Brian Cornelius Schottenheimer
Nepo baby coach
for several years I maintained that the bears got a lot more national grief than Dallas despite basically being the same organization since the 2000s. The comparison was very close, but Jerry Jones doing a better job exploiting revenue streams gave him more credit as an owner. The comp basically ceased to work in 2020s but maybe the gap will narrow again over the next couple seasons
From Mark Lazarus:
Blackhawks sign AJ Spellacy, a third rounder in 2024, to a three-year entry-level contract ($975,000 cap hit). Spellacy had a dynamite training camp and could be a nice piece of the puzzle in the not-too-distant future.
It’s not even a new world. There have always been running backs worthy of top ten picks. RB has a pecking order and top line guys do make a difference and are worth investment. The problem was people used to take the 3rd or 4th best RB in the first round as well. You can plug and play most RB but you cannot replicate excellence at the position.
A weapon is a weapon
Good enough to get two different head coaching jobs, neither of which worked out
it makes a ton of sense that a first time HC gets a former HC as the coordinator on other side of ball than his focus
Ben Johnson’s greatest success has been with an okay veteran. There’s been suggestions he didn’t want Washington job because he preferred using a stable veteran rather than volatile young draft pick. He may not have any interest in coaching Caleb Williams. If that were true I’m not sure I’d be bummed about missing out on him.
He could also prefer a situation where he can build a roster for 2 years then figure out a way to draft his own guy after he’s established a culture. Never underestimate the ego of a nfl head coach. They generally don’t like using others peoples players
He chose to overpay Davis instead of keeping daniels, so it was hardly an investment. It was a bad swap. He thought he knew what made great linemen and was wrong. He’s not good at this job
I think being the only team reported (that I know of) to have requested an interview with McCarthy while he was still under exclusive rights with Cowboys was a big tell. Why even request that one week before he would or would not be available without asking if not to send a message?
I was extremely excited for the first 30 seconds of that video love the powder blue look. Once they actually displayed the full thing with the egregiously large Nike logo and goofy looking cub logo, not a fan.
