  1. There are at least three guys in the same situation that Nazar was in a year ago, guys who will be signing after college season and playing in the nhl. Then a guy who will be the 2nd pick in the draft who will likely play NHL minutes in 2025/26. About 5 guys for 2 spots. Not counting Donato
  2. Donato is a solid bottom six guy on a good team. He’s almost 29 and having a career year. If he’s willing to sign a team friendly contract with minimal term, sure sign him. But Teuvo, Mikhaev, Foligno, Reichel, Dickinson, Bertuzzi are all signed through next year. That’s half your forwards. Presumably they sign a big contract guy this summer. That leaves 5 spots for Bedard, Nazar, Slaggert, and a slew of young guys.
  3. Blackhawks scoring a plethora through two periods
  4. You cannot compare them on one hand and say it’s not fair to compare them on the other
  5. It’s fair when everybody is talking about him breaking Gretzky goal record
  6. This does a decent job of breaking it down https://www.bleachernation.com/blackhawks/2025/02/07/lets-talk-about-the-connor-bedard-criticism/
  7. There’s 4 or 5 McCaskeys on the board, along with Pat Ryan. My guess is they collectively have a controlling interest. It is likely that some of the family will look to sell off their portions but they’ve been working on this for decades.
  8. Montreal came in at 3 and now Wild and Sharks are duking it out at the top.
  9. Holy horsefeathers they almost won in regulation
  10. Donato with a beauty of a redirection tip. and tnt sports looks like a youth hockey scoreboard operator unable to take the penalty off the board after the PPG. Just lets the time run out on PP while 5 on 5.
  11. Maroon misses a wide open empty net by not being able to lift the puck 6 inches. Oilers score shortly thereafter. The flood is coming
  12. And there’s the first one…, one minute in
  13. Really weird having a Blackhawks home game in second intermission as midnight approaches on the east coast. Are Blackhawks fans able to watch this game locally on TBT/max? This feels like one where they are going to give up a few in the third
  14. Process of elimination says Montreal Minnesota and San Jose round out the list
  15. Detroit was 5 they haven’t done 3, 2, 1 yet. this is a summary of Columbus 6. Columbus Blue Jackets The Blue Jackets were the most difficult prospect pool to slot this year because Cayden Lindstrom, their top prospect and the No. 4 pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, is the most difficult prospect to slot. In theory, Lindstrom replaces the graduated Adam Fantilli and Kent Johnson and the traded David Jiricek and slots right in atop their pool with Denton Mateychuk. But he hasn’t been healthy in over a calendar year now (going back to December 2023) and while he has skated consistently, the back injury he’s rehabbing has kept him out of games in his post-draft season. Still, the Blue Jackets have a good pool, with good players at every position and three legit young goalies who should give them good depth in net
  16. Washington won 4 games last year and made the NFC championship game this season. If that doesn’t qualify as a Super Bowl contender I don’t know what does. And if the bears can’t be as good as Washington then they’ve done something wrong. Minnesota wasn’t even considered a division contender going into 2025 and ended the year as perhaps the second best team in the conference. Contention is a nebulous concept. If you have a QB and not the worst defense in the league you can contend. The bears should act as though they are a contending team. If they don’t want a guy because of his age and exorbitant cost in assets, fine. But don’t pass on a guy because you think you aren’t close enough to contend
  17. The athletic is running a series that ranks the prospect pool list for nhl Organeyesationa and the got into the top ten last week. Last year they ranked 7th, since Bedard never appeared on the list as a straight to NHL guy. After adding 3 first rounders last summer they are now 4th. it is heavily D dependent, with Artyum, Korchinski and Rinzel rating 1, 3 and 4 and Del Mastro sneaking in at 10. Nazar and Boisvert are also in the top 5. A lot of guys are well respected and expected to contribute at the NHL level but a lot of them are considered middle six role players. It’s nothing surprising but another confirmation that these guys desperately need to find a high end winger from somebody else’s system sooner rather than later. Free agency is the most simple way, but a trade or three is also on the horizon.
  18. If the bears aren’t ready to contend now they might as well can Poles today and get a new guy to overhaul the entire team, including Caleb.
  19. It happens to every guy your age.
  20. That was somehow worse than the description. I applaud the effort to go out there though. Every game needs goalies
  21. I assumed Poles felt obligated to give Eberflus a shot with a real nfl roster after tanking so egregiously. I would accept the theory that he was not allowed to fire Flus if not for the unnecessarily over the top public support he gave Flus. Hopefully I’m wrong and Poles is just a good actor with a real plan.
  22. Blackhawks calling up Levshunov - not expected to get any game action. the AHL is on its all star break. So the Blackhawks latest first round pick will just get some NHL practice experience https://www.bleachernation.com/blackhawks/2025/02/03/blackhawks-call-up-artyom-levshunov-for-practice-only/
  23. Given how clear it’s been that BJ was holding out for the bears job when he passed on offers last year, I wonder how much they could have saved if they just bit the bullet on Eberflus after 2023/24 season. His price had to rise after this past season. I’d imagine Eberflus’s $6m salary would have been offset over the course of a 5 year deal with Johnson if it started last winter
