  1. When the Cubs try and make things happen on the bases you can count on the thing that happens being the end of the inning.
  2. One game among many in a terrible season for a catcher whose career began fading years ago and is probably very close to the end. yes, i just don't like pinning this loss solely on him. let's not make him the whipping day less than 24 hours after he's arrived Jim Hendry is the whipping boy on this one.

  4. This is off topic, but Brock sucked horribly with the Cubs, and the fact that he became an early version of Rickey Henderson after he left was bad luck, not a terrible deal. When talented young prospects struggle early and then develop into better players in their early-to-mid 20's, it's called natural progression, not luck.
  5. Why? He had 4 days off, and has now played 5 straight days. 5 more makes it 10. Are we really unwilling to let Ramirez play in 10 straight?
  6. The decision to give Rami the day off had already been made prior to yesterday's game. It's not like there's some rule that says you have to stick by such decisions. You have to adapt to what else is going on. I agree 100%. Screw the future health of our all star third baseman. Todays game will decide the penant. I'm not sure how deciding to put off a day of rest for Ramirez with Lee on the bench for 5 games is screwing the future of Aramis.

  8. did you not read the link?
  9. Different person, that was cubbette I believe. Oh yeah, that was fun. Wish that person came back to expound.
  10. Pagan in July: .258/.273/.387 He's 26 now, in the beginning of what should be his best years. But he's yet to show anything close to a sign that he's capable of providing decent production to justify starting in CF over any sustained length of time, in place of a guy like Felix Pie, who at leasts offers the hope of something greater than mediocrity. That being said, I'm fine with Pagan staying on as 5th OF for as long as he's still a minimum wage player. I'm fine with Pagan as a 5th OF as well. And Pagan's July is slightly better than I thought, though still not good enough to warrent holding back Pie. His slump really started before July though. He started the season hot, with an OPS well over 1000. It was at 872 by the end of May, by June 21, following a big game in Texas, it was at 884. Between that date and the all star break, it dropped 145 points.

  12. She's also not trolling on here like someone who would pretend to be someone they are not just to get a rise out of people. This site has become quite popular. Roster moves have been announced before they became public knowledge. People of importance post here occasionally. NSBB has gotten some air time on WGN by Len and Bob. There are minor league family members posting here. There are minor league broadcasters posting here. We'd probably be amazed at some of the people who read (lurk) this board, even it only periodically. I just see zero reason to call people out unless they post something that really deserves calling out. RedIvyCub's posts have been pretty harmless. When she posts that Lou and Hendry are sleeping together, maybe then I'll get alarmed. Is this not the person who ranted about Ryno ruining his marriage or something like that?
  13. All lineup decisions should be based on reasonable expectations of what you think will happen. Making a decision based on 3 weeks of comparisons from a month or two ago is stupid. I'm not making comparisons based on 3 weeks. Pie and Cedeno have been overwhelmed every time they've been up. That's simply not true.

  15. The Cubs aren't on a winning streak. The Cubs are winning. Please, explain to us why now would be a good time to make Murton, Pie, and Cedeno starters. Because the point is not to be as good as they are, the point is to be as good as they can be, and each one of those guys has a good opportunity to be better than what is already on the team. I'm as happy as anybody that the Cubs have gotten themselves in the race. But to pretend for a second that the last 3-4 weeks of success means there's no room for improvement is just plain wrong. The Cubs have numerous weak spots, and they should look to improve at all of them. With a lack of any super productive bat in the lineup, the Cubs offense needs to rely on as many spots as possible producing, which means avoiding any blackhole type production. With several underperforming spots in the lineup, most notably SS, CF and RF, and the Cubs currently getting solid AAA production out of quality prospects at each of those positions, there's really no good reason not to give one or all of those guys another look, now.
  16. The Cubs aren't on a winning streak.
  17. Odds are that any sale of the Cubs is going to be a prolonged process that will most likely keep the Jim Hendry/Gary Hughes tandem in control throughout, at least, the first half of the offseason. This is the time when most extensions are given to veteran players. It's when guys like Glendon Rusch, Henry Blanco, Antonio Alfonseca and others are given an early retirement package from Jim Hendry, signing contracts worth millions and millions of dollars. Now that Hendry has traded for Jason Kendall, and with the franchise showing absolutely no faith in Soto being a stop gap catcher for the next couple years, it's virtually assured they will come to terms on an extension. Hendry pays no attention to all the information available that tells us older players decline, old catchers decline quickly, and past-their-prime players are not worth the money. So, what do you see happening sometime in early November?
  18. Where are the pics? Jennie used to be hot. I haven't seen any visual evidence of what she looks like now though, post child, and several years after college.
  19. Any argument made in favor of Kendall took a hit long before last night.
  20. I'm not sure how one comes to that conclusion. It's not as if he did nothing in the majors. He looked really good at times. He had a 2 week slump, and they didn't allow him to work through that.
  21. well the cubs are using my theory(and many others) that your best reliever should be in with the game on the line. baseloaded up 4 in the 7th was the crucial point. i hope that is his role for the rest of this year too. as do I. It's where he helps the most.
  22. well it certainly isn't but he's slugging well and his OBP is off the charts. I think it will come, just a long road back from a broken wrist from what i've heard. takes along time before you can regain full strength and sometimes you subconsciously favor it. Problem is that he's hitting for less power as the year goes on. Yep, after an unsustainable April, he's been an 850 OPS guy in May/June and is sub 600 in July. He's not killing the team, but they need him to do more, and I'm not sure he can. It's July 13th so the month isn't half over. Not to mention that there hasn't a game for 4 of those days. So what? What does that even mean? While his overall numbers look pretty good still, his post April numbers haven't looked nearly as good, and July is included in that.
