  1. I think the average fan sees the closer as the 4th or 5th most important position on the team with a good one very hard to find. So, it stands to reason that they'd also view a closer traded for a 5th OF as a bad deal. From outside Cubs fan perspective, Jorge Soler is about to turn 25, has been in the league for 3 years and has hit a serious plateau of "not very impressive". He looks good and does awesome things from time to time, but you have to expect huge improvement to be happy with him.
  2. You talking today or after the season? I see no reason to offer an extension today, unless there's a steep discount. I would definitely want to see an offer made later, as long as this season goes well. I wouldn't be happy if they went into this expecting it to be one and only one with no consideration for an extension.
  3. So is Davis eligible to bring back a draft pick if he signs elsewhere? I wouldn't rule out them bringing him back if this year goes well.
  4. The thread title poses it differently, yes, but the poll's title asks it the way the options are presented the poll's title doesn't really ask anything fix this
  5. I think the physical examination talk may actually be doctor's reviewing each other's reports on the player, rather than putting the player through an actual hands on physical.
  6. Franchise value isn't directly correlated to actual current revenues. Sure but I doubt they are hurting on revenues & dont even have an insane payroll either. Not hurting doesn't mean happy to spend $80 million on a closer.

  8. He's like schwarber without the ability to hit or slight chance of playing catcher on occasion.
  9. I would be upset if they dealt somebody valuable.
  10. agreed forced QB selections that have no business going that high on their own merit is how you turn into the Cleveland Browns. Spend your high picks on elite players. Find a decent QB to play with that team of elite players.
  11. To protect the rookie? He thinks the line is terrible and the rest of the offense (especially if and when Alshon leaves) IS terrible and I think he doesn't want to ruin the rookie with that. Yes, I have no interest in drafting a QB top 4 and throwing him out there with this team/coaching staff/offense.
  12. for the record, I was attempting to convey how enjoyable those little factoids are when put together, especially going back to my long standing stance in favor of the one game playoff. Now I just got to deal with the "payroll disparity" excuses.
  13. And then imagine you are a cubs fans and your brother-in-law is a pirates fan...
  14. If you're going to go ahead and spend that early 1st on a QB, and you aren't bringing Cutler back. Then why the hell not start the season with Barkley? Maybe Barkley and Hoyer. Well I wouldnt want two vets if they keeping 3 QBs. So it would be Hoyer or Barkley for me. Possible cost considerations aside, I'd still go Hoyer right now. I mean going into training camp, not the season. But I'd want two vets as a buffer to prevent them from putting a rookie out with these teammates.
  15. He would need to play the next 4 games at a relatively high level for me to say that. If you're going to go ahead and spend that early 1st on a QB, and you aren't bringing Cutler back. Then why the hell not start the season with Barkley? Maybe Barkley and Hoyer.
  16. No hot Carl?
  17. talk of indiana football should never be in a "championship" thread
  18. how do you use a magazine? Magazine? There's this awesome new invention called "the Internet." It'll put magazines out of business eventually. good talk russ http://cdn0.dailydot.com/uploaded/images/original/2013/7/25/goodtalk.gif
  19. we got todd ricketts in the white house that's officially denying climate change, so I don't think you have to worry about it
  20. how do you use a magazine?
  21. The explanation was that as soon as the playoffs are set you know the potential host cities for games 1,2,6,7 and the potential host cities for games 3,4,5. There was some level of certainty. I'm not sure why the NHL and NBA don't have that problem with 16 teams to account for (or I guess 15 since worst record in playoffs cant get home court/ice). Of course their playoffs last 2.5 months so they have a little more time I'm sure they do have that "problem" but as I said, it's probably not that big of a problem. It was an excuse more than anything. And I'm guessing the extremely prolonged nature of those playoffs plus the fact that they don't play back to back to back nights makes it a different animal. MLB has the date of every potential game set in stone long in advance. The NHL schedule gets reshuffled for each round and I assume the NBA is similar.
