  1. I don't know how I feel about this I really hope this rain stops tomorrow. It would be a shame if this one didn't end up postponed.
  2. Pretty low key too. I think it's somewhere in the minors forum, but it's a fairly big deal in terms of reclamations. I had no idea that he was only 27 and that he was a Top 15 prospect. I know he had some good years, but I thought he was a smoke and mirrors type. Think Bosio could work some magic there?
  3. In this case, I'm thinking it's more that Utley doesn't wanna go anywhere. Wife and kids settled where they are...getting toward the end of his career. May just be happy to stay there. Yeah, but it's 1.5-(hopefully) 2months, and he spends half the time on the road anyway. It would hardly call for a relocation. And he's going to retire a 37 year old millionaire, so wherever he chooses to settle, he'll have plenty of time to enjoy it. But that's just my perspective,
  4. I remember back in Junior High, there was an error card of a player whose birth year was listed as 1981. This was around 1990, and the thought of a pro-athlete younger than me was ludicrous. Now I'm running out of players younger than myself. I know it sounds random and OT, but it came to mind, since I consider Utley to be older than dirt, yet he's 2 years younger than I.
  5. Someone's got to tell me, is there anything to PJ Higgins? I know that at 22, he's like the David Wooderson of the AZL. But being a 2015 pick, there should be some kind of mulligan there. Maybe a Ryan Theriot?
  6. i just had an ismael valdes flashback which reminded me that we had ismael valdes once Which reminded me that we have CJ Edwards.
  7. The obvious answer. And I know this is a bit OT, but it did get me thinking how the big names of the Great Internarional Free Agent Splurge of 2013 stack up against the recommended slot bonuses for MLB Draft Picks: At 2.8MM, Eloy Jimenez got roughly the equivalent of a mid 1st Round Pick. Gleybar Torres (1.7MM) and Jen Ho Tseng (1.625MM) each got that of a late 1st Round/ Supplemental rounder. Frandy DeLarosa (700K) Erling Moreno (750K) and Jefferson Mejia ($850K) got roughly 3rd round $.
  8. I think they pay him a prorated league minimum.
  9. http://english.yonhapnews.co.kr/news/2015/08/17/0200000000AEN20150817006200315.html?input=www.tweeter.com How come he doesn't want to be like Nick Markakis? Or Jason Heyward? Or Carlos Gomez? Or Nori Aoki? Racist.
  10. Hard to pick and choose who to follow in terms of DSL/VSL; from what I hear, and maybe I'm wrong, the skill level is not much better than college, in that for every guy who even makes it to the next level, there's 20-25 who are done after 2-3 years. At least in terms of guys who weren't top IFA prospects. And for themto warrant anything resembling mainstream attention, they have to be something special at an early age IE Castro, Candelerio, Daury Torrez. In terms of DSL/VSL guys, Carlos Rodriguez is the one I've followed the closest. He seems to be doing decent in his second shot at the AZL, though his numbers are somewhat skewed from a 2 IP/10ER stomping on June 28. Yeiler Peguero's my latest. 17 yo switch hitting SS with more BBs than K's.
  11. Araujo's been around since 2011-3 years DSL, 1 ASL and he's always had a lot of K's, not a ton of walks. Love his numbers throughout his career. If you find anything regarding his stuff and what not, I'd love it.
  12. Silva was given a $1MM bonus as an IFA in 2010, I think as a 2B, before big IFA bonuses were a thing, at least for us. So they must have thought fairly highly of him. But that was 2010. And while his career .282/.429 BA/SLG aren't awful, his .305 OBP is.
  13. And FWIW, I'd offer any 3 of non-roster worthy, Rule 5 eligibles for Utley's bones.
  14. lool oh phil When on earth, on my darkest, drunkest day would I have suggested a thing like that? I've been known to offer laughably low value big league packages. But that's when we're talking a player we could live without as easily as with, and if we can get them for next to nothing, why not. I've been known to suggestlaughably high prospect packages, but that's when the prospect(s) are for all practical purposes blocked, and we may as well cash them in while we can. But never two serviceable big league players for a 36 year old rental who would be more luxury than necessity.
  15. i mean it's frustrating watching other people celebrate while you're miserable when i'm at a game and there are opposing fans around me and something bad happens and those people jump up and start clapping and cheering? urge to kill rising doesn't mean i think they shouldn't be cheering or something, though Here's my thing; pitchers, especially closers have the right to hop around, do a happy dance, or whatever it is that Brian Wilson used to do when they get a big out or secure a win. But if a hitter hits a home run and does anything other than trotting the bases with his head hung like a scolded dog, he's an unprofessional hot dog.
  16. Pretty happy my opponent this week started him. Gave me a lot of leeway for today and tomorrow. Holy [expletive], 10 ER in 2.1 IP? Has he ever given up 10 ER in a month?
  17. After today, his ERA's down to 2.99. In his past 10 starts, he has a 1.99 ERA/1.01 WHiP 11/41 BB/K in 54 IP.
  18. I was following the tail end of this via Gameday, so I missed this fist pump. Didn't get how it got as much attention as it did. But now that I've seen it, if I were a Sox fan, I'd be hating that [expletive] out of him and asking how that kind of conduct has no place in professional sports. But I'm not, so it's a thing of beauty. Jose Valverde would be proud and ashamed all at once. [bbvideo=560,315]https://www.facebook.com/BleacherNation/videos/10154223026868902/[/bbvideo]
  19. Random Prospect Report: 2015 12 rounds PJ Higgins is tearing through the AZL to the tune of .324/.361/.559 with 2 HR though 17 games. Might be worth seeing what he can do against kids his own age. 22 yo DSL mainstay Pedro Araujo, has a 1.07 WHiP with 6/52 BB/K through 37IP at Eugene.
  20. They showed that with Veres. Though not as much money, they wasted no time taking a $4sometbingMM bath. Such is the risk of a guaranteed contract. You do what you can to make a trade, but if nobody bites and you value the roster spot more than the player, it is what it is.
  21. It's been a week now since Zagunis was pulled following a HBP and he hasn't played since. Not on the DL though.
  22. Seems as though ever since Almora caught fire, Baez fizzled. Past 10: .184/.256/.395 4BB 9K
  23. Not sure why anyone would even pitch to Braun with this ghost of a shell of a Brew Crew. But to each his own.
  24. And they're playing the Giants this weekend. Truthfully, I'd rather the Giants sweep the Nats, as I'd be more comfortable being chased by the Giants.
