The only people he pays are glove first second tier guys and dudes willing to give away a free agent year to lock down their first big contract. And managers. The dope actually thought a manager upgrade would make a mediocre team a real contender. Jed’s extreme caution will probably keep him employed and the cubs will keep drafting in the teens.

What will happen first, cubs pick in the top 10 in a draft or cubs pick bottom 10? This garbage organization is picking 14 this year, there are only 9 teams with a worse record this season. Could they move back into the top ten in 2025 draft? My guess is they’ll settle into the 15-18 range until they find a way to purge this core.

They have a lot of D depth, but are lacking in high end talent. They can use a top pairing D man especially when you think about 3-4 years from now when Jones will be a 3rd pairing guy eating up cap space. But they can also use high end forward help since they are more or less stacked with middle six guys. Id be happy with either selection

Is this is reference to not bringing back Kane? I’ve liked the concept of the idea, a skilled player that can provide Bedard an outlet and scoring partner, signing a relatively short term deal for maybe a little more than he’s worth. It would help sell tickets and hype. but in practice? Do you really want Bedard paired with a small defensively challenged forward? Can CB really benefit from having Kane on his line? If Kane goes to 2nd line who exactly is he helping with his style of play? And then the off ice stuff. By all accounts, CB is a much different person than PK was as a kid. He’s not a hard drinking party animal punching cabbies and allegedly committing the worst crimes. given the effort they’ve made moving on from sexual assault issues, is there really enough upside in PK’s current abilities to deal with the downside?

The Blackhawks feed came through on espn+ and nhl network and it wasn’t terrible, but it was quite bland. And weirdly inaccurate at times. I don’t know the new guy but he appears to be a season pro who should be an upgrade.

You can only have 50 guys under contract. I have no idea where they are with that number but eventually they could get there with all the 1st, 2nd and 3rd round guys taken in successive years. Depth is great and necessary but at some point you hit diminishing returns.

I’m pretty sure they know the draft board at this time. Trading up in the draft is kind of hard, so I’m glad they did. And the surplus picks would create a logjam of filler type players eventually. They can still trade a pick or two for veteran help.
