  1. No. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. No!
  2. I don't get how we aren't "on paper" as good as we were last year at the start of the year. Last year's team wasn't any good at the start of the year. They were bad on paper. This year's team isn't any worse.
  3. As Kyle has made it his mission in life to report, I really doubt this year's team can be as bad as last year's just based off of the almost inevitable improvement from last year's worst pitchers to who will be this year's worst pitchers.
  4. It's fun having smart guys doing things. They might not do the dumber stuff we all secretly (or not so secretly) wish they would That's some passive aggressive horse [expletive] He's entitled to rub some noses in it. He was patient and showed some faith in the front office. Rub noses in what? Nothing has been accomplished. Nothing at all. Last year sucked and it didn't have to.
  5. I think I'm officially not disappointed with this offseason.
  6. The cost-controlled descriptor is rather meaningless. With so many guys at the level where we hope to get 110 innings out them, it makes plenty of sense. There's probably going to be many guys with 8-15 starts this year.
  7. 7 starters to me means there has to be a trade of some sort happening. I really can't imagine Villanueva and Wood being stuffed in the pen. 7 starters is hardly too many to start spring training with. And with half of them being injury risks and/or actually swingmen/bullpen guys, then I don't see why it has to be a trade.
  8. I think he's a little bit better hitter, and a better fielder. Less slap dependent at the plate.
  9. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/02/2014-mlb-free-agents.html Answering my own question Spending can still be about taking on other teams' big contracts or trading for studs before they get a big contract.
  10. there are like 150,000 people on the list With this economic climate do you think there would be a wait list in the offseason of 2014-2015 if they lost 100 games in 2013 and 2014? Because of the prices and lack of demand I lost $1600 last year on a bleacher combo plan. I could not sell Opening Day, either White Sox game or the Sunday Red Sox game for face value. I'm sure a lot of people that did not renew were first-time season ticket holders last year that thought they could recoup costs on selling half their games. When those tickets are averaging $10-20 per ticket, you start losing money really fast. Also, I'm sure many of these people have not updated their account info and the Cubs will never be able to get ahold of them. I think they would burn through the list pretty fast. There will be a wait list, but it will be filled with people who aren't serious about actually spending the money if/when their name is called.
  11. lot of coin for a swingman, although I guess when your rotation is almost all swingmen it makes sense
  12. OH MY GOD YOU DON'T FREAKING GETTING IT.
  13. I'm more ok with the Michael Bush money than the Campbell money. As am I. If they would have addressed the line the Bush signing would have seemed like a nice bonus. But they blame short yardage problems on who is the RB and yet no matter who the RB is they've sucked in short yardage for quite a while.
  14. But who gets named captain? I see some trouble in the clubhouse with all those superstars.
  15. Sanchez ended up in a situation where the currently frugal Cubs and his own team were the only two bidding on him. Maybe next year Boston, Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Angels, Rangers and White Sox will be looking to spend on starting pitching.
  16. But with someone like Hanie, they literally had no chance of winning a single game. The backup will never be as good as the starter, but it's not hard to see how, from Emery's perspective, signing someone like Campbell was a quick and easy fix of a gaping hole. A fix that didn't fix a damn thing. It was the simpleton's way out, not a smart strategic decision for an organization in need of a hell of a lot more before addressing the backup QB situation with serious money. $3.5 million is a lot of money in a cap world. Combine that with the unnecessary Michael Bush money and it's ridiculous how much money was wasted this offseason without addressing anything that needed to be addressed. Every smart team knows RBs are replaceable bodies.
  17. It amazes me how much people miss the point of it not being about Campbell but about wasting money on a veteran backup and ignoring the line. Even so, I think a young mobile QB has a lot better chance of having some success with this team than an old slow guy with shot arm and slow release.
  18. I'm not criticizing Campbell. I'm criticizing the stupidity of the plan that said, "hey let's ignore the starting line that plays every down when the team is on offense and rather waste millions on a backup QB who if he plays, the team is doomed anyway." Did Cambell really effect our ability to improve the line though? It's a salary cap league and he cost lots of money, so obviously, yes he did. They chose to sign him and chose not to upgrade anything on the line. That was a foolish mistake.
  19. I vote for "not trade Samardzija". That would seem to go against what they have done so far. Certainly he is one of our only valuable pieces but he's not a free agent until 2016 and relatively cheap, and definitely on an upswing in performance. He and Rizzo might be the only ones still here in 2016 Castro is the most likely to still be here, given the likelihood of being among the very best at his position and being signed longterm. Rizzo is less likely to be among the best 1B in the league and Samardzija's status as a pitcher automatically leads to some doubts and his history just adds to the doubt.
  20. One of the interesting things about Jackson is that he's been on a lot of teams that have preached pitching to contact, as opposed to striking people out. The Rays, White Sox and Cardinals all take that approach, and I think that partly accounts for the low K/9 output. I wonder if going to a team like the Cubs, who historically have seemed to emphasize the strikeout more, would raise the K/9 and increase the rest of his numbers as well, given that his control is improving. Historically meaning the Hendry/Rothschild era? Or are you saying the current regime in charging of preaching the Cubs way has historically emphasized the strikeout more than pitching to contact? I get the impression this regime is more let quality defenders do the work than the last Cubs regime was.
  21. These guys always seem to need some outside force to insult them and make them better, so if they want to pretend the fans here are rougher on the home team's mistakes than any other fans in the sport, then so be it. Just get the freaking job done. I don't need your respect. Just a win.
  22. The only realistic way is by drafting one this year.
  23. Clearly, you don't even know what week we are in stupid bye weeks ruin my think spot
