  1. DAMMIT I thought wed ge to se more Koyie Hill.
  2. Bud Norris and the Astros, huh. well good for them. If Lous intention by sending out this dreadful lineup ws to showcase Nady, Fuku, and Baker as trade chips, it failed big time.
  3. FanGraphs was a big fan of his 2007-2009 years. Given his numbers, previous production, and the fact that he'll be 35 for a good chunk of next season makes me think he'd be worth a 2-3 year deal in the offseason. The 6 month period from May 2008 through April 2009 makes this season the second full season's worth of play (assuming he keeps playing like this) where he was a big disappointment. He seems to be a lot like a Vladdy type who is going to get a 1 year prove it contract. If the season ended today, D Lee would probably be looking at a 1 year deal in the 5-8 mil range. The fact of the matter is, much like Jermaine Dye before him he chose the wrong year to have the worst year of his career. Even if he does heat up, teams with money and the need for a 1B would probably be more inclined to wait another year for Adrian Gonzalez, Prince Fielder, and maybe Albert Pujols to become available. Derrek needs to waive that NTC to go to the contender if he wants a shot at a better deal. Maybe he doesnt view the Angels as contenders at this point, but the Cubs simply arent the place he should be right now.
  4. Hopefully it was one of those outings where he was just tuning up his stuff and the batters knew exactly what he was throwing and he wasnt trying fool them. hopefully. More than likely, he'll be back in the rotation when Ted Lilly is moved.
  5. right, but the cubs are pretty lousy too, which is why they lose to teams like the pirates and astros. The second half theyve been prety decent so far. Right now, were 9 games out I believe. Were 2-9 vs. the freaking Pirates. Even if that was 5-6, wed be 6 games back. Everyone beats the damn Pirates. Then give us at least 2 of the 3 games on the last home stand we should have won, the 1 vs. the Phils with the play at home and the 1 vs. the Stros where we had guys on 2nd with nobody out in the bottom of the 9th and 10th, and were 4 games out. I know throughout the baseball seaon our going to have those games where you look back and say damn, we should have won, but the Cubs have had an obscene amount of those this season.
  6. I hated Theriot at the 1 and 2 spot, but a lot of teams could do worse than Ryan Theriot at the 8 spot. This being said, we should get whatever we can for him because a Fontenot/Baker 2B platoon would be far more productive and call up Barney as a backup SS.
  7. Ive said it before, if the Cubs could have just gone .500 vs. the Pirates and Astros, wed be right in the race. These are the garbage teams that would be contenders are supposed to take advantage of.
  8. We did this last year, and I think it worked. With the deadline coming up, rather than starting a thread for every minor deal that happens, this would be a nice home for the smaller trades.
  9. Im cool with it. If we could get a healthy, productive Aramis, it could keep that ever so slight crack in our window open for next year, and its not like we have a better option, and even if we did sigh a Beltre or Cantu, wed be throwing similar money at them, and I doubt that they could give us what Aramis could at his best. Besides, maybe he can give us a monster contract year. Now if he does excercise it, then in 2012 theres also the mutual option which is for 16 mil with a 2 mil buyout.
  10. If Jeff Samardjza would just stop walking everything in sight, he might end up being a solid 3-4 starter. Otherwise, his major league ceiling is a poor mans Kyle Farnsworth.
  11. He just meant 1 of the 3. Its actually mixing trade rumors. the Nationals wanted Beckham plus(probably Hudson) for Dunn. I dont think that Floyd/Danks were ever on the table for Dunn. It was the Brewers who wanted Floyd or Danks for Prince Fielder. Besides, usually when they say "young pitching" their not talkning about guys like Floyd or Danks, more so Daniel Hudson or the White Sox equivelents of Chris Archer and Trey McNutt types if they have such a thing, and most farm systems have something similar. Either way, now that Peavys out, and Freddy Garcia is showing signs of coming back to earth, the Sox should think twice before trading any of their starting pitchers.
  12. I know its just Steve Stone, but I flipped on the Sox game for a moment, and he was saying that the Twins are looking to make a deal for Ted Lilly.
  13. So whats the over/under on runs given up by Silva this inning?
  14. I would very much like for Bobby Valentine to manage the Cubs.
  15. Not earth-shattering news, but I wonder if we could finagle Haren in some way - DLee + prospect(s) for Haren? If the prospects are named Castro, Cashner, and Jackson(take your pick), we might have a deal.
  16. I dont know who Rich Garces is, but Ill just assume hes a really fat guy with a really big head.
  17. Another blown extra inning, opportunity filled home game. This type of thing is why were 9 games out instead of 4-5. Speaking of reasons were 9 games out, time to face the Astros, who along with the Pirates seem to only show up to work vs. the Cubs.
  18. Wait, Lou really put in Schlitter vs. the heart of the Cardinal lineup in the 10th inning? aight.
  19. As the deadline approaches and, teams are in need of qulity starting pitching, espeically lefties, players who normally wouldnt be worth a blue chipper could very well land one. Besides, farm systems in baseball are full of guys who arent going to be stars but could be solid regulars. We have enough middle infield prsopects starting with Castro, and then Lee, Thomas, Lake, and Watkins. This Joseph guy doesnt seem like hed even be worht the comp picks wed get if Lilly is offered arbitration, which he should be if we keep him. No thanks.
  20. Oswalts really just being a huge pain in the ass. a few months ago, he goes public and requests a trade. Now hes giving them a short list of teams he will accept a trade too? Thats really not cool. At least when Peavy did that same thing, it was because the Pads wanted him out and he wanted to stay, so he had the ball in his court, but with Oswalt, when you were the one requesting a trade, you should take what you get. I can understand not wanting to go to the Royals or Orioles, but as far as contenders go, he should really be more accomadating.
  21. If theres such a thing as Baseball Gods, they really dont want the Tigers to contend.
  22. My bad, I often confuse Migs and Mags despite the fact thst Migs is much better at baseball. Apparently, Carlos Guillen also went down with a calf strain. Pretty brutal for a contender. Now that Mags 2011 option more than likely wont vest, maybe we could interest them in Kosuke and renew their interest in Theriot.
