  1. What I got from that is that Cashman was thinking in terms of quantity, and doesn't comprehend the whole 2 top prospects>lots fringe and filler principle.
  2. If they were looking for a body to help keep the bench from flying away, do you think they'd use a top prospect?
  3. Wait, what? Since when does he still exist?
  4. Hopefully Lake and Olt's old ladies are due soon so Baez and Bryant can join him.
  5. That awkward moment when Logan Watkins and Chris Valaika realise that they're not amongst the future five.
  6. We all were, Manny. We all were: If it's truly just for two games, it's pretty pointless. May as well just send over Watkins or Valaika. Unless paternity leave is code for go have fun while we try and trade you.
  7. http://i.imgur.com/LbEbK.gif Glad I saw this. I just checked that both were out. Half expected to read about some freak batting practice collision which crippling both.
  8. FB does seem to play faster than 90 mph with his delivery. He hasn't had the control yet to really see his other stuff but it seems serviceable. Probably someone who's going to give up a few hard hits every game. Really unimpressed with the command. Lots of pitches up and lots of pitches out over the plate. Not the worst stuff I've ever seen from a AAA veteran guy. Wada really can't be lumped in as a AAA veteran.
  9. At least Michael Jackson only wore one glove for no apparent reason.
  10. Koyie Hill. Phillies. Catcher.
  11. We need to trade Coghlan before he realizes that it's not 2009 anymore.
  12. I really hope we don't move Valbuena for scraps. Since he came to the Cubs in 2012, he's been worth 4.9 fWAR in 973 PA. (2.8 fWAR per 550 PA). How does that 2.8 fWAR per 550 PA compare to other guys? Pretty well. It puts him right in the middle of Ryan Zimmerman (2.9), Martin Prado (2.7) and Pablo Sandoval (2.6). You can make the argument that since Valbuena has been situationally used he should see that rate go down as he faces more lefties, but it still goes to show how useful he's been when he's been in our lineup. Giving him away for nothing would be awful. If you know this, they know this. If they know this, they won't trade him for scraps.
  13. I get that Lester and Scherzer will both cost only money, but the other teams do to. As great as our offensive outlook is, pitching is questionable to say the least. We have the combination of prospects and money to get him. I love what they've done with the place, but now we want to win. Hamel's contract is ugly, but he'll be 35 when it's up.
  14. Carlos Rodriguez seems to be owning the VSL as he did the DSL before it. AZL wasn't kind to him last year, but could he make his way back at some point this year?
  15. Even if we were to absorb the entire salary, no way we're getting away without at least 1 of our shortstops. If the Phil's are dealing him, they're pretty much ready to start what we're hopefully finishing. Even if we give up 1 of Baez/Russell/Alcantara and 1 of Almora/McKinney, our farm is still as strong as it was last week. Which is pretty sick.
  16. I don't know if the Phillies are actually willing to deal him, but if they are, we should be more than able. We have the money. We have the trade chips. And he's exactly what we need. He's 30 and under a monstrous contract through 2018 with an option for 2019, but if we plan to start spending next year, I can't think of a better way to start. But what does the package look like? We can certainly absorb a pretty huge chunk of the salary, which should allow for a lesser prospect package, but it's still going to be a doozy.
  17. The good thing about spring training is that prospects can face big league pitching in meaningless situations. On the job training, if you will. This I s not a luxury a team can afford when trying to win games. But what if a team is in a stage when offering this on the job training is more valuable to the organization that the W/L record? Why not let these guys iron out their kinks versus the best in the world as opposed to feasting on junk ballers and the occasional prospect? Long story short, so long as the team is in this position, would you rather guys like Olt and Lake be outmatched by the best and hopefully learn from experience, or rack up ridiculous AAA stats vs. Justin Germanos and Jason Berkens, and then be blown away when they find themselves facing the real deal?
  18. Speaking of guys getting pulled, any reason why Zastryzny was pulled after 3 innings of ownage?
  19. lol but yeah @ZombieFerret77 @me @IowaCubs lots of hugs and high fives and pats on the back from the p coach! That's odd. If it was for a call up, I'd assume he'd stay at Iowa until just before his start and they'd use a reliever as a placeholder.
  20. He's totally starting in Cincy on Wednesday... Now he's pitching in relief for some reason.
  21.
