to run to 3rd as the left fielder caught the ball. i'm not 100% clear on the rules, and i think that's allowed. i'd do it again should i get the chance."
  8. todd walker needs to quit talking. understand the game a little more? are you kidding me? in defending the guy who has been doubled off THREE times in the last two weeks (THREE!!!), you're telling the fans to understand the game a little more? maybe jones was passing by walker in the locker room and todd was talking to him.
  9. for a team that's lost 14 of 17 there sure seems to be a lot of blameless parties. apparently this horrendous stretch is simply nobody's fault.
  10. taking neifi's spot as the team savior? what a stupid organization.
  11. things are so bad fans are anxiously awaiting the return of a crummy career minor leaguer.
  12. As far as I'm concerned, he already has had his chance to work out of it. Keeping him after the 8-game losing streak was giving him that chance. The subsequent losing streak was him blowing that chance. The come-from-ahead loss on Saturday, followed by the 9-0 loss on Sunday, was the last straw. Time for him to go. no kidding. is every two game win streak from here on out going to erase the seven game losing streak that precedes it? lose eight in row, win two. he's safe. lose six out of seven, win two out of three. he's safe. lose nine out of ten, win two. he's safe. not that it matters anyway...this team isn't very good, baker or no baker.
  13. good grief, how long does dusty get to pull the team out of it? sooner or later they're going to luck into two straight wins...then is the whole losing for three straight weeks thing forgotten b/c he eventually pulled them out of it? sounds like you can lose 14 out of 16, but once you win a couple, you're in the clear as far as job security goes.
  14. wow, mabry has been awful. what a terrible bench hendry put together. blanco, mabry, and nine 2b...here's your contract extension, jim.
  15. brutal. that would make the '06 outfield look good.
  16. How's Pie looking.......... It figures, I move down to Mississippi after being in Iowa for a couple years and Pie goes to Iowa. i just got done w/ school on friday, so i've only been to one game. he ripped a shot down the 1b line on friday night, but got gunned trying to stretch it into a triple. he's got quite the arm. he almost threw out a guy trying to score from second on a basehit w/ an absolutely amazing throw. the baserunner didn't think it was going to be close enough to slide, and he about got embarrassed.
  17. yeah, that was close. i lost a bunch of ab's b/c of the rain in boston, and his pitchers were lights out. i was lucky to come out of that one on top.
  18. i was not particularly impressed by wood friday night. it was cold as [expletive] out there, but his velocity was down, and he was far from overwhelming. had it not been 40 degrees w/ the wind blowing in, he probably would have given up a 2 run homer in the first to shealy. i'm not getting my hopes up too high for him. thankfully, the team has done a good job of keeping my expectations down.
  19. pull the plug on hill? who do you suggest to take his spot? he's certainly outpitched guzman. and for all the fawning people do over marshall, it ain't like he's setting the world on fire either. hill is the least of the cubs' problems right now.
  20. wow, burgos just one upped turnbow. i don't think i want nathan anywhere near the game tonight.
  21. crap...turnbow blows a save on an infield single. we've got a barn burner going here.
  22. 93 pitch complete game shutout. it's not exaggeration to say that it is absolutely mind-boggling how this coaching staff still has jobs.
  23. sisco k's patterson. by the way, pierre only has three more walks than patterson. :pukel:
