    Yep, trophy city. Along those lines, did anyone think that celebration was a bit over the top? It's not like he broke any records or hit any big milestone. Great, he played a lot of games. It's not like he's on some retirement going away party. I know that's just McDonough being McDonough and pandering to the idiots, but 1,000 game celebration, particularly for a guy who played 3/4 of those games on other teams just seemed like a bit much. Whatever, Hossa rules anyway. This season is awesome. That celebration was ridiculous and his wife looked like she had no interest in being there.

    I don't see the need to put that much thought into it. There's hasn't been a problem in the past. There is plenty of time to get a multi-round draft done and then at least another new 1-2 rounder leading up to the actual draft. Yea some of those are admittedly complex and time consuming for dew, or whoever runs it. But as mentioned it did slow at times and people complained (and if memory serves others may have complained about picks being made for them too quickly). I think the first idea though is fairly simple and would help keep things moving, while not having a huge impact. 24 hour clock. If you miss, the draft keeps moving. After say 5 picks or 48 hours past your pick, you lose it and the board consensus picks. If your merely a pick late or 12 hours late, you still have control of your pick, with fairly low odds you lost your guy. I think the first idea was convoluted and unnecessary, and not really explained either. Just give people a time limit. We aren't making our own teams, we're doing a mock draft, a sample of what the real draft may look like. If the guy isn't available within a reasonable amount of time, 24 hours during the the week, 36-48 hours over weekend, make the pick. This has been done here for years and it is not a problem. Sometimes 5 picks go off in a hurry, sometimes you wait a day. I don't see the issue.

    don't let people who only check the board once a week participate Problem is, I don't know how often people check the board. Some of the guys who never post are the quickest to pick, so I wouldn't know who to keep out. Maybe do something like fantasy drafts do and if you miss a pick then for your next one we take suggestions from the populace at large and make a pick after 6 hours or so? You start it soon and then give people 24-48 hours to make a selection. It's not a problem.

    It's all vague nonsense anyhow, and it's voted on by three guys with different views on the game; Bowden, Olney and Law. That category was 27 a year ago and in their August update, and is 25 now. They were ranked 13th overall a year ago and 16th overall at the August update, now they move to 6. I'm not sure what the downgrade is supposed to mean, but I would guess it has something to do with perceived ownership issues (flat payroll, a stall in Wrigley renovation talks and other teams raking in more and more cash via TV).

    I think they are going out of their way to get everything they possible can to start maximizing revenue streams out of Wrigley. That includes gaining public support for their plans, which entails reassuring people they will be subtle, classy and respectable. But there's no reason to assume they won't use a jumbotron for gimmicky nonsense, because that is the only reason to have a jumbotron.

    It kinda is when they've gone on record to say that it would be. I guess that would be the first time a sports team's owner hasn't been completely up-front about something, so you're right. Yea, Ricketts is a regular Loria. Also, what are you so mad about? I'm not sure why you think a jumbotron wouldn't be used for gimmicks. Those gimmicks are sponsored. It's not just a kiss-cam, it's the bud light kiss-cam.

    They could always DL him retroactive to a point in March that allows them to carry an additional player for a few games until his scheduled start (unless MLB has some sort of rule against that I'm not aware of).

    I like the pinstripes, but that all-white is pretty nice. I'm not sure what the anti-pinstripe thought process is though. It's a good look.

    The problem is nobody is going to trade for #1 because there aren't any QBs worth taking there. QB won't go top 3 now, so a team can give up less and trade for 3 or 4. Joeckel isn't trade up worthy considering how close Eric Fisher is on his heels. Nobody's trading up for Star now. Nobody's trading up for a pass rusher. They're probably keeping #1 or getting monumentally less than the Rams got for #2 last year. You don't have to get a huge haul, but the odds of somebody willing to give up something to make sure they land their guy are pretty good, even in a down draft. Of course, this plan worked a lot better when that trade helps you backfill the mid-rounder you gave up for Smith/Foles, but instead it's going to be #34 plus maybe more so they end up behind the "Draft Geno" plan now no matter what. With the new constraints on rookie deals, that 1st pick is more valuable, however, with no clear-cut number 1, the demand cannot be that high. They will probably be better off trading the best guy they can get than trading down for pennies on the dollar just to trade down.
