  1. We'd probably still have people saying this isn't the year and wasn't supposed to be. Only stupid ones. And they're stupid anyway.
  2. [tweet]@MLBStartLine: Yes, questionable for a single game rarely goes long term. Kris should be back by tues or wed, if he even misses tomorrow.[/tweet] Please be credible, MLBStartLine
  3. Even the Brewers are worried about KB. Or maybe they're just bad. Or both.
  4. [tweet]@MLBStartLine: Injury: Kris Bryant (Head/neck), Questionable for Aug. 3 at Pittsburgh #GoCubs http://t.co/wBJjIQlJZh #MLBInjury[/tweet] This from 10 minutes ago. I don't know how credible this account is, but I figure that 'questionable for August 3' suggests not super serious.
  5. Zimmer was the first manager that I actively remember. Not that he was any good though. Mine was Jim Frey. And I guess I'm old.
  6. If the Cubs want to have their playoff chances blown like that, they can do it themsleves.
  7. He's still taking his walks and providing pop. Not that Olt/Baez can't do the same, but... It would suck. Who knows, maybe Olt can come up and do his best Bryan LaHair impression while Bryant gets a few weeks off. I'd just like to know sooner than later if the situation calls for any long term panic.
  8. Did anyone else know that Delmon Young's been a free agent since July 9? Could be a useful bat off the bench, no?
  9. This is true. The trouble is that we currently have 3 of these (Bryant, Soler, Russell) plus one in Schwarber that hasn't yet been adjusted to and another young player in Castro who seems to have forgotten how to play baseball altogether. And when you're in a playoff race, that makes things very complicated. This being said, in this stage of the Cubs' rebuild, giving all of these guys the experience and exposure to big league pitching takes precedent over the the Wild Card. And if it all pays off in the form of a murderers row consisting of Bryant. And Rizzo. And Schwarber. And Russell. And Soler. AND/OR Baez/Castro at their potential, I don't think that anybody is going to look back and gripe about the year we finished 3rd and just fell short of the Wild Card.
  10. Yes, by OPSing under .600 this season, he's definitely done that. Yes, everyone knows he's had a terrible season. Talking about DFAing or releasing him at this point is dumb. Incredibly. At this point, they may as well just DL him, call up Javy, and send him back in for repairs in the offseason. Because that's something you can just do with no repercussions. Is it? Because who the hell knows, assuming the player is down with it. As I recall, a few years back when Zack Greinke came out with his social anxiety disorder, and suddenly underpermforming players such as Dontrelle Willis and Milton Bradley were coming out of the woodwork saying "oh yeah, I have that too," there was debate (I believe S.I.) over whether or not a seperate DL for "mental breaks" should be a thing. Maybe it should be.
  11. Now that the let down has worn off, Haren is exactly what we needed, and we gave up nothing we'll ever miss or even remember. He's the 5th starter we've been in need of ever since Wood lost his spot (a move that IMHO was a hasty one.) And I have a feeling that later this afternoon, we're all going to appreciate him that much more.
  12. I would take Utley for more disposable Rule 5 eligibles and prorated league minimum. I know that a lot of people scoff at the idea of a experience alone bringing value to the playoffs or a playoff chase, but then again, a lot of people value it. So with the roster expansion around the corner, I'd give him a spot, even if it means that our September roster features 24 relievers instead of 25. But the idea of salary dumping Castro is nothing short of ludicrous.
  13. W. Now if the Rangers can nurse a 1 run lead for another 3 innings, we're tied for the quasi-playoffs.
  14. Iowa's dropping an 11 run/13 hit assault and it's only the bottom of the 3rd. Mostly singles other than Javy's 2B (2-3, 3 RBI) a pair of 2B by Silva and a rare Andreoli-Bomb. The quietly relevant Villanueva is 3-3 and the kinda-sorta relevant Olt is 2-2 with a BB.

  16. On Fanfraphs, Castro is dead last in WAR (-1.1) among 159 qualifying position players. But for what it's worth, hes not in awful company with Han-Ram, Avisail Garcia, Nick Castellanos, and Sandoval joining him in the bottom 5.
  17. With the addition of Hunter, I think we have 8 relievers on the roster, one of whom is Yeorvis Medina. So there's the answer. And when Montero comes back. Teagarden can be DFAd or develope an injury until September.
  18. Should have traded him for Ian Kennedy when we had the chance.
  19. Garza'a going to suddenly think he's good again, isn't he? Just don't pitch to Affliction and we should be Ok anyway.
  20. what I refuse to believe this Yeah, me too, that would be stupid. Castro is not likely to be worth something like Kimbrel ever again. I wouldn't say that. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if in 2 years time, Kimbrel's arm is held together by Duct tape and thumb tacks, and we're baffled at the thought that we were once seriously talking about trading Castro for him.
  21. what I refuse to believe this Yeah, me too, that would be stupid. Castro is not likely to be worth something like Kimbrel ever again. Depends what they mean by wanted Castro in the deal. Because if it means they wanted Baez and Castro or even McKinney and Castro, I can very much believe it.
  22. It doesn't matter who's on the mound. Why? Because #wearegooduntilwearebadagain
  23. Morse was traded to the Pirates for Tabata. Moss was traded to the Cardinals. jfc get yourself together, SCS. You're a bigger [expletive] mess than usual. Like an 8 year old discovering pixie sticks for the first time, the highs and lows of the trade deadline made my brain its bitch.
  24. Looks like somebody threw away a perfectly good Vance Worley. White people. Amiright. Please tell me that is not a Mike Morse? That was one of the hottest items a few Christmas' ago. Probably just needs some new batteries. Oh, and is that a Brandon Beachy? I bet with a little bit of tape and a whole lot of Bosio, it'll be good as new. If anyone's willing to move that decomposing raccoon, there's a Brandon Moss under it. And check out that Jeff Baker. I used to have one just like it when I was a kid. Only it didn't reek quite as much of fish and stale cottage cheese. Quick, somebody tackle that vagrant before he runs off with Bud Norris!
