  1. Washington won 4 games last year and made the NFC championship game this season. If that doesn’t qualify as a Super Bowl contender I don’t know what does. And if the bears can’t be as good as Washington then they’ve done something wrong. Minnesota wasn’t even considered a division contender going into 2025 and ended the year as perhaps the second best team in the conference. Contention is a nebulous concept. If you have a QB and not the worst defense in the league you can contend. The bears should act as though they are a contending team. If they don’t want a guy because of his age and exorbitant cost in assets, fine. But don’t pass on a guy because you think you aren’t close enough to contend
  2. The athletic is running a series that ranks the prospect pool list for nhl Organeyesationa and the got into the top ten last week. Last year they ranked 7th, since Bedard never appeared on the list as a straight to NHL guy. After adding 3 first rounders last summer they are now 4th. it is heavily D dependent, with Artyum, Korchinski and Rinzel rating 1, 3 and 4 and Del Mastro sneaking in at 10. Nazar and Boisvert are also in the top 5. A lot of guys are well respected and expected to contribute at the NHL level but a lot of them are considered middle six role players. It’s nothing surprising but another confirmation that these guys desperately need to find a high end winger from somebody else’s system sooner rather than later. Free agency is the most simple way, but a trade or three is also on the horizon.
  3. If the bears aren’t ready to contend now they might as well can Poles today and get a new guy to overhaul the entire team, including Caleb.
  4. It happens to every guy your age.
  5. That was somehow worse than the description. I applaud the effort to go out there though. Every game needs goalies
  6. I assumed Poles felt obligated to give Eberflus a shot with a real nfl roster after tanking so egregiously. I would accept the theory that he was not allowed to fire Flus if not for the unnecessarily over the top public support he gave Flus. Hopefully I’m wrong and Poles is just a good actor with a real plan.
  7. Blackhawks calling up Levshunov - not expected to get any game action. the AHL is on its all star break. So the Blackhawks latest first round pick will just get some NHL practice experience https://www.bleachernation.com/blackhawks/2025/02/03/blackhawks-call-up-artyom-levshunov-for-practice-only/
  8. Given how clear it’s been that BJ was holding out for the bears job when he passed on offers last year, I wonder how much they could have saved if they just bit the bullet on Eberflus after 2023/24 season. His price had to rise after this past season. I’d imagine Eberflus’s $6m salary would have been offset over the course of a 5 year deal with Johnson if it started last winter
  9. You would think. But our girls 14U team had a similarly untenable rift between a couple girls that ended in one of them moving teams in the offseason and it was much more petty than an infidelity issue. Miller is described as a “sandpaper” guy who is very vocally critical of teammates but also has issues on the defensive end, which is an odd combo. Being a hardass that doesn’t play 200 feet can’t work.
  10. The long awaited trade of disgruntled Canucks forwards has finally come to pass. Vancouver has reportedly traded JT miller to the rangers.
  11. I cannot believe Jed allowed the hated Mets to steal Madrigal from us
  12. Davidson isn’t taking any criticism for this. He’s been given a longer leash than any sports executive in Chicago history by people who are all to happy to accept losing now and into the future.
  13. I’m pretty sure that was an intentional bank pass. It’s definitely a thing guys do even well below the nhl level
  14. Yes and they didn’t even get a 3rd for him since they had to eat more money on the other contract to facilitate the trade. My point is bringing back 3rd round picks doesn’t do much of anything for this team. We saw last year how frivolously Davidson treated his plethora of picks with that Islanders trade, practically giving one away to move up a minimal number of slots to take a guy they could have taken later. There are nhl contract limitations. They already had 2 firsts and 2 seconds this year. They have 3 seconds the following draft and 2 more in 2027. At some point there isn’t going to be room for all these prospects. A third in 2025 is ultimately most likely to get lost in the shuffle. They may end up moving future picks for an actual impact player one of these years and maybe this extra one gets them closer to the tipping point of realizing the surplus is superfluous. It wasn’t an awful trade, but it still seems kind of meaningless.
  15. Chicago gets its first win since trading Hall and facilitating Carolina/Colorado trade. 4-1 in Tampa. Teuvo, Donato, Bedard and Slaggert scored, Jones had two assists and was a +3. It was their first three goal margin of victory since American Thanksgiving. Only their 4th win in 2025. it was their 37th point in 50 games, which is kind of sort of pulling away from San Jose’s 36 points in 53 games. They face Hall and Carolina next
  16. Cowboys hire Flus as DC
  17. The bears need impact players.
  18. The Chicago Stars will open training camp without star forward Mallory Swanson, who will miss time due to personal reasons, the team announced Monday. The Stars didn’t provide additional details but said they have been in contact with Swanson and “are fully supportive of her decision.” “I’d like to thank the club and the fans for their understanding during this time,” Swanson said in a statement. “I appreciate the kindness and encouragement from my teammates and all the Stars staff and hope to be back with the team and playing in front of our fans as soon as I can.”
  19. He was with the pelicans for 5 years but hasn’t been since 2019. Dennis Lauscha is the president. Loomis has assistant GMs and football admin guys below him.
  20. The commanders have been rebuilding for decades
  21. They got their third round pick back from Carolina which is kind of a pointless trade to make unless Hall wanted out and they wanted to make him happy
  22. Famously there’s a kangaroo court in every clubhouse dummy
  23. I remember really liking Antwaan Randle El back in the day
