  1. Yes, it’s dumb. Scouting is a make believe business and valuations are subjective nonsense. Moving up for your guy is just arrogance using somebody else’s credit card.
  2. I think the number one thing is Poles hired him and sabotaged his first year. Eberflus played the good soldier and didn’t complain, even after talking about the engine that makes the d run and then Poles not acquiring one in two seperate offseasons. Poles has a dilemma. Do you stick with the guy that guided your tank to its intended target? If so the you have to be prepared to offer an extension as early as this offseason, and definitely by next year. But then you probably have to fire Eberflus in the middle of the next contract. Or do you wipe the slate clean and get the right guy now, and with that start your own firing clock?
  3. That doesn’t mean much to me. All the signs were pointing toward him returning. There were a ton of positive vibes about him and his defense. I wouldn’t interpret a lack of a link to mean anything.
  4. Completely agree. This is almost an unprecedented opportunity for quick improvements and building an offensive infrastructure that will keep a team in contention year after year. But the head coach matters and I don’t see a path to Eberflus being the guy that gets it done. They need an entirely new offensive regime, and may even be hesitant to do that.
  5. I think we’ll know Eberflus’s future within a day or two, but guys have been fired a week or two after by other teams so it wouldn’t be unprecedented, especially if Warren is now running the process. Getsy may or may not be addressed immediately.
  6. They had two years and plenty of cap space. Just because they chose not to use it does not mean they didn’t have two years. They had two and blew it. That’s why we’re sitting at 10 wins over two seasons, with very limited offensive weapons, multiple holes on both lines and only a couple truly impactful defenders. Having some good players isn’t enough. You need impact and they don’t have them.
  7. 1) A lack of impactful RB isn’t a problem if you have impactful receiver group. The Bears do not have either. 2) the bears have had plenty of resources to address obvious needs for two years now and have failed to do so. I don’t have high hopes that Poles will figure it out now.
  8. Ron Turner was fine. Mike Tice was a good o line coach in over his head. Shoop and Crowton were bad.
  9. They never view the lame duck as a lame duck. That’s not how it works
  10. Why would pitt trade a 2 for Fields?
  11. Who stays, who goes? Who sticks around for one week but then is fired after another guy becomes available? Will Eberflus be on this list?
  12. People talk about how good the defense has looked for part of the season conveniently forget how bad they were in multiple games, how often they came up short in the end, and the fact they faced a last place schedule. The defense is just another defense in this league. They are nothing special. And they can’t afford to spend big resources on it this offseason since they pretty much have to go QB/WR in the first and desperately need o line help. Two years in and they haven’t found the engine that makes this go. It’s probably not going to happen.
  13. Jordan Love is very likely better than Justin Fields but Love’s coach is definitely much better than Fields’ coach.
  14. Shut the horsefeathers up. It was a blatant penalty called for every qb in the league for the past decade.
  15. When you are a defense first coach and your defense isn’t great 17 games a year. You shouldn’t be a head coach
  16. Last night in NJ. He had his head down going through the middle. rest of game was a scrum. Zero talent left on this team.
  17. They’re as bad as people expected, and a lot of people reminded us it would be like this.
  18. That’s assuming not only that they get those things, but that they hit on all of them. You may be getting an opportunity to improve 4 spots, but it’s unlikely that you’ll succeed at all 4.
  19. I’m really not concerned with optics. It’s year 4 for Fields if he returns, so he either takes off or he doesn’t (he won’t). I’d rather keep bringing in competition for the room than remain stagnant just because Bagent wasn’t horrible and Fields didn’t completely prove he ain’t the man. One way or another, I think you have to draft a QB this year.
  20. Trading out of 1 this year with the idea that you can trade up next year is a bad idea. You could easily wind up with late first rounders, that’ll cost you a horsefeathers ton to move back up.
  21. Okay, but admitting you aren’t sure they are ready to move on means you also aren’t sure they want to keep him. In either case, it simply is not true that you cannot envision the scenario where they keep the pick.
  22. I mean, the most obvious scenario is the most likely one, that they are ready to move on from Fields. How is it possible not to see that scenario?
  23. The Hawks can’t win with Bedard and Canada can’t win without him at world juniors. They were eliminated in quarterfinals
  24. I have to imagine if they don’t take a qb #1, they will hedge their bets and take a QB elsewhere and continue to do that every year. They aren’t going to marry themselves to Fields. They don’t need to, for one thing. The “keep Fields” timeline exists on a spectrum.
  25. Fwiw, Greg Gabriel knows nothing and nobody
