if people are expecting an offense with pagan/pie in cf, theriot/izturis at ss, fontenot at 2b, bowen/hill at catcher, and floyd in rf to score runs at the pace they have over the past couple weeks, they are going to be very disappointed.

but look how well the pitchers (hill especially!) have thrown since the trade. If we're going to draw conclusions about results since that trade, then it's important to add that the Cubs are 10-3 since it was completed. and they're doing it in spite of the catchers (see the sub .100 average) not because of them.

Yeah but we have to hit Matt Chico. It wouldn't be so bad a start if it was by itself, but he has done this in three of his last four now. He needs to make some adjustments. i don't think anyone is saying that hill hasn't been bad lately. he was really bad today and against the padres. i actually thought he wasn't terrible against the brewers, but he was obviously far from good. the break is coming at a good time for him.

yeah, we'll see what the catcher era people have to say about this terrible tandem when the cubs start losing games 4-2.

oh well, better to have a bad start and no offense on the same day, i suppose. should have seen an offensive letdown coming with hill on the mound...

I think it's the right call, but Hill is leaving the curve up and hanging it. If he could bury it in the lower part he'd get the K. yeah, i was joking...hill looks terrible today. Don Sutton is saying he is tipping his curveball. good thing the cubs have a pitching coach that's all over that.

understatement of the century... really? because when i looked up soriano at baseball reference, i coulda swore lenny was one of his comparables.

honestly, are cedeno's supposed bunting/baserunning deficiencies really that important? cedeno's a better defender, and i would think that would more than make up for any bunting/running differences. and if you'll remember the early part of this season, theriot was a butcher in the OF...plus, a shortage of guys who can play the OF is the least of the cubs' concerns.

i really wonder what zambrano's teammates think of him. do you think lee appreciates his public backing of young? or do you think the rest of the team likes him talking about siging w/ the white sox/cardinals? or all the talk he made about individual awards? or the punching people in the face? or the grand gestures he makes toward guys on the field?

well, like i said in my rejection, you're a game ahead of me in the division and i know you need a closer. if you think i'm going to do your team a favor, you're crazy. if i'm going to make a trade w/ you, i have to feel like i'm really, really getting the better end of the deal. think about it from my perspective...why would i help fill a hole for one of my biggest rivals when all i'm getting in return is a guy (beltre) i wouldn't even be able to use? and capps has outscored rivera by a huge margin this season. I'm laughing now cuz Matt just showed me what you offered him. That has to be one of the worst deals I've ever seen.. lol! he seemed like he was in a generous mood that day, so i took a shot.
