My intrigue in Russ Canzler continues. .302/.386/.559/945 10 HR and he can play 1B, 3B, and a bit of outfield. Sounds like at worst he could be somewhere between Chad Tracy and Jake Fox. And who does Robinson Chirinos have to brutally murder to get the promotion to Iowa? .314/.403/.572/.975, and none of the Iowa catchers, nor the great Koyie Hill seem to be able to much with the bat. Id take Chirinos or Castillo over Koyie any day. I -
Looks like they went for a late inning comeback last night. Good for them. I know I checked out around the 6th or 7th inning, and I was only half watching and I had the last post, so that goes to show how much poeple give a [expletive] about this team.

Ive said this before, but if Aramis really does heat up even somewhat, looking at the very weak 2011 Free Agent class, I can almost guarantee that he opts out of the final year of his contract and probably ends up with a 3-4 yearcontractfor his troubles. Intriguing possibility. With him, Lee, and Lilly off the books, thats a lot of money to play with.

I wouldnt go that far. Between tonight, his last outing vs the Reds, or at least that 1 inning where he melted down horribly with 2 outs and the game vs. the Angels, hes had some brutal outings lately, but he has a good enough track record that a lot of teams will still be very interested in him, especially with Cliff Lee off the market.

On the plus side, it only took half the season, but Aramis finally broke the mendoza line, so theres that.

Salty has really dropped off since going to Texas. His top OPS in the majors since the trade is .716 and he's currently OPSing .753 in 211 PAs in AAA as a 25-year-old. Hypothetically, if they were to give him up for Nady, it would still be worth it, and maybe stick him in Iowa and try to convert him to 1B.

Perhaps to showcase his versatility for trade purposes? Of course Lilly is lowering his trade value by the pitch.... If only wed traded him after the almost no hitter.

That might actually be a good idea. Fontenot probably has much more value than Theriot right now and is far from a must-keep commodity for the Cubs. If there's more interest in Fontenot than Theriot, I'd definitely pursue the Fontenot interest and put Theriot on the backburner. With his struggles this year, Theriot probably won't be seen as a "fix" for a team with a hole. Because of that, I'd guess we'd probably do better shopping him hard again in the offseason. 2B and SS are positions were offense is often hard to come by, and Theriot will never have a high OBP or SLG, but his average alone could make him attractive to a team looking for a 8 or 9 hitter. He has no business hitting leadoff, but you could do a lot worse than Theriot at the bottom of the order. -
At this point, the games are merely how 2011s draft picks will be determined and players to build trade value. As far as following the 2010 Cubs, its all about the transaction front. If they want to win a few games here and there, good for them.

How about Saltalawhatshisface who I was almost sure theyd end up moving in the Lee deal. Too bad they arent interested in our Lee. I wonder what kind of prospects we could net from them if we ate the rest of his salary. They could use a 1B.

With all the Cliff Lee and Ted Lilly talk, this little gem was missed Why? because theres the Yankees and thats what they do.

They were talking about it on WSCR and saying that this is a rare, serious injury and an even rarer surgery and theres a chance he may never pitch again, and if he does, he'll never be the same.

When your names Schlitter, youve probably gotten a lot of Schlit all through childhood and the teen years, so I can see how a guy could become a dick.

The only scenrio in which Id want to re sigh Lilly is if we were able to trade Z to a team dumb enough to pick up a decent portion of his salary. If we dont trade Lilly, if ever there was a year to offer him arb without him accepting it it would be 2011. I know he loves Chicago, but there is a very thin free agent class, and a lot of teams in need of starting pitching. Clif Lee is the big prize, but the teams that cant afford him or miss out on him will be turning to others, and Ted Lilly is one of the best of the bunch. There are high risk guys like Sheets, Webb, Bedard, and Duscherer out there that could yield high reward, but Lillys probably the safest bet out there for a team looking for a quality front of the rotation guy. Even at the age of 35, he may very well end up with a 3 year deal.

Dempster looks like hes about to have one of those nightmare innings that both he and Lilly had vs. the Reds.

Just as he was really pulling it together. I guess it didnt help that after narrowly escaping a DL stint a few weeks ago with fluid in his shoulder, the next day he threw something like 110 pitches.

Why the [expletive] cant we be somewhat excited about Colvin? Nobodys expecting the next Albert Pujols here. Colvin, Castro, and Soto are all great young players, they're great building blocks, but I dont see any of them as the cornerstones of the future if the Cubs are going to become serious contenders again. These are guys that should be great to have around for fairly cheap so that you can go out and build them around 1 or 2 top of the line guys of the Adrian Gonzalez or Prince Fielder like. What the Cubs truely lack are 3-4 type hitters, and if we got those Castro could be a 2 hitter and Colvin and Soto should end up as very solid 5 and 7 guys with Soriano batting 6th.

Van Dam, that little comment was taken entirely to seriusly. I think very highly of Jackson, and hope he becomes what Patterson and Pie were supposed to. As for Vitters, yeah, hes having a rough go of it now, but his first 3-4 pro years shoudl be viewed as his college years. If hes still struggling by the time hes 23-24, then we'll start talking bust. I just hope the organization is so patient before hes wearing the orange and black. -

Not saying it would work out this way, but if they traded Byrd wouldn't be better to put Kosuke in CF and Colvin in RF? Even when hes not hitting, in RF, Kosuke proves his worth as a defensive specialist, however, in CF hes average at best.
