  1. To me, the overpay comes in the form of the opt-out after three years. He's the highest paid pitcher in history, it's probably tough to get much more money after that. I would not hesitate to give these guys opt outs. If I can get three years of a stud pitcher but he walks away for more money after, fine by me. Give me the three year of studliness for only money and I am all set.
  2. Which columnist will be first to write the "he turned down more from another team" story and which team will get the credit for that made up story?
  3. Is he better than the Greatjon?
  4. oh great, this team is a bunch of socialists handing out participation trophies
  5. I want a really good pitcher and let the depth sort itself out.
  6. Well, well, well, it's back to favorite status for the Bears (-7) after beating the Packers. The niners suck, but have occasionally played well. There may be a decent chance that they blew their load by not getting blown out against Arizona at home. The west coast teams heading east for an early game theory would say the Bears have a good shot at winning this game. They really have no excuse not to win big. Coming off a half week extra rest, they have a shot to be .500 for the first time since week six of last season.
  7. Down with domes and their aesthetically unpleasant aura.
  8. The equation has changed. Yes, lots of people will watch a good Cubs team, but other teams will dwarf their revenues based on timing of deals. The Cubs will be better off than the also rans, but that has always been the case. They aren't climbing the ladder to elite revenue status without the help of grossly overvalued cable contracts.
  9. The model is force grandma to pay for channels she doesn't watch, that's how the networks profit and why teams get paid big. This is bad, but also expected and inevitable.
  10. Wicked turn of events
  11. Ankle tackle by number 5, gotta wrap up there
  12. I used to think that the more the merrier, I am starting to change my mind.I've never understood being bothered by too many teams being allowed to have the opportunity to play in a bowl game. It's not like it lessens the enjoyment of the rose or orange. Let them play. You don't cheer for anyone so your point is invalid I do cheer for a team.
  13. Is auburn not allowed to recruit skill position players?
  14. Eh, I'm the first to go conspiracy theory via conference affiliated referees, but Muschamp was behaving like a lunatic and assistant coaches never get much leeway anyway. Also, Jeremy Johnson is an AWFUL quarterback. Couldn't throw one within 2 feet of anyone all day. yeah, there's not much better than an Alabama loss but that was a legit personal foul and follow up penalty was inevitable. The coach was an idiot.
  15. I used to think that the more the merrier, I am starting to change my mind.I've never understood being bothered by too many teams being allowed to have the opportunity to play in a bowl game. It's not like it lessens the enjoyment of the rose or orange. Let them play. It depends on whether you view a bowl game as a reward for a good season or just an extra game at a neutral site at the end of the year. Mind you the line was blurred long ago but years ago making a bowl game was something to take pride in for all but a handful of blue bloods competing for a national title. Even 10 years ago a non-power 5 conference team making a bowl was an accomplishment. But at the same time teams want to play and schools want to make money so who cares? No, 10 years ago every not terrible team made a bowl. The diluted bowl season story is decades old.

  17. I've seen a lot of college football people comment about how Ferentz has been given way to much slack during his tenure, and I've never understood it. Sure, there are better coaches out there, but they aren't going to Iowa. Ferentz has done about as well at Iowa as Hayden Fry did. I'm not sure why people think Iowa can do better than this with its extremely limited talent and financial base, and complete opposite of the sexy recruiting atmosphere many other schools can offer.
  18. I think I'm sensing what Nebraska's weakness may be.
  19. [tweet] [/tweet]
  20. yikes abc, you really squeezed that nebraska player sexual assault investigation story into this game about as awkwardly as possible.
  21. We can not sign either of those two guys and still win the WS. Deniable teams win it all the time. Yes, it was acknowledged that they can, the point was a better team increases your chances.
  22. I understand very little of the post. You haven't watched the games? They play once a week. This isn't some grueling marathon. This is the only game you've really wanted them to win? I don't even know what this means.
