  1. Which Gary Matthews Jr. will people see next year? Defensively he is great, but offensively will it be a continuation of what he is doing this year or will he revert back to what he was in previous years? I'm afraid he's just in the middle of a career year and I doubt this will continue. I'd guess he's really a .330-.340 OBP and a .460-.470 SLG. That's around a .800 OPS. Not too bad for a CF that also plays great defense. So depending on what the contract would look like, I'd consider it if I was Hendry.
  2. I'm not trying to make anyone agree with my opinion or anything like that. I really don't care if you like them or not. Just reading through this thread, it seemed a lot of people hate them based mainly on their fanbase and not on their music. I also have many friends who are that way. Obviously there are a ton of people who have heard a good amount of their music and it just isn't their taste.
  3. Or maybe they've listened to plenty of the music and have formed their own opinion. Which is why I said not all people are like that.
  4. Absolutely. They are a live band. The studio recordings take away everything great about the band and are only a shell of what the band is. I'd be curious to know how many of the people that have voted for the Pumpkins have actually seen DMB live and/or know that there is so much beyond the surface of their radio hits. Seems like lots of people here dislike DMB based on their opinion of other people that are fans of the band instead of making up their mind after actually listening to them theirselves. I can repsect different tastes in music but to vehemently hate DMB is just unbelieveable to me. I mean, I don't like Crash (Into Me) that much but I am aware that it isn't their only song! Too each their own though. 8) I think it's quite snobbish of you to insinuate that those who voted for the Pumpkins just aren't informed enough about DMB's greatness. I've listened to a ton of DMB at one time or another. I've never seen them live, but I haven't seen 90% of the bands in this poll live. Well, probably more than that actually. I find this kind of attitude in a lot of DMB die hards. I've got a couple friends that are incredulous when you turn down a chance to see them in concert or don't participate in a proverbial circle jerk when discussing the band. I think they've made some nice music. They aren't anywhere close to a rock band, however, and they aren't the greatest band in the world. They have a fantastic effect on the young ladies and are a perfectly suitable band to listen to on a camping trip or bonfire of some sorts. I like SP better. I agree it's a little out there to suggest you need to have seen a band live before you have the right to dislike them... I don't think he really meant it that way. I think he's just saying that a lot of people don't ever give DMB a chance because they are turned off by their fanbase. I completely agree with that. Obviously not all people are like that (and not all that voted for SP) but a lot are. I have plenty of friends who rip on Dave Matthews and have never heard a song other than Crash or Where Are You Going or some other radio pop song. Also, they're not as good of a studio band. A lot of their greatness comes from their improv at live shows. That's why he said you should see them live. Obviously if you don't like their music, you wouldn't go to a concert, but I just find there are too many people that dislike them for no apparent reason other than to be rebels against "those college frat guys that use it to get in girls pants"
  5. Although it doesn't matter AT ALL, I think Houston can say they were the second best team. I don't think they were, but they were the first runner up for the world series. But like Vance said, whats the point of arguing over who is SECOND best.
  6. I bet he'll get at least one and maybe 2 out of those guys. My guess would be Carlos Lee and one of the pitchers. I could also see him getting Mulder instead of Zito/Schmidt, which would not be good.
  7. Assuming Maddux was to agree to a trade then maybe a team would be willing to pay rather heavily for Maddux. 1. Post season experience. 2. Proven winner 3. A name that fans know and would embrace (i.e. appeasing the fans) GMs have paid for these type of guys in the past. Pierre....I honestly have no idea if other GMs value him or not. I'm sure there's a market for both Pierre and Maddux. Pierre has gotten his average up (his OBP and OPS still suck) and he has a lot of stolen bases. I'm sure there are quite a few GMs who are dumb enough to want Pierre. You probably won't get all that much for Nevin though. Maybe a halfway decent prospect if you're lucky, but nothing much.
  8. Why didn't he play tonight? Thanks for the info. I figured it was like that, but the highlights just had DNP (Coach's decision) next to Sefo's name with no explanation.
  9. That is for sure my wallpaper till I get sick of it.
  10. I sent him a PM to let him know, but I guess he never got it...oh well
  11. I had Roy targeted for my third pick, I was really surprised to see him go that early, though he should be a strong wideout this year. I think I went a little early on him, but I didn't think he'd make it back to me and I really wanted him. He wouldn't have. I would have grabbed him if he had been there at my pick. Well that makes me feel better about it.
  12. I love the violin. Boyd Tinsley is great. The sax isn't too overpowering or anything and I enjoy how it blends in. I really like Some Devil a lot though. It's a lot of slower music, but it's good if I'm in that kind of mood. I think DMB is a lot better live than studio. As previously mentioned, give the Live at Luther College CD a listen. You shouldn't be disappointed.
  13. I had Roy targeted for my third pick, I was really surprised to see him go that early, though he should be a strong wideout this year. I think I went a little early on him, but I didn't think he'd make it back to me and I really wanted him.
  14. You use real MLB and minor league players, correct?
  15. I wish I woulda gone with Bush instead of Roy Williams. But it was early in the morning and I wanted to get my pick in before I left for work so I think I rushed that choice a little too much. Oh well, I expect RW to have a big season with Mike Martz in town.
  16. I was going to say pretty much the same thing. DMB got to be so huge and so affiliated with the "frat boy music" label that many people not already into them turned against them. I admit that while I am a big DMB fan, it is not any fun to go to a concert and sit in the lawn with a bunch of people that are 90% there for the party and 10% there for the music. DMB gets my vote, although Mayonnaise by SP is probably on my Top Ten list of favorite songs ever. Although I think that's an overstatement and a lot are there for both, that's one reason why I don't sit in the lawn when I go. I find that a lot of Dave Matthews fans are as loyal and hardcore as they come. One of my friends has been to NY, St. Louis, Colorado, Boston, NC just to see DMB. I'm pretty insane about going (already been to 4 shows this summer) but not as bad as him.
  17. DMB is one of my favorite bands. I think there's a certain auora about them that most people hate and therefore never can get into them. Also, there's the people who have only heard the pop songs on the radio (Crash, Where are you going, American Baby, etc...) and base their opinion of DMB on that. I find their music very original and I love listening to it. His more recent stuff is not to my taste as much (most of the Everday and Stand Up albums) but his live shows are still amazing. He also has great opening bands like Matisyahu, OAR, Robert Randolph, Umphrey's McGee, Jurassic 5, Victor Wooten.
  18. Burrell and Abreu are just about equally bad in the OF. Now I know Abreu is likely overrated, but he did win a GG last year. I know he didn't really deserve it, but he's not nearly as bad defensively as Burrell.
  19. Good to hear. I'm not too worried about a rookie having poor shot selection at times and being inconsistent with his shot. He hasn't even been playing basketball that long so hopefully he'll improve a lot in those areas. Nice to hear that he took the ball to the hoop a lot and got to the line.
  20. Why didn't he play tonight?
  21. I don't really see what people see in Lane. Yeah, he's been walked quite a bit this year, but its not like he's been doing that over his career. He's almost 30 years old so I don't see him improving too much. He's a decent option for a 4th outfielder, but not someone I'd want starting for me.
