  1. when savior pagan comes back, murton is going to ride that bench so hard.
  2. No, they should have TRADED Hill, back when everyone in baseball was under the impression he was the real deal. (Wasn't he the most sought after Cub prospect this offseason?) Now they'll be doing their usual move of selling low. I'd rather see them give Hill one more shot to prove himself. (Though I have my doubts whether he'll ever be as good as Hendry seemed to think.) have you seen hill's numbers over the past month or so? he's been one of the two or three best pitchers in all of minor league baseball this year, and he's doing it in a great hitter's league. not every team in baseball is as short-sighted and impatient as you (or dusty baker), and they realize that a handful of bad big league outings doesn't mean the guy's career is over. hill still has a lot of trade value. and i wish they'd trade him.
  3. http://us.news2.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/20060624/capt.96ae482917ad42bc8a6b6afb51293f89.cubs_lee_baseball_iacn101.jpg gah...i should have gone to the game. i could have easily knocked those kids down...
  4. until pagan (whose reputation with dusty/hendry seems to have inexplicably reached savior status) comes back. his return is the most hyped return for a .570 OPS fifth outfielder that i've ever seen.
  5. should be a close finish w/ raw and nsbb today too. two nsbb starts vs. none for raw. wow, i just realized that i'm tied for the highest score of the week...my team was terrible until thursday. scoring's down across the board.
  6. i agree...hill's getting screwed. but i'd still rather see guzman out there than marmol. if they could just dump maddux on someone or send marshall down to limit his innings, maybe then hill could crack the rotation.
  7. yeah, my starting pitching has been good for once...and i even left harang's 30 point shutout on the bench.
  8. good. Excellent. Marmol could use some AAA time, and Guz has little left to prove down there. So good. i wouldn't say that's the case at all. he's only had 40-ish innings of fairly average pitching at AAA, and he's coming off years of injury. it wouldn't bother me at all to see him at AAA. however, he's much closer than marmol...that's why i like the move.
  9. nope. i'm not even going to bother posting pagan's numbers, but let's just say that if the cubs miss his production, they're worse off than we thought. it must be nice to have built-in, ready excuses for your inevitable failure. when is this guy going to realize that NO team gets to play the entire season w/ a full roster...ridiculous. and now that bynum and womack (who have contributed nothing to this team) are hurt, he's still got the "horses" excuse in his back pocket. he must love it.
  10. teixeira's quest to catch damon hollins for 50th place in the AL hr race takes another step as he homers for the second straight game...he just needed a couple games in coors to get his swing back.
  11. who 13 in des moines reported that he was called up at around 10 pm.
  12. There was no other position player left on the bench, was there ? no, but if bynum's good enough to start against a righty, why not let him hit there? similarly, why ph walker for neifi when you brought neifi in a few innings earlier to play 2b? guess baker's got to get his double switch fix in somehow.
  13. heh, murton getting the choi/dubois treatment...gets his ab's against the good pitchers.
  14. ALL of us want a winner right away. We're all frustrated at the incompetence this organization has shown lately. However, making the best possible trade is NOT going to delay winning a World Series; hopefully it would make it closer. And the fact that your hatred for the Sox is blinding you to the issue of improving the Cubs that's your problem. Not mine, not other Cub fans', and certainly not the Cubs organization's.And if we make a trade that puts the Sox over the top, you can expect fans like me to revolt. And what would this revolution entail? demanding we build a team to win it all RIGHT AWAY!!! uh oh, look out for that.

  16. wow, i had an offensive explosion yesterday. those 100 point days sure do make your weekly score look respectable no matter how bad it was before that. and i'll take an 8 point outing from a RP any time!
  17. it rained pretty hard around des moines a couple hours ago. it's not raining now, but the skies are ominous.
  18. who cares? the fact is, he put up a 3.11 era and a k per inning out of kc's pen last year at the age of 22 and the cubs got NOTHING for him. i don't know how you can defend that. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=7470 Who cares what Sisco did LAST yr. This yr, he has been MISERABLE. He is a headcase, that will be nothing more then a average middle reliever. But hey...Sisco and Rauch can tryout for the Bulls, since they both have size. Neither can pitch effectively, but hey let's see what they can do on the basketball court. Fact is...Sisco is prolly not going to amount to much in MLB, and to think they could have gotten something reasonably for Sisco, is foolhardy. thanks for the laugh. i'd add more, but the two people above me said all that needs to be said. ridiculous.
  19. wow, those must be 20 telling innings that marmol has thrown.
  20. the announcers on weei said that ortiz was picked up by the o's.
  21. from the des moines register... good to see hill throwing strikes and keeping his pitch count down. striking out 10 over 7 innings on just 105 pitches is pretty economical.
  22. from the trib...
  23. as i'm sure everyone can tell, he's my favorite prospect...has been for some time. but at this point, i'd really prefer the cubs trade him. he's ticked off baker, for one, and if there was ever a manager who plays his favorites, it's baker. secondly, before the season started, it was pretty clear the cubs considered gooz and marshall to be ahead of hill. now it appears as though they favor marmol over hill as well. that puts him fourth, at best, in line as far as young starting pitchers go. i don't think there's a shot in hell that the cubs go into '07 w/ zambrano, prior and three first/second year guys, so i really don't see a spot for hill w/ the team. and since he isn't getting any younger, i'd rather they give him a shot elsewhere before he winds up pitching in the PCL until he's 33. i don't know who i'd want them to trade him for, but his value is likely as high as it's been since his ascent through the system last year. trade him.
  24. petrick loves him some groundballs.
