    i think the cubs are (were?) a bit concerned about hill. he threw in the bullpen for quite a while after his last terrible outing, and they had a guy stand there like he was a hitter, which seems a little strange. also, i was walking to my seat yesterday at hohokam when i walked by an open door to the cubs' weight room. i stood there and watched fukudome, wood and dempster (who did a LOT of stuff considering he was pitching that day) do their exercises for a while, then hill came in and went through his pitching motion a bunch of times while looking in the mirror. ps - he also pulled himself up on the pull up bar and hung by his knees like a monkey for a second, and i really wish i could have gotten my camera out to catch that moment because it would have made a great avatar.

    i wonder how concerned the cubs are about hill. after he came out the other day he went out to the pen and threw for 10 minutes with a guy standing in the batter's box.

    i mean, maybe they got screwed, but they'd lose in the first or second round anyway. that's why i really don't feel too bad for bubble teams that don't get in. which is why two bubble teams should have to play the tuesday play-in game to get in as the 12 seed or something Yeah, they just said that on Mike and Mike. What do you guys think about Bobby Knights idea of having 128 teams? It is just one more game. that would take all the excitement out of the conference tournament week. every big east, acc, big ten team with a winning record would make the tournament.

    You can move him to the DL right now to avoid dropping players knowing he won't be on the DL. This way you could have a legal roster, and avoid making cuts. well, i'm assuming he would have to be injured and not playing in spring games to be put on the DL. you can't just randomly put some dude on the DL. are there non-injured players on teams' DLs?

    where's the gray area? if a guy on your DL doesn't start the season on the DL, you lose him.

    i thought they could still be on the DL (if they're hurt and not playing and likely to be on the DL), but if they end up not starting the season on the DL, they had to be dropped.

    they have to win some of those games against tough competition for SOS to matter. playing a bunch of good teams and losing doesn't help your cause.

    exactly. hard to feel sorry for a 19-12 team or whatever. and yeah, asu may have been ariz twice, but it's not like asu didn't have a bunch of bad losses. i maybe can understand some of the whining about seeds for teams that just want to win a game or two. but i don't feel sorry for unc having to play in a tough region. i mean, isn't their goal to win the whole thing? then what does it matter if they have to play tennessee to get to the final four? if they're the best, aren't they going to have to beat the second best anyway?

    what teams do you have an issue with? just seems like they dismissed conf. tourney results in some instances and regular season in others (more in terms of seeding than who was in our out). Tennessee should NOT be in the same regional as UNC. Kansas shouldn't have to potentially play Texas in Houston in the Elite 8. Arizona St. got shafted. also, does anyone else think the play-in game should be between two at-large teams? i think that if you earn an automatic bid to the tourney, you should be in period. or eliminate the play-in game, which is altogether lame to begin with sounds like you only have a beef about one team not getting in -- arizona state. your original post sounded like you had more issues with the teams that got in/didn't get in more than seeding, where teams were playing, etc.

    like i said, i'm fully aware of the fact that my pitching may drag me down. and i don't disagree with your assessment of ubaldo, wang, liriano, dempster or villanueva in the slightest. but there's a hell of a long time between now and the end of the season, and if my rotation as it sits now is my rotation at the end of the season, i'll be shocked. have i ever stood pat at the trading deadline?? again, it's not like my rotation is dempster, suppan, marquis, glavine and doug davis. the guys i have are tradeable even if they are underperforming.

    what was that, like ten years ago? i'm glad to hear you (and others) are a little insecure about your team. because i actually feel pretty damn good about mine. this might be the best offense i've had, and that's saying something given the offense i had the year i traded for teix and beat tim for my first (?) title. Your pitching has a fantastic opportunity to suck badly. That should concern you. Dempster is realistically your best 5th starter option. eh, not really worried about it. hill and wang will probably be top 30. liriano has the potential to be even better. worst case scenario is hill, liriano and ubaldo all pitch OK, but not up to championship-caliber standards, and i trade one or more of them to a team out of the race for a starting pitcher upgrade. with their exemptions, even a struggling hill/liriano/ubaldo is valuable to a team out of it. it'd be different if 3/5th's of my rotation had the potential to flop but weren't exempt.

    and as far as me losing all my exemptions, i'll still have martin, hill, liriano, corpas, ubaldo and uggla as exempt after this season. i'll only be losing fielder (so so so so close to getting another one for him under the new rules) and wang.

    i love that people concede that soriano is a better hitter than theriot, but not a better leadoff hitter. lol. lol indeed.

    little leaguers may play how they practice, but i don't think big leaguers do.
