  1. I wish he would miss more bats though. Oh man Bay just ticked off Soto. Me too. But his curve ball has been very impressive. Absolutely froze a few hitters already today.
  2. What is being overlooked is that Gallagher's stuff has looked electric at times today. That is more exciting to me than Soriano's and Geo's awesomeness. DLee is a very good defensive first baseman.
  3. This is why you take the bad with the good. The guy can absolutely put a team on his back and carry them. Although this team doesn't really need to be carried right now (especially against the way we play against the Pirates)
  4. Wow. I hope this is some form of sarcasm/humor. But it doesn't sound like it, so my suggestion to you is to go get some help immediately.
  5. I love Cedeno as much as anyone. And I REALLY want him to play. But it's hard to bench Theriot with how he's been playing so far this year. That won't last and I expect Ronny to be the everyday shortstop by the end of the year.
  6. Yeah I know, right. Reed Johnson would NEVER leave 4 men on base! How many times did Reed Johnson bat 6th? Because I'm sure Edmonds demanded that Lou bat him 6th. Seriously, it just sounds like everyone is taking their problems with Lou's stupidity out on Edmonds. And quite frankly, it's rather annoying. I love the new Cedeno.

  8. If the only other option was that he had to sit everyday in Chicago, you'd have a point. But that was not the situation. He didn't have to sit in Chicago. The right choice was to play him. The wrong one was to bench him for Reed Johnson. Making another mistake to cover up that mistake is just plain stupid. But that has NOTHING to do with Edmonds, which is what they were arguing about. I think even Sulley would agree that the number 1 option would be Pie in the majors playing everyday. However, that doesn't appear to be an option at this point. It is and it was an option. OMG. Are you serious? Have you watched RJ get start after start the past month and a half and Lix get 5 ABs per week? Seriously...come on. And that was somehow forced upon the Cubs by the league? No! That's Lou being stupid. We agree on that. I don't, and i don't believe Sulley or anyone, wants Edmonds over Pie. Now listen closely. The reality is that Pie is not getting an opportunity to play consistently right now. So I feel that I'd rather take my chances with Edmonds hitting RHP than Reed Johnson. Furthermore, I'd rather have Pie getting consistent PT at Iowa than him ride the bench here. So everyone should get over their trivial hatred for Edmonds and cheer for him to do well so that the team does well.

  10. If the only other option was that he had to sit everyday in Chicago, you'd have a point. But that was not the situation. He didn't have to sit in Chicago. The right choice was to play him. The wrong one was to bench him for Reed Johnson. Making another mistake to cover up that mistake is just plain stupid. but then the edmonds signing is moot. pie wasn't going to play anyway so the edmonds signing isn't risking "screwing him up even more". Sulley, I would just stop now. These people can't see through their hatred for Edmonds. He's so gay and wears makeup and dives at balls unnecessarily LOLOL.

  12. I hope not. He's a Cub now (for now) so people need to just get over it. I'd boo Barry Bonds if he was a Cub. Well thats completely different. Bonds (presumably) took steriods. So you have a moral issue with how he achieved his success. It seems to me that most people don't like Edmonds because he unnecessarily dives too much, is thought of by ESPN as a great defensive player, watches his home runs, doesn't like the locker rooms at Wrigley, and complains about questionable calls against him. Seems pretty petty to me. I should say that I was largely against signing him. However, he's here now and there's nothing we can do about it. Perhaps he has a good few months, which would make the Cubs a better team. If not, he'll be released and in the meantime Pie will get consistent ABs.

