    As a communications major and a Home Appliance Team Lead at Sears, I refuse to let this thread die. Is it true that the best refrigerators are Korean these days? I will not stand by as you stereotype the fine people of Korea as manufacturers of quality appliances.

    Yeah, but I'm still unclear as to whether that was just the 12 year old(Murray?) throwing [expletive] up against the wall or not. As for PTBNL's, I'm pretty sure there are deals done that performance dictates what list of players a team gets to choose their PTBNL from. My thinking is that unless they're waiting on injury reports on Alcantara, they're simply taking their time scouring the lower levels.

    There were at least a couple years where Lake had the highest ceiling in the organization. He just won't reach it. A "ceiling" that there clearly wasn't much industry faith in since he was never a highly regarded prospect. There was to us, but not to the Keith Laws and Kevin Goldstein's of the world, who we're taught to disregard anyway. Unless they like our guys. Even Goldstein didn't dislike him so much as he got sick of being trolled by Cubs fans who didn't like his opinion that they asked for.

    I didn't think about that. Because it would be silly. Speaking of silly, it's how Carlos A Rod (who allegedly turns 19 Saturday) continues to make VSL hitters look to the tune of 4/42 BB/K in 40 IP.

    Like I said, not on the same level. My point is that when your trying to win games, you let these guys figure things out in AAA so they can get regular playing time and not be a liability to your chances. The way those two have looked lately, an upgrade wouldn't be hard to find.

    Not on the same level, but yes, he was a very high ceiling prospect. I forget who, either Tiger, Raisin, or one of those guys who know what they're taking about was very high on him around the time Castro came on the radar. Their situation is similar in that they're still here because as long as winning isn't currently of utmost importance, exposure to big league pitching and coaching is more valuable than the replacement guy who might look less silly at the plate.

    Unless they're making one final attempt at having him start, this likely spells the end for him. That's too bad. His stuff was a thing of beauty.

    Mendy in CF. I'm assuming that, I'm just thinking about the use of Lake's roster spot. The same argument for Olt applies to Lake. Seeing as the win games segment of our season is at an end, the faint glimmer of hope that these once high ceiling prospects figure something out is more valuable than the replacement level players who would step in. Both are still young enough that maybe there is hope, but if they are to somehow figure it out, struggling against big league pitching is more valuable than teeing off at AAA.

    As much luck as we've had with scrap-heapers, we no longer have any business joking about other teams having pixie dust.

    I don't know what kind of stuff he has or had, but if he has any of it left, we have the guy to make it work. Of course that would require him in the bigs. Even so, the next two and a half months will be for a few guys to pad their stats and a bunch of others to audition.

    He's had less than 400 PAs above the Arizona League. Even Kris Bryant had over 400 before reaching Iowa. Soler also had a few years of something resembling pro-ball under his belt when he came. and then took two years off before playing again. I love Soler as much as anyone, he's probably the most complete hitting prospect we have, but I'd let him stay in Tennessee for more than 14 games.... I'm with you. But if he continues to abuse AA pitchers for another month or so, the challenge of a higher level is more valuable than getting more reps where he is now.

    Iowa is going to be losing 2 starters after the All Star break, and it's not like Tennessee has anyone chomping at the bit to take their place. I'd much rather somebody with a glimmer of hope than some AAAA journeyman.

Arrieta 2-5: whomever we pull off the scrap heap and turn into studs, trade them for younger versions of themselves, repeat process. Who's playing RF? Narf. When you score eleventy billion runs a game, who has time to worry about such falderal sabermetrics as "defense" and "pitching?"

    He's the deluxe version of what Randall Simon meant to the 2003 Cubs. Enough left handed bat to be useful, but zero or negative defensive value pretty much everywhere that confines him to 'platoon at best on a strong team' status. Was his nosedive into oblivion due to injury or standard badness?
