First major league start of his career, with little notice, against the team with the best record in baseball, he pitches a shutout through 4 innings, and that's a BAD start? What planet are you from? he gave up a run in the first. it wasn't a terrible start, but it wasn't really a good one. he showed some good things though and i'm glad he's sticking in the rotation. Given the circumstances, I'd consider it a good start. The overall results look bad, but that's more indicative of the situation than of the way Sean pitched. He looked real sharp out there in innings 2-4. Like Mr. Gallagher said, he was nervous in the first (I'm pretty sure I'd be a little nervous too in my first ever ML start) and calmed down in the 2nd. He pitched great in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th innings and it was apparent he lost gas in the 5th. As many people have stated this is almost exclusively due to being in the BP the past 2 weeks, not throwing much since being called up, and learning that he was getting the start only an hour or two before he had to get on the bump. I was very impressed with what he was able to do through 4 against one of the best offenses in the league. All that said, I wouldn't get too excited about the amount of Ks. It was nice to see, but it was against the D-Backs, who have a lot of hitters that strike out a lot. In fact, I'm pretty sure I can strike out Mark Reynolds. Everything considered, it was a very encouraging start and I'm excited to see his start on Friday. I hope he pitches well and can stick in the rotation as the 5th starter. Congrats to Sean, Mr. Gallagher, and the rest of his family. They should be very proud of their son, and it sounds like he's a good kid. As others have stated, we all really appreciate you sharing your experiences, Mr. Gallagher. It's really cool to see the stuff behind the scenes and hear Sean's true reactions to the game. He should be proud of himself.
