  1. I think I Cubbed, did you feel it?
  2. Is team president really a carrot with appeal in the NFL? How many team presidents are real working GMs under 60? Football people are egomaniacs that want to make the decisions about players. Most teams that are good eventually become a head coach centric organization. I don't really see the opportunity to give a current successful GM a promotion to take over football ops and then hand over those ops to a GM.
  3. He’s a 49 y/o with a kid whose lived in the area for 16 years. He went there because the job was open and he didn’t have to move. Reinsdorf has his issues but he’s famously extremely loyal to his employees.
  4. The rich get richer while the poor get poorer. After they possibly collect on the insurance claim, they will increase ticket prices to cover the increase in their insurance premiums. It's a never ending cycle. They will increase ticket prices if/when demand allows for it, not to cover the cost of something else.

  6. A change in ownership is not a thing the public can lobby got or something we can expect. There are plenty of more hands on owners with as bad or worse results. Calling for an ownership change is pointless and unnecessary. There is no reason why these people can’t hire better football people on their own. They’ve done better and they’ve done worse. They can do better.
  7. I’ve been a “let Nagy and Pace find their next QB” apologist for too long
  8. I did think you were only talking about the 90s, so my bad for missing that you also mentioned their Series victory and some of the good players from that time like Konerko. I also screwed up in not mentioning Mark Grace and some others like Rod Beck in his first go-around. But those things said, I was absolutely suggesting that teams with lesser records and no real contention drives can be even more interesting and fun than really good teams. One of my favorite teams ever was the ‘01 Cubs after most of their planned starters & stars went down to injury and a bunch of vets mainly seen as bench players ran with the division for quite a while. As far as I’m concerned, those few months were as cool as even 2007 or 2008. IMO, interestingness is a broader concept than contention or elite skills. The White Sox were very good and had very interesting players. The Cubs sucked, had boring aging stars, and were dull as hell until '98.
  9. The White Sox were the far more interesting team in the 90s and the first to crack the longterm WS drought in 2005 and never came close to overcoming the Cubs in popularity in any meaningful sense. They lost a lot of games in recent years and have a long run of sub 2 million attendance seasons as one of the worst teams in the worst division. They'll have to go on quite a run and keep the team together for the long haul and have the Cubs go back to a White Sox level of postseason droughts to make a dent. As a 90s kid I must protest. The 90s Sox were pretty cool, though you’d never have caught me admitting it back then. Frank Thomas, Robin Ventura, Ozzie, Ray Durham a little later...and they even had Carlton Fisk, one of the better catchers anyone will ever see. Bo Jackson and Tim Raines at times, Harold Baines, though none at their best by then. Ellis Burke, Jack McDowell, Julio Franco and John Kruk kind of randomly, among many others. These were good teams that could have gone far, and if not for the strike, really might have. But the best Chicago baseball in the 90s was absolutely the Cubs in the early 90s. Ryno, Andre, Greg Maddux, Rick Sutcliff, Shawon Duston, Frank Castillo, more journeyman 3bs than you could shake a stick at. George Bell too for a short time. And then the best moments later in the decade too, with Kerry’s emergence and 20 strikeout game, plus I guess Sammy’s rivalry and chase with McGwire for those more comfortable PEDs than I. Kerry was the bridge from the Ryno/Harry years through the letdowns in 03 and 04 and 07 and 08, all the way through to Rizzo and the rise of the generation we’re Joe starting to see move on. And not just that, but a damn good pitcher and example of perseverance too. I will freely admit to incrementally inching toward being a White Sox as well as a Cubs fan of late, abs listening to Len on Sox radio every now and again will only increase that. But no, as amazing as Frank Thomas was, and despite the powerhouse that those Sox teams were, they never held a candle to what was going on in Wrigley in the 90s... I'd assume this was a joke but already got in trouble once. Still going to assume this was a joke though.
  10. putting "grew up in chicago" in the list of attributes needed is a terrible idea. The most provincial big city in the world doesn't need more of that nonsense.

  12. I posted this earlier but I found record of him being a registered Democrat in Florida. That said, he was listed as inactive so I'm guessing this was back when he was the Marlins TV guy...Obviously the world has changed quite a bit over the last 16 years. And yet it is exactly the same
  13. Len is a lounge guy len is rawdog
  14. this is a ridiculous comparison, andy masur is a nobody who started doing radio for the sox in 2018. i don't care for pat hughes but his status is on a completely different level. The point I'm making is that especially at the MLB level, broadcast jobs are in short supply and in order to get your dream gig you'll likely need to be cutthroat to some degree. I don't know that Len would have taken the Cubs radio job this year under these circumstances, but I find the 'Pat is a legend, he would NEVER' to be short of 100% convincing. I was giving you the benefit of the doubt that you were joking. My bad.
  15. The Devils have my phone number and have been calling me weekly to try and sell season tickets. I cannot imagine going to a game in January or February, but might be interested by spring time.
  16. i don't disagree, but they'd never do that (and len would probably want nothing to do with forcing him out) aren't you my anti-vin scully buddy too? Horrible take. And I have to believe that Pat is more popular than Len among Cubs fans too. I always liked Len, but Pat is the voice of the Cubs to me. More popular among a certain subset of Cubs fans, sure.
  17. You said it's none of our business who they employ. It is very much our business who they employ. At least half of our discussion, probably way more, is specifically about who they choose to employ. You made a really stupid comment, don't try and snark your way out of it. I’m more interested in learning more about how little the Cubs will get your attention *this time*. You could spend tens and tens of hours reading and posting about them in 2022 but this could be the last straw as well! not sure if you're mistaking me for Kyle or something. I never said I'm quitting them cold turkey. I had already cancelled my mlbtv subscription this past year. I'm not sure how much chatting about them on this website matters, but I've spent a lot more time on non-cubs threads.
  18. It's not any of the customer's business what product the company chooses to sell them? What the horsefeathers kind of nonsensical corporate apologia is this nonsense? That comment was related to the interpersonal relationship between on-air talent and their employer and personal reasons as to why/why not the talent stays or goes. Of course the product is the customer’s business. To that end, you or anyone else could stop consuming said product and prove that the employer’s calculation in changing the product was incorrect. Currency can be exchanged for goods and services. You said it's none of our business who they employ. It is very much our business who they employ. At least half of our discussion, probably way more, is specifically about who they choose to employ. You made a really stupid comment, don't try and snark your way out of it.
  19. my first instinct would have been to think it was longer, but i also wouldn't know the exact year harry started with the cubs without looking it up. Harry started for the Cubs in 1982 and worked until he passed away after the 1997 season. Len started in 2005 and went through the 2020 season. And nobody, NOBODY, held that job in the years between.
