doesn't SF have a huge outfield? i'm not sure i want ward out there at all during this series. -
very fortunate to win last week considering fielder, uggla and rollins combined for 10.75 and blanton and dempster combined for -44. thank goodness for the duke and jonathan sanchez. looks like i'm the big loser in the russell martin trade. at least sanchez has been good (and exempt).

i'm not worried, but i'm annoyed for the first time this season. they're playing pretty stupid baseball.

but really lineup changes are made on monday morning/after the games start on sunday. some people don't have time on monday morning though. well, you could set your lineup for the week anytime after noon on sunday too. not if waivers run on sunday night. well, if you want to make a waiver claim, you'll just have to tend to your business on monday morning. i think that's better than me being unable to make a waiver claim on a guy if i was in a close matchup this week. unless we allow for some kind of "you can make a lineup change for sunday's game if the guy you're inserting into the lineup was a waiver pick up" rule. i'd be fine with that too.

shouldn't waivers run sunday night instead of saturday? i picked huff up off waivers and dropped my previous 3b. technically i shouldn't be able to add huff to my lineup for the last day of the week, but since i dropped my old 3b, the only option would be to just not have a 3b. doesn't matter this week anyway, as my matchup isn't close, but i just think it work better if waivers ran sunday night. was there a reason we had them run saturday night?

While I do think the Cubs will make the playoffs, I'll be less than shocked if they fall out of first at one point, possibly before the break. is that even mathematically possible?

Uh, yeah, the fact that they're still cranking out quality starts by guys like Looper, Lohse, and Wellemyer when those other guys are gone. Thats pretty lucky. How many teams would be able to stay above water with their 3 top starter gone?

my goodness, don't you people remember last year when the cardinals hung around despite having a team full of scrubs, only to fall apart late in the season and finish below .500 and 7 games out? same thing's going to happen this year, except they'll probably finish 10+ games out. quit whining about the frickin' cardinals...it makes cubs fans look like white sox fans. you know, the fans everyone around here likes to mock for having an obnoxious, unhealthy obsession with their rival?

Arguing that we have had some luck has no bearing on how lucky the Cardinals have been. We've had some players over achieve, and we've had some underachieve. It's hard to find anyone on the Cards roster that is underachieving right now. no it's not. how about chris carpenter? he has zero innings pitched...i'd say that's underachieving.

i like the post that said "cardinals have been lucky with pitching," followed immediately by pointing out that carpenter, wainwright and mulder are all hurt. so lucky!
