  1. actually, they are pretty much the same with the main difference that Bostonians have the supreme arrogance that comes with several sporting championships in a relatively small period of time.
  2. Well..., I should back away from the statement that it's clearly worse than Philly. It's debatable.
  3. The Cap hit will always be the average of the total contract. So a 5 yr 25 mil contract will have a 5 mill cap hit no matter how you structure the contract. But to him it would be more valuable to get $15m of that upfront. I've read some speculation that Bickell would be better off taking a shorter contract to stay with the Hawks in hopes of getting more money when the cap goes back up. The feeling is that this will be a bad year to be a FA since very few teams can afford the cap hit needed to offer stupid contracts to big name FAs. I can see him taking a short-term contract for that very reason, but other teams will have a lot more space to afford a bigger short-term contract. He's not going to get the "pillow contract" from the blackhawks.
  4. They're Boston fans. Prior to 2004 they were relatively sympathetic figures, but there's a reason things like Tawwwwmy from Quincy exist. They are horrible people and on top of that have become horribly arrogant sports fans. This has always been the argument for idiots regarding not wanting the Cubs to win the WS. I could see Cub fans becoming pretty arrogant after some success but when it comes right down to it, if the Hawks, Cubs and Bears all won and Chicago became the new Boston I'll gladly take all the vitriol that the rest of the sports world can dish out. I think this is a possibility, if the they all won and won frequently. But the difference is that Boston truly has some of the worst people in America. Think of all the worst NY stereotypes, but with none of the influx of other cultures, foreign and domestic, moving into the area to offer respite from the scum.
  5. I think people have been trying to downplay reports of his "high end velocity". I hope they didn't target him as a pen arm. I would hope they would try and see if he can be a starter and then shift him to the pen if that doesn't work out.

  8. The Ted Lilly comp is exactly what I've been hoping for with him. Although he was a 23rd round pick when he signed and Travis Wood was a 2nd himself.
  9. So that's Ian Clarkin, who the Yankees picked. The fist pumpers will love him.
  10. Because a couple of pundits didn't put a low enough number in front of his name, and people think that getting a guy with a pundit's ranking superficially lower than the spot you are picking in the middle rounds means you win the draft. It's not just that, but that most reports were saying he peaked at 90 and had average stuff with no stand out pitch. It wasn't until a little while later that "mid-90s" was discussed.
  11. Dude on MLB Network was quoting W/L record to mock the pick. Might have been as bad as anything Gammons or Reynolds said. Not just quoting it, but he went back to it a couple times and other panelists, I assume HR, were guffawing in the background.
  12. I had a problem with this as well, but I'm not going to knock him because of [expletive] parents. Aren't scouts supposed to check out the moms hips and how the dad aged? If you can cite a fathers athletic achievement you can dock him for naming him kris.
  13. Right now, now. If they win the cup then it will be Crawford or another hawk
  14. Nice to feel good about a team. I had them losing game 3 and winning 4 before the Keith suspension made it a toss up. Certainly not over yet, but it's over.
  15. Wait a minute. He spells Chris with a K. I need to reevaluate
  16. yeah, pretty much. That show with Brian Kenny has ruined him. He's went into full meatball. He was ruined a decade ago
  17. Who'd you want last year? I'm pretty happy with the pick despite my last minute change of heart. Same reasons I wanted Bryant to begin with. In most years I don't really have a preference I probably wasn't enamored with the hs bat boosted by all that grit, but not actually against it
  18. Suck it people who wanted somebody else!!! Probably the first time ever the cubs took the guy I wanted them to take.
  19. Not familiar with Tyler Bremmer, but have to love the 3/27 BB/K in 27 IP. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the former regime drafted him twice, out of a ... JuCo? ... and then Baylor. Off the top, I think his fastball tops out around 90. Throws a change, I think, that comes in around 80/81. I think he has a slider that comes in around 84/85, and a curve around 75-77. Off the top, none of the pitches, IIRC, are plus, and he might be more a guy with 4 average pitches. To be honest, haven't pondered him in awhile. Off the top, I think the change is his best pitch. Off the top of your head you know all that? Off the top?
  20. http://memecrunch.com/meme/LS20/anustart/image.png
  21. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/goodell-third-game-london-likely-205113429--nfl.html Is he going to suggest alternative dates that fit better with the city schedule? That will not be necessary, but they would prefer a 1:20 kickoff.
  22. Is that Meadows? I checked the list of who is attending the draft and identified everyone to the left of black socks and shorts (obviously don't need much help in identifying Judge or Frazier). Well whoever it is, I don't want him. I like pink shirt with fancy socks guy though.
