exactly. fukudome + hill would be better and cheaper than trading for tejada and trading/signing a SP to take hill's spot. We can trade for Tejada without including Hill. I'm absolutely certain of that. i think you're probably right.

Because they pay for garbage. Just because you spend money doesn't mean you will win. really? thanks for the econ lesson. i would say "i wish my team would spend money wisely," not "i wish my team would spend less money." if they spend less, but still spend it foolishly, you're a lot worse off than if they spend a lot foolishly.

why in the hell would you want your favorite team to decrease payroll?

the extra boost is only going to make the blanco, eyre, etc. contracts hurt more when the cubs are $5 mil short in getting arod instead of $20 mil.

that's fantastic news! now that i know the cubs have more guys (that's plural!) that will be in the top 10 in the NL in whip, k/9, h/9, k's, k/bb, i feel much better about the team's future. -

that's my problem with it too. it's just like the maddux/izturis trade...dump someone i don't care about dumping, but what we're getting back is even worse.

i probably would have waited to make sure i got fukudome before i traded jones.

if the cubs' only OF option is fukodome, and they somehow end up not getting him, they will have a really bad OF next year.

people will complain if they want. also, i'm not as upset about losing jones as i am infante taking up a spot on the roster. it's like the maddux deal...getting rid of a guy i have no problem with getting rid of, but getting worse roster filler in return. i would have preferred just trading jones for a C+ prospect and eating half the $.

he may not be terrible, but it's crazy to think about dumping $40 mil on him. any number of guys could give you comparable production for less than a million bucks.
