  1. Seattle had 5+ years as an elite unit with Sherman/Thomas/Chancellor/Wagner and that's nearly the quality you're lining up with Mack/Smith/Amos/Floyd/Hicks/Goldman/Fuller also, PFF fwiw: But didn't Seattle build their defense (nearly) entirely through the draft over a ~2 year period? They didn't have big money free agents like Mack and Hicks. The Bears have Smith and Floyd on relatively cheap rookie deals but the rest are all big money and 26+. Adrian Amos is likely gone this offseason, given the extensions and contracts they've already had to spend on everybody else. Two things work against prolonged greatness on defense. 1) While an offense can theoretically rely on a QB to drive the entire engine and mask the weak spots, defenses with weak spots will get exploited. An elite defense takes a whole bunch of elite money making players. 2) Elite defense relies heavily on youth. You don't veteran savviness your way to elite D. And football youth is especially fleeting. When we look back at this era you're going to start with last season as the first good one, this year potentially the first elite one, and then maybe 2 more years near the top. But they will have a very tough time restocking the defense to keep it elite in 2021. They are going to have a lot of pressure making sure they get something out of the 3/4/5 picks in 2019, then they have to hit on the the 2/4 in 2020. It's going to be very tough to maintain.
  2. The next sink that talks back to Javy gets it
  3. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of our fan base thinks Strop sucks, or at the least is nothing special. yea, I'd be stunned if Strop is thought of much at all outside of NSBB'ers. #5 might be John Lackey because of his legendary mound melt down in game 2 (I think it was game 2) last year, but not in a good way. a large contingent of cubs twitter rightfully loves strop
  4. Right, I get they lost draft picks, but people are acting like their window is shut after this year. Mitch will get better, and I think a lot better. A slightly above average QB can win the Super Bowl with this defense(assuming it stays at this level). Mitch probably won't get to that point this year yet and they still will finish with 10 wins. The problem is there will not be an influx of great talent to help make that happen. When you are counting on your team to improve over the next couple years, you generally count on draft picks and free agent signings. Well, they won't have any blue chip picks and they won't have much money to spend on free agents either. It's all on Mitch becoming very good. He can't just be good enough. He has to be very good. He's not projecting to be that at the moment.
  5. Kreutz is a GD brain dead goon. Every QB "hangs their head" after an incompletion. It is the universal pose of a QB listening to the next play call on his headset. Body language nonsense is not the issue here.

  7. I would guess they don't want his first game against this defensive line.
  8. this may be true so this isn't me saying you're full of it. it's more just wondering out loud. how could a catcher have a hamstring that was physically bothering them to the point they can't run hard and still be catching? wouldn't the constant squatting and popping up just exacerbate the problem ten fold? I would think the squatting wouldn't be that bad on the hammy itself, since it's your quads and calves doing the work.
  9. let javy be a shining example of how to swing the bat, boys http://24.media.tumblr.com/71eb13a52039626d8630f221ce02f131/tumblr_mtvbf2dONV1rmyxuyo1_500.gif
  10. Finally, a game that takes place during the day. But still not a nooner (1pm for us coastal elites). Chicago brings a truly dangerous defense out west to face a team that has scored a grand total of 6 points this season. Presumably, this would be the game when Sam Bradford suffers his annual injury. The Bears are 6 point favorites on a road, which points to a lot of gambling faith in them. They are 2-0 ATS this year. The playoffs are very much in play right now. There are no teams in the NFC North with more wins, there are only 2 teams in the entire NFC with 2 wins. This should be a win. Hopefully Mitch can pull it together and make it a laugher.
  11. Just imagine how bad this team would be without Mack. The issue is this isn't a "they'll grow into it" situation. They don't have any future first round picks. They have to win with what they have. That was a good show by the defense, although they still get gashed a bit too much for an elite defense, and the weapons are obviously all there on offense. Taylor Gabriel would have been the #1 receiver on past Bears teams. It was all set up on a platter for Mitch to shine, and he didn't. I'm not upset with the 24-17 win. They covered. But I'm disappointed in Mitch's misses.
  12. That was a case of fat finger typing with eyes half open this morning. I only had ~4 beers and couple glasses of wine last night.
  13. The underthrown INT bothered me, as it was first down and he, you know, underthrew an open receiver. The should have been INTs were worse. The horribly missed throws were bad throws. He was not accurate at all. It's troubling to see that. The playmaking ability is there, but where the hell is the throw making ability?
  14. This. A horsefeathers coaching staff last year plus people are drooling over Mahomes. Give it 8 games at least, especially with a new coaching staff. This team is a 10-6 team. 8 games at least? This isn't baseball. By week 8 your fate can be decided. This team can't afford a guy who can't make throws.
  15. This isn't a creativity issue. Mitch sucks.
  16. He didn't miss significant time in either 2015 or 2016, it's not like he's never been able to stay healthy for a whole season. There's no reason to expect he's going to miss 6 weeks every season for the next few years unless you think he's just chronically broken now at age 24. this might come off at nitpicking but didn't russell pull a hamstring or have leg issues before the 2015 NLCS and was left off the roster? yep, he got hurt running out a triple. He's gotten hurt roughly once a week ever since.