  14. What a steal. Why does this mean the end for the Prince? I'm sure they can afford both.
  15. What a steal. Why does this mean the end for the Prince? I'm sure they can afford both.
  16. I could see Lee, Soto, and Fukudome all having a chance to get voted in. Right now the most deserving players to this point are: C-Soto 1B-Berkman 2B-Utley SS-Ramirez (stong case can be made for Furcal as well) 3B-Chipper OF-McLouth OF-Holliday OF-Burrell Ludwick probably deserves to be on there instead of one of those OF, but I refuse to acknowledge his ridiculous start to the season.
  17. First major league start of his career, with little notice, against the team with the best record in baseball, he pitches a shutout through 4 innings, and that's a BAD start? What planet are you from? he gave up a run in the first. it wasn't a terrible start, but it wasn't really a good one. he showed some good things though and i'm glad he's sticking in the rotation. Given the circumstances, I'd consider it a good start. The overall results look bad, but that's more indicative of the situation than of the way Sean pitched. He looked real sharp out there in innings 2-4. Like Mr. Gallagher said, he was nervous in the first (I'm pretty sure I'd be a little nervous too in my first ever ML start) and calmed down in the 2nd. He pitched great in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings and it was apparent he lost gas in the 5th. As many people have stated this is almost exclusively due to being in the BP the past 2 weeks, not throwing much since being called up, and learning that he was getting the start only an hour or two before he had to get on the bump. I was very impressed with what he was able to do through 4 against one of the best offenses in the league. All that said, I wouldn't get too excited about the amount of Ks. It was nice to see, but it was against the D-Backs, who have a lot of hitters that strike out a lot. In fact, I'm pretty sure I can strike out Mark Reynolds. Everything considered, it was a very encouraging start and I'm excited to see his start on Friday. I hope he pitches well and can stick in the rotation as the 5th starter. Congrats to Sean, Mr. Gallagher, and the rest of his family. They should be very proud of their son, and it sounds like he's a good kid. As others have stated, we all really appreciate you sharing your experiences, Mr. Gallagher. It's really cool to see the stuff behind the scenes and hear Sean's true reactions to the game. He should be proud of himself.
  18. I actually wouldn't mind Marquis pitching like the true Jason Marquis in his next start. It will probably mean that Hill would take his spot instead of Gallagher's (assuming Gallagher can pitch a decent game against the Pirates) when he's ready to come up. Obviously Gallagher starting instead of Marquis will likely make us a better team in the long run. As stubborn and short-sited as Lou occasionally is (RJ over Pie against RHP), he usually will eventually figure out the right guys to put in there. I have faith that Pie will be starting almost exclusively against RHP in the not too distant future (although RJ's big homer today will probably make that take longer than it should), and when Theriot cools off I can see Cedeno getting a lot more PT. I also think our rotation will end up going: Zambrano, Lilly, Dempster, Hill, Gallagher by the time it's all said and done.
  19. So who is everyone rooting for between the Cards and Brew Crew? I mean you want the Cards to lose so we can get a share of first place, but over the course of a season I think the Brewers will be the better team. Personally, I'm just rooting for a 26 inning game that blows out both bullpens.
  20. Is that what happened? Gameday just says Hall out at home. I assumed it was a wild pitch ala Fontenot. I doubted the awesomeness of Yost. Kendall missed the sign. He didn't even attempt to bunt at it.
  21. What was annoying was that Grace said during the Soto bat, that wit the D'backs INF playing back, conceding the run. All Soto has to do was put the ball on the ground and the Cubs would lead 1-0 (or something to the affect), and the first thought was,,,,with ARam at 3rd, I want a fly ball in the OF. And WAY the heck is Ojeda making that throw in the 2nd inning? That doesn't bode well for the D'backs chances at scoring if they are making those kind of decision. They luck out and get the out, but that's not a good decision by Ojeda. How was that not a good decision? It was an easy decision. Ramirez was barely off third when Ojeda got the ball. Just a decent throw easily gets ARam. It wasn't a good decision, period. ARa got a bad jump off third base, which the decisione easier. But had ARam got a good jump off third, Ojeda would have settle for the out at first. It's never a good idea to throw home early in the game unless: A. You don't think you are going to score many runs. B. You got an extremely slow runner at third, to which better your chances at throwing the guy out. Throwing home this early in the game is always a stpuid decision. D'Bags got lucky it worked out, but had it not, the Cubs would be 1-0, and would have turned the lineup over quicker. There was no upside into throwing home this early. But fortunately for them, they got the out. But 9 out of 10 times, Ojeda doesn't make that throw. Yes, 9 times out of 10 he doesn't make that throw, because 9 times out of 10 the runner doesn't get THAT horrible of a jump off third. He caught the ball looked and saw where Ramirez was and knew he could easily throw him out. I don't care how early it is in the game, you never give up a run if you have that good of a chance to throw the runner out. Period. We just got a break on that call. EDIT: nevermind, the catcher dropped the ball.

  23. Well they were giving up the run so it was the right move. Ramirez just had to do a better job of reading the hit and breaking right away. Oh well...we've had some hard hit balls off Mad Max already. I think we'll get him the 2nd time through the order.
