  1. This was the guy who was supposed to anchor the Pirates young pitching staff along with Maholm, Snell, and Duke, and now 2 years in a row, he finds himself in the minors. They seem to be losing patience with him fast. Maybe he needs a change of scenery ala Rich Hill. I propose the Pirates send him to The Nationals for Josh Willingham, who doesnt seem to have a starting spot on the team, and would strat the season as a 4th outfielder. The Nats need pitching, the Bucs need offense, so it's a match.
  2. http://mlb.mlb.com/images/players/mugshot/ph_150404.jpg Looks like Teddys first known attempt at a smile didnt quite work out. maybe next year.
  3. If we are going to add a backup infielder, Id prefer someone who has had some level of success at the big league level, so If prefer Koskie over German or Rivas.
  4. That thread would have been epic. Probably locked a while ago do to numerous personal arguements and meltdowns.
  5. I cant even imagine the boardsplosion that would have ensued had this been a real game. Oh well, I get the feeling that Ascanios ticket to minor league camp is being punched as we speak.
  6. After today, I have a feeling Ascanio will be joining them.
  7. Wasnt it a few days ago that he was about to decide between the Rockies, A's and one of the other california NL teams? Someone will surely take out a flyer on Shawn Hill.
  8. Hopefully not before we trade Kosuke for Grady Sizemore.
  9. That's not exactly hard to predict. Very few players have Soto-like breakouts. But he wouldn't have to have a Soto-like breakout to actually have value and prove worthy of a major league job someday. Soto didnt breakout until 2007. Before that, he was pretty mediocre offensively. he was a mid .700 OPSer at best before then.
  10. Looks like German and Koskie made Rivas irrelevant.
  11. First Pudge, now Pedro. Whose next on their list? Edmonds? Schilling? Sosa?
  12. These are basically guys who are having good spring trainings. Granted, most of these guys probably dont have a roster spot, but could be viable options in the case of injury Wellington Castillo .333/.455/1.000/1.455-unfortunately for him, Paul Bako and Koyie Hill exist Brad Snyder .300/.417/.700/1.117-I remember being terrified that he was "the left handed bat" when first aquired. Jake Fox .316/.381/.579/.960-much like Josh Kroeger, it will likely take another team for him to ever get a shot at the majors So Taguchi .273/.407/.409/.816-eh, better than I expected Pitchers David Patton-1.42 ERA 0.75WHIP 6.2IP-of the bunch, he has the best shot at making the team, especially if Guzman, Samardzia, and Vizcaino continue to stink up Arizona Jason Waddell-1.13 ERA 1.38 WHIP 8IP-not bad for a 28 year old former Giants farm hand who never made it past AA. Justin Berg-1.42ERA 1.26IP 6.1IP-probably spend the season in Iowa Randy Wells-0.00 ERA .23 WHIP in just 3.1IP-was pretty impressive in his short time on the team in September
  13. Why did the Cubs want Edmonds, when we had Pie?
  14. I know this isnt the Cubs, but I didnt even realise that Dopirek was still around. Wasnt he a 2B with us?
  15. When did they have someone as good as Dobbs? Was last year that long ago? Last year they also had a good bench in case you were kidnapped by the Taliban and missed it. Mike Fontenot and Reed Johnson were both very great off the bench last year, and Ward/Hofpauir, Blanco, and Cedeno rounded out one of the more solid benches in the league. Miles, Gathright, Hoffpauir(hopefully), and Johnson/Fukudome will be a better bench than a lot of people think. Granted Bako will be a waste of space aside from the 1 day a week he catches. We wont have the power we did last year, but it will be better than a lot of teams have. No, that bench still doesn't look like it's any good. I feel like you're almost just throwing out random names. Let me try. "McKinley, Roosevelt, Harding, Coolidge, Taft, Hoover, now there's a bench with some depth and versatility." Roosevelt was in a wheel chair. Coolidge couldnt lay off the high heat, and Taft had a career OPS <.700. Bad comparison. Hoover had some good years in the Senators/Twins organization though before he started having achilles problems.
  16. Pattons been pretty damn good thus far. If he can keep it up, it will be a shame if we let him go because we feel obligated to keep Guzman and Vizcaino around because of their situations.

  18. If Koskie healthy, he'd be the guy. At least he has had some level of success at the major league level.
  19. because you can never have too many bad middle infielders. well, I guess you can but dont tell Hendry.
  20. Luis Vizcaino seems to have the overpaid, over the hill reliever who comes in and blows the lead in the late innings job nailed down.
  21. Makes one wonder if David patton has any shot. Lou seems to like him, and Lou hates all pitchers.
  22. I suppose that if Miles were a much better baseball player Id have to agree with that statement. I mean they're both white. They both play 2B. They've both played for the Cubs at one point in their career. So yes, Aaron Miles and Mark DeRosa ARE the same player.
  23. Im slowly but surely becoming sold on Gathright. If he can just keep doing what hes doing, he would be a prototypical leadoff hitter, and Soriano could finally go to the heart of the lineup. Of course then theres the matter of "leadoff isnt a position", and what to do about Kosuke and Johnson
  24. Too bad. It seems like the guy can play every position, just very poorly.
