  1. Oh yeah...and you can say all you want about Ramirez's poor start, but he's going to finish the year with an OPS around .850, 30+ HR, and 100 RBIs for a team that'll finish 30+ games below .500. I think we have bigger problems than Aramis underperforming for a couple months.
  2. Wow...some people just don't get it. Aramis is a good ballplayer. You weren't at the interview so you don't know what questions were asked. Sure those quotes make him appear conceited, but again, if you show the questions that were possibly asked (as previous posters have) it seems like a normal interview. Besides, even if he was conceited, he's still one of the best hitters we have on this team. So what that he couldn't lead this team by himself when Lee was injured. There isn't one player in this league that could lead this team. This is a non-issue. Of course though the Cubs will turn it into a problem, blow it way out of proportion, diminish all of Ramirez's value, and then trade him to the Orioles.
  3. me neither. please don't be stupid and run him out of town. (unless you trade him for arod)
  4. I don't know if the 2005 workload is coming back to haunt the Sox. I just think they were never really that great of pitchers. Garland had a career year, Contreras has been surprisingly good, Garcia was way overrated, Vazquez has had one good year and was the stupidest move the Sox could have made, and Buehrle is a work horse but pretty mediocre. Pretty much a bunch of good #3 or #4 starters, but no ace. I do agree that the Twins will pass the Sox even without Soriano.
  5. Also still need 4 more teams.
  6. your absolutly right... I made a mistake here is what i meant to say Here is what I want to see happen I want to see them shut Prior down for the rest of the year.. and then call up Hill or Guzman then I want them to trade Williamson for some minor league prostpects and call up Hill. Then have a semi-6 man rotation the rest of the season: Zambrano Maddux Marmol Marshal Hill/Guzman (give each one every other 5th start and use them in the bull pen in between starts) or even better stick to a 5 man rotation, dont shut Prior down and go with this: Zambrano Maddux Marmol Marshal Prior/Hill/Guzman (give each one every third start and use them in the bull pen in between starts) At least you think Dusty doesn't belong in Chicago...
  7. I really don't think the Braves absolutely love Betemit. If they did, I don't see why they would have traded for Renteria in the offseason. If they loved Betemit, they could have kept their top prospect and played Betemit at short. I think Maddux and a mid-level prospect would get it done. Besides, I'd probably give up Marshall for Betemit. Marshall is a #3 starter at best. Betemit can play every infield position and put up solid offensive numbers.
  8. I would really love to see a Maddux, any one of our relievers, and Scott Moore for Betemit and a prospect. I'm not sure how Betemit would be defensively at SS, but I'd like him to play there with Ronny at 2B until we know for sure what happens with ARam. his .360 obp and .800+ OPS would look good at SS or 2B
  9. Nice. I tried very hard to get Carlos Lee. Offered D Lee, good OF replacement in Brad Hawpe, and a good closer in Saito. Another offer I made was D Lee and Verlander. Both rejected.
  10. Do you guys agree that Veal is a better prospect than Gallagher? I asked the question on BA: I don't know though. I'd probably have Gallagher over Veal. Gallagher is younger and already has reached West Tenn. I don't think Veal is far behind, but I just don't see the evidence to choose Veal over Gallagher.
  11. So pretty much Sosa and Santo have similar career numbers, and similar peaks, but Santo played a much tougher position, better defense, and in a much tougher ERA to hit. I know there's no proof that Sosa took steroids, but come on. He also got caught cheating when he corked his bat (whether or not it helps is irrelevant). He was also a jerk (based on my own personal experiences) and disliked by many teammates. I find it amazing that some people are surprised he isn't on the list. Yeah, he was the face of the Cubs for a good amount of time, but when you take everything into consideration there's no way I see him as a top 5 Cubs player of all time.
  12. Abreu on the Mets would be sick. Delgado, Wright, Reyes, Abreu, Beltran...not bad.
  13. Plus their pitching with Broxton, Elbert, Billingsley. I'd also rank Blake De Witt miles ahead of Delwyn Young.
  14. He'd probably say no.
  15. I'd love to see a trade for WM Pena. I think one of our relievers and a decent prospect would get it done. I'd also love to see a trade for Betemit. Once again, I think one of our relievers and a decent prospect would get it done.
  16. Living in St, Louis and watching the Braves pound the Cardinals the last 2 days (at least there is some small enjoyment for me this baseball season), I was thinking that Betemit would be a great guy to get who could be available. Atlanta doesn't have anywhere to put him right now, but he can play 2B, 3B or SS and their bullpen is a shambles. They had a huge lead last night and left Hudson in longer than necessary because of it. I think Williamson plus a prospect might get it done with the price of relief pitching apparently what it is. I'm less enamored with Pena, and Boston gave up a solid starting pitcher to get him. I think the player cost may be more than it's worth. I'd hardly call a pitcher with an ERA at 4.51 and a 1.30 WHIP "solid". Yes, this year he has been great and "solid" but they traded Arroyo when he had those previously mentioned stats and was not "solid". Nobody expected him to have a year like this at age 29. I also don't think it will last, but that's just my personal opinion.
  17. Seriously...this just shows how pathetic our coaching staff is. When the number one reason (and only reason) to keep a guy around is to teach the younger guys, you need to change your coaching staff. Pathetic....
  18. Hahaha. You.
  19. I would agree with O_O that this year has been different. Many more empty seats around the park and many more fans of the opposition. I would guess this has to do with the fact that we have been out of the playoff picture for the past couple months and in years past the Cubs at least waited till August or Septemember to crush our hopes. That said, I sold a bunch of my tickets this year and even passed up front row tickets because I didn't feel like paying close to $120 for a pair of tickets to watch these guys. I still watch them when they are on and I'm home, but I don't find myself doing whatever it takes to get out of other commitments to watch Cubs baseball like I have the past few summers. Kind of depressing and really ruins my favorite part of summer.
  20. He's definitely on the block. I could see him winding up with the Yanks.
  21. There's still 11 days left. I think it'll start getting pretty heated over the weekend. Plus, there have a good amount of names thrown around (Abreu, Burrell, Maddux, Williamson, Soriano, Livan Hernandez, Dontrelle, Walker, Westbrook, etc.) altough most are just "Team A shows interest in Player B".
  22. Yeah, he's pretty solid. I think I'm going to take him and either DeJesus or Hawpe. I'll probably pick which to start based on matchups.
  23. R H 1B 2B 3B HR RBI SB BB K TB E OPS Those are the categories. I have Martinez at C, Morneau at 1B, Young at SS, Aramis at 3B, Ordonez at one OF spot, Hafner at Util, and DLee on my bench. I've been trying to trade DLee for an upgrade at OF, but haven't had any success.
  24. Pick 2 of the following for OF: Hawpe, DeJesus, Juan Rivera, Ethier, Nady, Kubel Pick 1 of the following 2B: Cuddyer, Kendrick, Jose Lopez
