  1. His purpose is to be expendable when Brett Jackson is ready. I wouldn't put it that way, but my guess is that they intended to trade Byrd all along and Johnson was to be a stop gap until Jackson was ready.
  2. Maybe he's not content rolling around in a pool of money. Some guys just want to play baseball. A lot of people, probably himself included thought that at age 31 Mark Prior would have a shelf full of Cy Young awards and a fist full of World Series rings. As long as teams are willing to consider him, there's no reason for him to call it quits.
  3. would assume wells back to iowa If it's anything else, there's no justice in the world.
  4. Where does it state love for LaHair as opposed to lack of love for the majority of NL 1st baseman? But yeah, LaHair is one of the few things that have made this team bearable, certainly more than waiting for Stewart and Sotos luck to change.
  5. The Cubs fans that vote know that a Bryan LaHair is something that has been hitting the hell out of the ball and carrying the Cubs offense along with Castro and don't always take defense into consideration.
  6. Remember Bryan LaHair will not be our starting 1st baseman? The folks that vote in mass know not of your laws of BaBIP.
  7. Aside from Votto, who is there? A lot of casual Cubs fans are very excited about our "young" first baseman. Remember 2008? Not the season, the All Star vote.
  8. That very moment may very well have signified the height of DeWitts trade value. Hopefully we can trade him in the next 10 minutes.
  9. Willie Harris is one of those guys who just keeps popping up no matter how marginally talented he is.
  10. That was because he could never find the strike zone and when he did the ball found the bleachers. You'll find that when bad players become good fans tend to like them more. Oh that's how it works? Damn. All these years.... The main exception of course is Ryan Theriot.
  11. If LaHair can keep this up for a bit longer, he should be the favorite to start the All Star Game. Joey Votto's the only guy who I could see standing in his way at this point. In fact, as sad as this Cubs team is, we could conceivably have 2 starters in the ASG, Castro being the other with Tulo as his main competiton.
  12. Plus he's showing Arroyo how to not wear long hair like an asshat. Arroyo looks like he calls everyone dude whereas Shark looks like he calls everyone bro. I'm not sure what that even means, but I stand by it.

  14. Yep. Started with Rodney Culver who died in the ValuJet crash in the FL Everglades in 1996. I think it's 1 plane crash, 2 car accidents, 2 heart attacks, and now 3 suicides. I thought it was 1 died, 1 survived, 2 divorced, 2 beheaded.
  15. We all know what's going to happen. A. Jake Peavy pitches a rare healthy, CY Young caliber season. B. Someone gives him a ridiculous contract C. By this time next year, doctors are figuring out how to re-attach his arm. Let's no be that someone. I don't fully trust Marcum or any pitcher who's spent time with the Oakland Athletics either.
  16. BRING BACK HENDRY I agree with Garza and Hamels. As for Dempster, I don't see him going as team friendly as you'd think. He's going to be 35 tomorrow, and a strong season could net him a 2/20 or even 2/24 contract. Sounds like a good price for him, but assuming we signed Hamels and extended Garza, I'd prefer spend that money elsewhere. A rotation starting with Hamels, Garza, Shark, and then 4-5 could be between McNutt, Wood, and Volstad. Then I think we could contend, but I'd love to add another bat. Maybe Upton or Ethier for RF making DeJesus a 4th OF and LaHair insurance plan or trade chip.
  17. I'd really like to see LaHair log some innings in LF first. LaHair and Soriano could make quite the platoon, though the defense would be pretty rough.
  18. Ironically, DeJesus leads the Cubs in runs scored. Paying Phil Rogers to analyze baseball is like paying Aaron Miles to play baseball.
  19. Don't forget Cardenas 2-3 with 3 RBI. His bandwagon sure is lonely. I'm still on it (though I haven't been on here to proclaim it really). He could still be a very useful major league player. I actually think he'd be a nice 2 hole hitter or maybe a guy who can hit in the 7th spot and give you some offense down there. I wonder if Stewart keeps struggling the way he has if Cardenas gets first crack at 3b? If nothing else, he could make Baker, Barney or Dewitt expendable for a team looking to add depth at the deadline. Baker and DeWitt make Baker and DeWitt expendable, and if anyone wanted Barney enough to make it worth trading him they should do it regardless of who's waiting in the wings. As long as he's cheap, there's no reason to trade him just to trade him because if nothing else he'd be a great utility IF.

  21. it could be that they are thinking about bringing up Cardenas sooner than later and will showcase DeWitt in hopes that he can make himself somewhat attractive as a trade chip before they just DFA him. Now as I recall, while DeWitt's an awful defensive 2B, he's somewhat respectable at 3rd so maybe that's where they should play him.
