  1. Holy crap, it was that bad?
  2. http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20140703/sports/140709527/ Bruce writes about Hoyer talking AA.
  3. What do you mean "some"? The whole point is that it's the 4th in the capital. That's what the Nationals do.
  4. Because hitting .260 is just easy and anyone can do it with a little elbow grease. Actually, I don't think that is true.
  5. plenty of good seats available in DC, and Arthur will be past there by game time while probably soaking the Jersey shore. Maybe I need a detour this weekend.
  6. All this "these two", "they" and "them" talk is confusing given the current title.
  7. Because he's the best jerry, the best.
  8. A win puts them 6-4 in last 10 and "only" 9 under .500
  9. http://img3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120229061749/arresteddevelopment/images/6/6c/1x10_Pier_Pressure_(42).png That's why olt is still on the roster
  10. If he does play he sets back his HOF eligibility, no? I could see him harboring thoughts of this being an audition for a contract in the offseason, but I think he just wants to be involved in baseball.
  11. http://i.imgur.com/JOJQY8n.gif no lake though
  12. I don't see any. He's a player/coach and I think the Cubs value the "coach" part more than the player part. I think if Baez or Soler were to come up to the majors this year, Manny might be able to come along as like an escort, but I don't see it this year. What if has a 1500 OPS the next 2 months? And a couple current OF get hurt?
  13. Bruce Miles ‏@BruceMiles2112 5m #Cubs Wednesday: Coglan LF, Ruggiano CF, Rizzo 1B, Castro SS, Valbuena DH, Castillo C, Schierholtz RF, Olt 3B, Barney 2B. Wood P
  14. Tommy Birch ‏@TommyBirch 3m Manny Ramirez is in tonight's I-#Cubs lineup batting sixth and DHing. #PCL As adamant as Theo was about his role when they signed him, it doesn't seem that they left themselves much room to call up Manny. What circumstances do people see needing to occur to make it happen?
  15. at the minor league level, it is simply just not possible to make a valid argument that the FO inherited a remotely viable farm system; i'd make the educated guess we've received less than 5 wins total out of that group to this point Shark was a 26 year old reliever with a replacement-level performance to that point in his career, but if you want to argue he was an elite asset, continue to do so, and prove further how unwilling you're going to be to think objectively Cashner's nearly 28 and has amassed a total of 3.5 fWAR; perhaps you'll tell me next what fantastic trade assets Larry Anderson and Heathcliff Slocumb were? You have shown no interest in thinking objectively at all. There's no point in talking with another apologist about their most pathetically apologistic nonsense. Boo hoo, they had nothing to work with, nothing at all. There was no talent and no assets and no hope. The 5-year rebuild was completely necessary and it's all the other guys' fault.
  16. His nickname (on his BR page) is "Big game James". Also, he threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball in a world series, picking up the only win his team would get in that series. If KC makes it in the playoffs this year, he'll get a ton of credit for being that team's #1 pitcher. I don't put any stock into this, but I still have a hard time believing there won't be a GM (or 2 or 3) that will give him an 80-100Mil contract based on that type of stuff. Hell, it could be argued that KC gave up one of the best prospects in baseball for him based on that type of stuff. Who cares what his nickname is? His most recent playoff appearance was 2011 and he gave up 7 ER in 5 IP. Nobody is going to base their judgement on his ability on 2008.
  17. Whatever you want to claim about how the player development has improved Baez, he was a talent in the system when they arrived. The apologists can't have their cake and eat it too.
  18. They had Cashner, which was needed to get Rizzo. They had a very young Castro and Samardzija as well. They also had the trade pieces needed to acquire Wood. There was no bare cupboard.
  19. I would not assume Shields gets an unjustifiably large and long contract. His reputation isn't that amazing. He's had limited playoff exposure and I don't think he even did very well. He's the kind of guy who, if he went out and had a great 2014 postseason, he will have a huge deal. But everybody knows he turns 33 this winter and he's not getting tons of Cy Young or all star credit, let alone those reputation making playoff runs. He might be somebody worth staying in on until he does actually sign.
  20. Yeah, I remember years ago thinking Shields may have been a one hit wonder or something like that but he's been pretty good for a while. He is old though and has a lot of innings on his arm.
  21. It's pretty clear Parks has Alcantara in the top 20. My only question is he saying Soler isn't top 40? Does he have Almora there instead? Does he do this list himself or is it collaborative. He could be more down on Soler than the list ended up being if others are involved in the decision.
  22. What did Brett write about this time?
  23. Kane County won :) And the Shawon-O-Meter up to .238 with a 2 hit day.
