  1. the fact that you have watched cub baseball makes it even more mind-boggling that you're in support of throwing money at one year wonders.
  2. i don't think anyone's defending him outside of today.

i may have too many exempt players... s drew fielder martin hill papelbon liriano and potentially laroche i may have to move some of those guys, or i'm going to be 1000 points under the limit...

    papelbon is such a [expletive].
  5. I did. You don't give a large three-year contract to a guy coming off a year that's clearly out of line with his past: WHIP 2000: 2.16 2001: 1.40 2002: 1.55 2003: 1.51 2004: 1.33 2005: 1.08 __________ 2006: 1.48 2007: 2.17 Now really, what in those six years above the line, aside from 2005, says "give this guy a big three-year contract." I don't see anything. Our bullpen in the years prior to his signing was horrible. ...because the cubs gave a bunch of money to other middle relievers coming off good seasons. man, have you even watched the last four seasons of cubs baseball? every middle reliever the cubs have given big money to have been tremendous disasters...i guess hendry isn't the only one who doesn't learn.
  6. and people think the bullpen is ok.
  7. i don't care what anyone says, this pen is awful. don't tell me that losses are a bad way to judge a pen or that their era isn't that bad. it's a poorly constructed, redundant, expenisve, terrible bullpen. there's not one guy out there that i would miss.

his curve was pretty good tonight...he couldn't do anything with that slider-type version of it, however. a fair number of the hits were bloops, but the walks (especially to shitty hitters) are a problem. and yeah, he's going to give up homers. after a couple rough outings (against good offenses) i'm hoping for a 13 k type performance soon. the cubs are just, at best, a second tier team...no way around it.
  9. the mets are just considerably better than the cubs.

nothing like being able to flip back and forth b/w hill walking damien easley and the mets' pitcher (who, for good measure, is owning the cubs)and blanton mowing down 63 straight AAA players currently on the royals' roster.
  11. jones literally looks like he has two broken arms when he swings and misses. what a sorry bunch of outfielders the cubs have.
  12. he looked pretty filthy the first couple innings, but he has no control over his slider-y curve right now.
  13. another freaking bloop followed by a damian frappin' easley homerun. about time for bed.
  14. jeez, soriano, how about a little hustle? this team is obnoxious.
  15. i don't know about that...it was hard hit but pretty routine.
  16. weren't even on the screen. i don't agree w/ walking loduca.
  17. well, that sucked. were floyd and jones laying down out in the outfield or something?
  18. you deserve bad things when you walk easley.
  19. man, this team walks a lot of crappy hitters ahead of really good hitters.
  20. yeah, those were three rockets.
  21. man, he really doesn't strike batters out. weird.
  22. so rothschild gets credit for the guys that have improved but no blame for the guys that haven't?
  23. He obviously doesn't have a noodle, but he doesn't have a Howitzer either. I am sure he could cut it, and I am all for it if playing RF keeps him in the lineup - but my point is that he is suited better for LF than RF. Having a stronger armed guy in RF is absolutely NOT asinine. Have you ever made that throw from deep right to 3rd base? If you can hit that on a line, you have talent. Soriano could do that, so I have always wondered why they were not working him out in RF in Spring Training. If you think about it, late in a close game is when a player is REALLY going to consider when and when not to run on an OFers arm. When you have a Dawson, Vladimir Guerrero, or any other strong armed RFer - you are going to stay at 2nd instead of running on him. You can't tell me that is not invaluable. that happens, what, once every two weeks?
  24. Really? Seem's to me that he's doing a good job with Marquis and the other starters. Well, minus Z. rothschild may have "fixed" marquis, but he's about the only success story he's had. wouldn't bother me if he got canned.
