the reds pitching is just killing me. zimmerman and lopez already have huge weeks.

i'm watching cabrera melt down against the jays, and he makes zambrano look like james bond when it comes to composure.
  3. yeah, because hendry's earned the benefit of the doubt with the stellar work he's done over the past three seasons.
  4. There are very few "top hitters" as unproductive as Soriano. Most top hitters maintain solid numbers and get their great numbers out of streaks. The problem with Soriano is he's not a top hitter. He needs his hot streaks just to keep his numbers out of the trash bin. It all depends on what you call a "top" hitter. You get past Bonds, Pujols, Cabrera, and a few others and the most of therest of them are really streaky. We are in an era of guys who hit 40 HRs and strike out 180 times and are considered "top" hitters. and soriano's probably not going to hit 40 homers.
  5. how many times do their contract differences have to be pointed out?
  6. It's possible both are true. Hendry will give him starts to prove health, thus enabling a trade. Hendry couldn't trade him while he was on the shelf. But he could decide to do the right thing for the team and not handicap them with somebody like Miller on the mound. i hope hendry is not stupid enough to jeopardize his own job because he had some kind of ole timey, handshake, man of his word deal with miller.
  7. Of course he has. When you're dealing with this organization expect anything possible..anything. Yes. Closer though -- this is no middle relief role. As closer, Guzman's talents could benefit us as much or more than as a 5th starter who only makes it on the field 2, 3 times a month. who are you, charlie manuel? you don't measure how much a guy can contribute by how many times he "makes it on the field."
  8. did miller's mom write this or what? what a puff piece.
  9. good point. people seem to forget that the NL instituted a "strike outs count for two outs" policy this season while the AL instituted a "strike outs count for half an out" policy. well said.
  10. for some reason i'm picturing that emo dude sitting on bench writing a crappy song about rbi's.

platinum sombrero for aj...ouch. myers has turned into quite the closer. still a stupid decision, but it's worth a lot of points for me.
  12. that seems impossible.
  13. ok, so now dempster's back to the pen.
  14. he's already taken guzman out of the rotation, and that's stupid enough. seriously...he's taking dempster out of the closing role, calling up marmol, moving guzman from starter to closer and making a dempster a starter based on the ny game? and now it's all being reconsidered because dempster pitched one good inning the other day? if all that is true...wow.
  15. no...as we've seen, it's not the guy who sucks that gets punished, it's an arbitrary young player. my money is on veal being sent to extended spring training. if the move really is to simply swap the roles of dempster and guzman, you just have to laugh. if anyone really thinks that taking two guys who are doing their jobs and just switching their roles is going to fix anything, that person shouldn't be in baseball. hey, let's just have lee play lf and soriano play 1b...see what happens.

i vote that, yes, you can put him back in.
  17. the starting pitching is soooo strong i think we should remove a good starter and move him to the bullpen.
  18. wow, hurting the rotation AND the bullpen with one move...hard to do.
  19. instead of changing around all the guys that are doing well, how about we start getting rid of the guys that suck? hey, let's send aramis to AAA because izturis is terrible. i don't see how this could happen...there's no way he's stretched out for more than 40-50 pitches. it would take three starts before he could work six innings.
  20. you can blame lou for punishing guzman for those guys' failures.
  21. i'm on board with the idea that the pen sucks, but potentially crippling the rotation in an attempt to fix it is cutting off the nose to spite the face.
  22. It's not a poor argument at all. Our pen is a joke. Guz isn't a dominant SP. The argument that he's worth more as a starting pitcher b/c he'd throw more innings is ridiculous. You have to actually pitch well in those starts for that argument to be even remotely valid. Gooz has the stuff to be lights out in the pen. He doesn't have the stuff to consistently dominate as a ML starter. that is complete crap and a laughable basis for your terribly weak argument. supporters of this move seem to be operating under the assumption that whoever replaces guzman will be as good or better than him, and that's not necessarily true. until someone proves to me that 3 (probably the greatest number of innings he'll throw in a week out of the pen) is greater than 6 (the number of innings he could throw as a starter), i'm not buying into this argument.
  23. boo hoo. if people make terrible arguments, they're going to get torn apart.
  24. when wade miller becomes the 5th starter and the cubs lose his first start 9-2, i hope all you people supporting this move aren't calling for miller to get bumped out of the rotation.
