closers lose a bunch of points through runs allowed and total bases if they blow a save, so they still get negative points. plus, blown saves can be kinda fluky too...papelbon blew a couple last year coming in with one out in the 8th with a runner at 3rd and a one run lead...give up a sac fly, and that's a tough way to lose 3 points.
  2. should be a fun rest of the season! ps - hobbling 35 year old corner outfielders with a .710 OPS shouldn't get a lot of playing time.
  3. i put the blame on the guy who walked three straight hitters. but that's just me.
  4. that's why you can't stick in the big leagues, wuertz. damn, is he frustrating.

no one forces you to take a bunch of non-closers. i agree that points for the save are kinda pointless when you're not counting wins or holds, but w/o the save points middle relievers would be worth more than closers, and that's not right.

I predict I'll come up short of the playoffs and therefore deeply regret trading Gordon. but feel good about trading aramis to me. :D
  7. So he's just sitting around not doing anything at this point? Awesome. yeah, he should be out personally apologizing to every cubs fan in america...and giving them each part of the money he stole from the cubs.
  8. dempster was made a closer b/c he sucked as a starter. myers was a good starter.
  9. Why, because it points out one of your corner outfielders is as about as prductive as Neifi Perez with about 1/3 of the ABs. It certainly ruffles the feathers around here to point out the flaws of the boards favorite son. Quick, guess who has the best OPS this year out of Murton, Floyd, and Jones. Hint: The answer is not Floyd or Jones He's had a couple of good games. I hope it is a sign of things to come. Ruh roh, you just backed off! The easiest way to prove that you have no case is to back off the moment stats that make a lot of sense directly ruin your point. If you look at the season prior to the PHI series, Murton had the lowest OPS out of the 3. if you look at the one ab where floyd homered and the one where murton struck out, floyd is obviously better.
  10. Barfield is good... at what? :( couldn't resist. :D

  12. i can think of a flap of skin on beckett that may be hurt. it's centrally located. sorry, just some bad feelings toward him from last season. no thanks on biggio, chris.
  13. and i'm willing to trade some of that first place pitching for a 2b or 3b.
  14. HR and RBI clearly the best way to compare. No not really, but when Neifi has been as productive in 49 fewer AB's it says something. Would I rather have Neifi than Murton? No, but Murton isn't nearly as good as the popular opinion on this board thinks he is. and you're basing that on the first month of the 2007 season? No. He's always been overrated here. based on your subjective feelings, which don't mean anything.

  16. today's wasn't the worst of them...izturis, who has a knack for dribbling the ball back to the pitcher, and lilly were due up. watching him at iowa, i always thought he was too conservative. he's doing a good job of erasing that perception.
  17. over the past few weeks myers has been one of the best relievers in the game. still not worth a first round pick, but it's better than him pitching in middle relief.
  18. Murton's put up nearly a 1.000 OPS this month. If you consider .735 nearly 1.000. if you consider april + may to be may.
  19. i wondered how long it was going to take before tim cracked and started selling off his prized prospects.
  20. would you rather see 56 year old floyd limp his way to a .730 OPS? or jones hit .078 against lefties? as i said in the game thread, the cubs' problem isn't too many outfielders, it's too many shitty outfielders. and this pen is just a disaster. i don't know how howry has ever had success...he throws a straight 92 fastball right down the middle with no breaking pitch to speak of and an occasional change up in the dirt. what a tremendous waste of money this pen is.
  21. how did howry ever get this far with a straight 92 mph fastball and nothing more?
  22. you are awful, howry. typical outing for him...no wonder his era is so low...he just lets everyone else's runners score.
  23. if floyd wasn't running on a wooden leg, he would have beaten that out.
