  1. That post is in reply to someone calling you homophobic when you called Daniel Murphy a fairy: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=439&p=32370#p32370 Yea the poster said he's about as homophobic as you. And I didn't know a thing about Daniel Murphy or his comments. And in regards to your long post above, I'm not saying there's any level to DV. I truly don't think he choked her. And the girlfriends brother was the one who broke the whole thing up. I am beyond against a man putting his hands on a woman in any shape or form that's not loving. do you know know what homophobic means?
  2. this is dumb and awful stuff You should feel shame
  3. I wasn't trying to be an ass. If people want to be ticked off about having Aroldis Chapman on the roster, that's fine by me. Some of the facts in this incident are irrefutable. Others are sketchy at best. My take: I'm not about to let bygones be bygones. I'm going judge Chapman by the way he conducts himself from here on out based on what happens next. How he conducts himself. Not on the field, but off. The leash will be very short. VERY short. And I'll be damned if I'm going to feel bad about it because someone else told me so. Don't matter if you tried. You were being an ass.
  4. no growing up in poverty doesn't excuse physical abuse and intimidation via gunshots
  5. The problem is he's not apologizing at all for his actions, but for his lack of better judgement (and for that, and that alone, is he truly sorry) I realize that I've brought this upon myself, but the separation you're making between his 'judgment' and his 'actions' is perplexing. They're inextricable. But I'll leave it with again reiterating that any apology is not going to come across as 100% sincere, one because it probably isn't, and two because even if it was it can't be in this medium. No statement, statement, statement with different words, it's going to be criticized as insincere no matter what. Given that curve, it avoided some of the worst problems that come with these apologies, so it's pretty good for what it is. Chapman was and remains not a good person, and people remain justified in not liking his acquisition. I'm not sure how you find that perplexing. They are not at all inextricable. His apologizing for his judgement is PR 101 for deflecting blame from your actions. He didn't apologize for what he did, and he is very clearly on record stating he did nothing wrong in the first place. It's the "put myself in better situations" defense for a DUI.
  6. I know right? So what if he was so angry he went into his garage and fired his shotgun 8 times to scare the [expletive] out of her, there are no marks on her! I'm not defending what he did, I just find it unfair to label him the way he's been labeled based on what we know. People are making it seem like he nearly killed someone. What he did was wrong and bat [expletive] crazy, no doubt about it. Too much alcohol can make good people do bad things. I just don't know if that makes him a 100% evil person, but I don't know enough. I'll take a self-imposed break from the board, I hope you all will find it in your hearts to give me a second chance. 100% evil is a bit beyond the threshold I require to think somebody isn't good people.
  7. Really? He apologized for a lack of judgement, not for what he did. That's a classic no apologies apology. It's garbage. It could be better, but could be far worse, so above average. He's apologizing for his actions with the active 'sorry' and not for their effect or interpretation on or by others, that's the important thing in these cases, because again, they are all 100% empty talk. The problem is he's not apologizing at all for his actions, but for his lack of better judgement (and for that, and that alone, is he truly sorry)
  8. That might have been a Cubs condition, but Chapman had no incentive to agree to it. He never asked to be traded and from what I've read liked playing with the Yankees even if they weren't going to the postseason. Even if he was looking to finish the season with a contender, he could have said no to the condition because he didn't want to bring more attention to the situation or was put off that he was asked to do something highly unusual. His incentive was to show he was willing to play nice with teams still unsure about how to deal with guys in this situation. It's going to be that much easier for his next team to justify signing him when they can point to formal apologies (especially when people somehow eat them up as going beyond what was required of him).
  9. you can't just put aside the one incident that defines his negatives. That's the whole point. And poverty doesn't explain away domestic violence.
  10. I mean, he literally says "I regret that I did not exercise better judgment and for that I am truly sorry". It's just words on a page so it doesn't undo anything that he did, but a small part of the irritation with Chapman was his lack of remorse. A professional hobby of mine is giving and evaluating apologies, and that's a pretty good one. Really? He apologized for a lack of judgement, not for what he did. That's a classic no apologies apology. It's garbage.
  11. You said this last night too...wondering why you're so sure he'd rather be a Yankee than a Cub at equal salaries. Because he seems happy and has at least been quoted as saying he would be down with returning next season even if he got traded. No reason not to stay with what you know if you're happy and the money is the same. Maybe he just seems happy because his agent told him it would be dumb to act as though you do not enjoy pitching for the team with the most money.
  12. you're damn right. That twitter account is up to 227 followers now, and comparatively few of them are pornbots.
  13. which in any real world setting effectively means the deal is not done. There are three parties to the deal if the cubs won't move forward without an extension.
  14. we're getting him for two months. and he's not the best reliever in the game. also, i will never be able to put aside the deplorable person he is, but that's a completely different issue. what's with all the nonsense about 2 months oh ye of little faith [tweet] [/tweet]
  15. I'm not sure you have the facts right on that one.
  16. facilities are always a question. This is why so many people were saying, "we hear this same stuff every year but like magic everything is fine by the time the games start." But the problem with that is not many games are held in impoverished third world countries, which is what Brazil is for the most part.
  17. are you still trying to figure out why we would want to trade for an elite relief pitcher??? I am, only because Theo is a crapshoot believer and this goes so against everything crapshooters believe in. Not all crapshoot believers toe the company line. You build a team to give you as many chances at making the playoffs as possible. But you also go all in when you feel good about your chances. Theo's done plenty of this in his career.
  18. I'm not sure that's all that terrible from a baseball perspective.
  19. I felt my arteries harden just looking at that thing. those aren't arteries
  20. [tweet] [/tweet]
  21. Funky donuts are ruining a good thing. They are inedible. Same with cupcakes. KISS
  22. Thats very stupid of the White Sox to decline (because they're going to be mediocre for the forseeable future) one man's king's ransom is another man's commoner's harvest?
