  1. Apparently, Bosio has chosen Arrieta as his prodigal son, and the rest be damned.
  2. Roenicke didn't know much as of last night based on what I saw. Didn't sound like it had been more than a few days though. My though was S.I.D.S. If his son was in some dire condition for any length of time, I'd have to think he'd have already been on leave.
  3. Maybe they're trying to blow up Jackson's elbow. Regular rest. There's no reason for anyone other than Wada and Hendricks not to get first crack at the last 2 spots.
  4. Soriano makes 14MM Jackson 13MM Hammel $6MM Castro $5,857,143 Shark $5,345,000 Schierholtz $5MM, Villanueva $5MM Fujikawa $4.5MM Wood $3.9MM Veres $3.85MM So of our 10 highest paid players, 4 play elsewhere or don't play, 1 is on the DL indefinitely, and 3 are awful.
  5. Barney's trending in the opposite direction and Bonifacio is just as bad or worse than Schierholtz and Olt. I don't care what [expletive] direction Barney is trending in. [expletive] him. Doesn't trending suggest that he's expected to become better or worse than he is?
  6. Black topped out at 95 mph tonight. With all due respect to Hendricks, Black may be the first of the pitching prospects to stick in the majors. I still think he's a starter. And I think he could be at the back end of the rotation by this time next year. He'll reach the majors before Edwards and Johnson. Really shooting up my rankings if he can keep his control under control. Just out of curiosity, why don't you expect Hendricks to stick in the majors? Saying that you don't expect him to be anything more then a back end guy or long reliever is one thing, but saying you don't expect him to stick in the majors is quite a statement.
  7. Very nice to see a strong outing from Ryan McNeil.
  8. Ruggiano and Coghlan are currently less bad than our other outfielders.
  9. under two oz Jaycutlerdontcare.gif Geovany Soto.
  10. Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. Yes. Valbuena's been a pleasant surprise, but Pomeranz is a guy who I'd love to see with a healthy dose of, dare I say, pixie dust.
  11. To those looking to avoid a nuclear blast of meatballish outrage, stay away from Twitter when it's announced that Alcantara has been sent back to Iowa.
  12. Hopefully they can leave Wada and Hendricks be and put the kibosh on any Beeler/Rusin/Jokisch nonsense.
  13. Replace Almora with Baez or Russell, and Stanton.
  14. Arrieta is arb eligible. He should be looking at a hefty raise. Of the rest of the arb. eligible, Castillo and Wood are the only sure things. Probably Valbuena and Strop if not traded, and one of Wright and Russell. Ruggiano and Coghlan are likely going to spend the next 3 months auditioning. Lot of $ available for the offseason.
  15. It's been 5 days since the trade, and the team is playing it's worst. It's hard not to entertain the notion that the two are connected. Think about it. Between June 1st and the trade, they were 18-9, playing the best ball since the new regime. 7.5 games out of the 2nd Wild Card may not be cause for excitement, but to them, they must have been having thoughts of a run. Then, the rug is pulled from under them. Their two top pitchers are sent packing, essentially sending out the message that they'll be spending the next three months playing to pad their own stats. While players and rational fans alike understand that this trade was a huge step toward seasons that aren't effectively over in July, this has to take a hard mental toll one these guys. And I don't buy the whole "they get paid millions, they don't care" schpiel. These are young guys playing their hearts out to win. They were pulling it together for the first time in four and a half years. They probably knew this was coming, but when your at your peak, a blow like that will take the wind out of you. This isn't to say that they're going to spend the remainder of the season feeling bad for themselves, but it must be a huge downer which will take time to wear off.
  16. Alcantara sucks, therefore our development system sucks, therefore all our prospects suck, therefore we suck. Trade them all for veterans! Quick, get Soriano and Pierzynski while we can! Someone call Jermine Dye and Derek Lee! Manny!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. Sorry Mr. Cashman, we're fresh out of Samardzjia and Hamel. Perhaps you'd like to try our Edwin Jackson with a side of Carlos Villanueva?
  18. Do we have more pitching depth then we think? AAA (until tomorrow) Hendricks AA: Edwards, Johnson, Black, Pineyero A: Tseng, Blackburn, Torrez, Paniagua, Underwood Still hope for: Maples, McNeil, Conway No sure things, but a lot of cathedral ceilings.
  19. I was counting on Ruggiano being the only competent OF next April. Though I guess if Alcantara is there, that might work instead. He's been a very pleasant surprise since his return, but any sentence starting with "I was counting on Ruggiano" induces sorrow.
  20. Almora has his BA up to .280 and OPS creeping toward .700. Pretty impressive, considering that a little over 2 weeks ago, he was was in danger of having his Core Four membership revoked.
  21. i'm pretty sure brian cashman comprehends that If he thinks that he can top a package featuring a top 10 prospect and another who could be top 100 with his farm system, apparently not.
  22. For Russell or Baez, possibly. For Starlin, not close. FWIW, on MLBTR live chat the other day, Castro for Harvey and then Castro for Snydgaard and some other Met prospect were proposed and the host said the Mets say no to both.
  23. Ryne Sandberg. I grew up in the 80s. No further explanation needed.
  24. Not as exciting as The core four/future five/sexy six or seven, but this guy seems to be doing well for himself in the VSL: Wladimir Galindo 17 years old (DOB 11/6/96) 159 PA .296/.367/.547 7HR 13/38 BB/K Never heard of him, came to this when I googled him: http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2013/12/cubs-sign-top-ifa-wladimir-galindo/
