  1. playoff heroes routinely sign bloated contracts when their playoff numbers outpace their typical regular season numbers.
  2. 6'05" 235lbs DOB: 09/18/91 Skulina played a key role in Kent State’s Cinderella run to the 2012 College World Series and has taken on an even bigger role this spring as the Golden Flashes ace. He relies on his fastball-curveball combination to attack hitters and isn’t afraid to challenge them. Skulina’s fastball sits in the low-90s and runs in on right-handers. His curveball has good break and should be a Major League average offering. He uses his 6-foot-5, 235-pound frame to create a good downhill plane for both pitches. Skulina needs to develop his changeup to reach his potential.
  3. Not sure how you can speak so definitively about how money has nothing to do with it.
  4. Cubs just sent out emails stating four previously TBD Friday gametimes have now been listed as 3:05, starting with the July 5th game vs Pit.
  5. Guys like these guys are the guys our FO is notorious for. And yeah, they might also be saving the overslots for later. I'd get worked up over "unknown" 1st rounders, but 3rd rounders? No.
  6. http://www.heraldextra.com/sports/college/byu/baseball/byu-s-hannemann-likely-to-get-drafted-high-in-baseball/article_50ac6e36-ceb5-11e2-95ee-001a4bcf887a.html Oh my god that is an awful, scary, frightening, terrible quote.
  7. Only true for the media that wants a week of free parties and drinks with umbrellas in them.
  8. Possibly and/or Bryant is going to take slot+ to sign. If Bryant costs overslot, I'd have went a different direction. If they thought he was the most talented player available, I wouldn't have. Agree, it would be nice if they could go under and save, but if not, as long as he's the best they could get, fine by me.
  9. I'm probably just missing it, but I don't see what would be the point of taking an underslot in order to overslot later. Wouldn't you take the overslot first and then underslots after? Well, going under the bigger slotted spots at the top leaves more money for going overslot than going under the smaller slotted spots early.
  10. http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865579976/BYU-baseball-Freshman-star-Jacob-Hannemann-could-give-up-football-to-pursue-pro-baseball-career.html?pg=all We understand there's a young lady friend in Provo. Cameron is going to marry the first girl he lays.
  11. So he was already 19 when he graduated high school? Was he held back? Is that a typical age for Utah high schoolers? Did he get to play against guys 1-2 years younger than him in high school?
  12. So he's a freshman and 22 and has football. All sorts of signability issues with him. He's not an 18 year old who can go to school for a few years and vault up the board. And if he's fighting for a spot on the BYU football team at 22, he's not an NFL prospect.
  13. Nobody cares what you do at home, away from the team, with your free time, etc. Nobody cares what religion you are. People get annoyed at blowhard religious people who treat the workplace as an opportunity to recruit.
  14. His teammates hated Chad Curtis. http://espn.go.com/page2/tvlistings/show4transcript.html http://deadspin.com/5913134/former-yankee-chad-curtis-arrested-for-allegedly-touching-female-high-school-students-inappropriately http://bats.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/05/12/when-the-pinstripes-get-ruffled/ http://angelswinblog.blogspot.com/2012/01/where-are-they-now-chad-curtis.html
  15. His teammates hated Chad Curtis, and he was out of baseball by 32 (hardly forever) and he's apparently on trial for inappropriate touching of high school girls. Bible thumpers creep people out. Keep your religion to yourself and nobody cares, preach to people who aren't actually showing up to your church to be preached to and you will be disliked.
  16. ESPN is the most successful television network in the world and it's loaded with dolts.
  17. As bad as HR is, I wonder if some of that "talk about their relevance to the current 25 man roster of the team that drafted them" was simply a mandate that came down from the suits at MLB and MLB Network trying to make the draft a television event on par with the NFL. The NFL draft is good TV (sort of) because guys taken in April will actually be starters, and some will be starts, 6 months later. Also, the worst thing was the way Selig would say the next team.......is......now................on....the....clock.
  18. I don't live in Boston or Philly. I love it here. Never having lived out there, I often times just think of the entire northeast as more similar than it probably actually is. Philly and NY are so close, that it's amazing how quickly you really notice a difference in the region. Boston is further away. You also have the city/urban collar, suburbs and rural areas you'll see most anywhere else. They just overlap spheres of influence unlike other places.
  19. I don't live in Boston or Philly. I love it here. It's also the general stereotypical sports fan I am talking about. I have friends/in-laws who are fans of just about every team in this part of the country. For the most part, I can have a rational conversation with any of them without animosity, with the exception of the Boston fans. I have some acquaintances who are Boston fans and will only talk about the kids or other non-sports topics with them.
