  1. Now that this is over with, may the 2009-2010 Jim Hendry Circus begin!
  2. Knowing this, Id feel much more comfortable aquiring an established starter, and if the Braves woukd take Bradley, Id love to find a way to work out a deal for Lowe or Vazquez. Otherwise, a rotation of Z, Demp. Wells, and 2 or Gorz/Shark/Marshall does not sit well with me, even for a short time.
  3. I know its a small sample size, but I cant help but notice that Donnie Veal is lighting up the AFL with a .71 ERA/.71 WHIP and 12 Ks in 12+IP
  4. I proposed a deal for Vazquez (page 9) on Saturday: The Braves need bats and maybe Bobby Cox could control Bradley. Other posters shot down the proposal, but if Bradley behaved I don't think the offer would be too far off. I suppose the quality of the prospect might be the sticking point. It all depends on who the prospect(s) is. While I do like the idea, we want to have a few trade chips left if we really want to get the RBI producer we also need. Hawpe would be great, but then again, Hawpe to Atlanta for Lowe or Vazquez makes perfect sense as well.
  5. Now that the Braves are closing in on a Tim Hudson extension, they reportedly might tradea starter for a hitter. I know Lowe has been brought up as an option, but what about Javier Vazquez?
  6. I actually asked Dierkes on the MLBTR chat how far he thought Castro was from making Theriot trade bait, and he said about a year.
  7. So hes more like the asian Kaz Matsui. and I thought that trades couldnt be made until midnight after the end of the WS. Was this a waiver deal or something?
  8. Oh good, more offseason talk about acquiring Jeremy Hermida. That quote belongs to West Side Rooter. While Im not a big fan of Hermida, hes still young enough that maybe Jarmillo can help him finally reach his potential, plus hes one of those guys Hendry has had his eye on for a few years, and now that he'll probably be available for next to nothing, I can see Hendry making the move. If Bradley absilutely has to go, and we dont have what it takes to aquire someone like Holliday, Bay, or Hawpe, I guess Hermida is a low risk move that could potentially pay off, and if it doesnt, we can just rotate him, Fox, Hoffpauir, Fuld, and Colvin(whichever are on the team) through the outfield. Its not the best plan, but our hands are kind of tied after last offseasons debacle.
  9. Have past failures taught Hendry nothing? I have nothing against Grabow, but hes a 2 year 3-4 mil type of player. Especially when we have Marshall, Gorzo, and Gaub all as potential to take his place..
  10. I dont know how it will go down, but I have a very strong feeling that Hermida opens 2010 as our starting right fielder.
  11. He was outrighted to the O's AAA team, not DFAd, so hes still under their control.
  12. While this list is full of undesirebles, the one name that stands out that would be a perfect match is Lowe. The Braves have been looking for a righty bat for the outfield, and Bradley could match that need. Meanwhile, ground ball master Lowe would be great at Wrigley, and we could then be free to shop for Bradleys replacement, using Marshall, Gorzo, or Shark as bait.
  13. Poor Rich. I take it we wont be getting Adam Jones or Matt Wieters as the PTBNL in that deal. In other ex Cubs news, the Blue Jays DFAd Michael Barrett to make room for recently claimed Sean Henn.
  14. That is great news. Of course, what really matters is how he plans to make it the top priority. If the approach is the right one, and he properly invests, it could have huge effects. Might take a few years to see the results, but I'm happy to hear it. Or is that just his way of saying that Hendry spent the team into the poorhouse and dont expect any free agents any time soon.
  15. Didnt think this needed its own thread, but Gerald Perry is in the running for the Rangers vacant hitting coach job. I really hope he gets it considering how Lou and Jim threw him under the bus for their own failures.
  16. While I agree, I dont think its us(the fans) who feel that way, its more that weve pretty much accepted than management feels that way and they want him out no matter what so we just want the best return possible, and Gary Jr. is far, far from that. I would disagree and say that the vast majority of Cubs fans want Bradley gone no matter what comes back in return. Yeah, I get that impression as well. I think its 50/50. I dont think theres anyone who wants to just ship him out, eat the contract and get nothing. Id really rather give him 1 more year, especially with Rudy J coming on board, I really wish theyd just give him one more chance to se what he can do with him. On the other hand, with Rudy supposedly being the Dave Duncan of hitting coaches, it would also be interesting to see what he could do with someone like Jeremy Hermida or Pat Burrell, neither of whom ever did reach their potential. As for Sarge Jr. not so much.
  17. http://espn.go.com/chicago/columns/blog/_/post/4602900/name/levine I suppose we could do worse than Burrell, but between him, Fox, and Hoffpauir, we'll have 3 DHs.
  18. Bobby Freaking Hill, man. I still miss him. Then stop by his work. Walmarts open 24/7
  19. He was on Iowas roster last year but injured much of the time.

  21. http://baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=9697 Heh, seems as if somebody else agrees with my opinion on Shark, besides Jersey. If by that you mean that Shark has no business in a major league rotation and it looks more and more like he never will, I doubt you'll have many people dissagreeing.
  22. Id rather have Bradley than the majority of the other options out there, but from what weve heard, thats not going to happen. Stop playing Xbox. Bradley sucks. If we were loking at Bay, Holliday, or hawpe as a replacement, then Id be all for it, but were not. Were looking at a downgrade or a break even at best unless Hendry can work the same magic he did when he landed Ramirez. You equate the Pirates basically forcing the Cubs to take Ramirez in order to get Lofton as Hendry working some sort of magic? I didnt even know thats how it weant down. Well Im glad they forced him on us, considering hes our best players and everyone else involved in the trade is long out of baseball.

  24. MLBTR has compiled a list of bad contracts whose teams would like to move them. Problem is, theres not a player on the list that would make us a better team with the possible exception of Carlos Lee, who wouldnt be traded to us anyway.
