  1. Agreed. I see the Cubs ones more often, but I assume that's only because those are the ones I read more often.
  2. What do you mean why isn't he considered?
  3. Yeah, but that thread is only 2 weeks old, and it's only been "brought back" twice since then and most of the thread isn't even related to the budhouse comments. The guy who started it has made multiple threads about his hatred for the sham closer. It's not like a one-time overreaction that people are hanging over his head.
  4. Agree. Although I will often flip over to the ESPN booth early to hear what their main talking points are going to be for the game, and I will go to the opposition's feed on occasion to hear what they are saying.
  5. They gave up a very good pitching prospect for him. I'm guessing it would take much more than that to convince them to trade.
  6. I'm beginning to dislike WGN games. My choice is the Houston feed on HD or Len and Bob on regular old uggo tv.
  7. The first sentence is correct, the second is wrong. There was always a possibility of us keeping him. They could have drafted him in the first place without any deal with Cincy.
  8. Wouldn't somebody who is willing to pay above face be described as somebody who really wanted them?
  9. All true Cubs fans went online and purchased tickets the day they went on sale. Actually, I'm just picking on you because I hate the whole idea of "true" fans, or the insinuation that those who end up paying more than face are not "true" fans. You're trying to purchase a product at less than the market rate. That's perfectly fine, and wise. But don't try and couch it as some noble cause of true fans.
  10. He's working on his give up lots of walks, hits and runs pitch so the results can be expected to be bad.
  11. That's a slippery slope, eventually a scalper is going to try and marry his own tickets and then it'll be anarchy.
  12. I don't know what you mean by 29/29, but I'm a proponent of the idea of 15 teams in each league, with one interleague matchup going on at all times. I don't see why interleague has to all be at once. I'd like to see something like the NFL's 1st plays 1st, 2nd plays 2nd system, having the WS opponents play a series, perhaps opening week.
  13. Worry about getting head hunters first, then talent down the road.
  14. Speaking of Wood, I really enjoyed watching him warm-up in the pen yesterday during the bottom of the 8th and having at least 3 of his pitches wind up somewhere around the Cubs dugout. One almost killed the 3rd base ump, another landed very close to the home plate ump. Not sure if that's standard for his warmups or not, but the Cubs might want to think about adding an extra guy behind the bullpen catcher to stop those.
  15. Pie is 0-12 with 1 BB and 2 K. Not a good start, but what kind of outs has he made in those 10 non K AB?
  16. Strikes me as a relatively low percentage for a closer, actually. I disagree, since some of those games the Cubs were already losing when he came in. If that were the percentage in actual save situations that would be different. I think he's just saying that in general, it would seem to be a low winning percentage for games in which a given team's closer appears, given that they're coming in with a 9th inning lead the vast majority of the time. The stat struck me the same way. But closers appear in non-closing situations relatively frequently, whether it be tied games, or blowouts. I'm not sure if that's a low percentage or not. Just looking at the list of guys with most saves, Rodriguez has only appeared in one Angels loss. Sherrill has been in 1, Nathan has been in 3. Lyon has been in 1. It looks like most closers have only appeared in 1-3 of their team's losses. The interesting thing with Wood is he's only been bad in 2 of those 5 losses. In 3 of them he did not give up a run or factor in the decision. They were just "getting some work in" situations or extra innings losses somebody else took the fall for. On a sidenote, no other MLB closer has appeared in more games than Wood, making you wonder if it's really necessary for Lou to be finding non-save situations for Wood to work in.
  17. If it makes it easier, you could treat Edmonds like all the MLB video games treat Bonds. Make up a hilarious fake name with the same number (I believe MLB games referred to Bonds as Reggie Stocker). LOL. I always liked PLAYER and then the number. I remember Jordan was PLAYER-23 on NBA games after he got his own. Edmonds could be PLAYER-15. The Bill Parcells treatment.
  18. He was cut 2 weeks ago. How fat can a MLB player get in two weeks? That was a poor choice of words. It makes sense that they would send him on some sort of "rehab" type stint within their system but calling it a chance to get back into playing shape is really weird. It would be cool if he went on a 2 week bender to Vegas or something and gained 20 pounds boozing up and eating garbage.
  19. That is a really absurd rule. The guy is a starter, he always has been. He briefly goes to the bullpen and that is enough to negate his starter status according to cbs? That's just plain old dumb with no rhyme or reason.
  20. People hated the pick before it was made. They don't have confidence in a high school hitter who didn't even hit as a senior, I believe. Top picks should be without flaws, his sickness may have been the sole reason why he wasn't special, but that's a chance you take later on, not at the top. A top 5 pick shouldn't have such a huge flaw on his resume. Furthermore, there has been nothing but bad news on him since he came out. There's enough obstacles for a top notch draft pick to make it as a major leaguer even when things go smoothly early. I don't see what's so irrational.
  21. It's possible. Unlikely, but possible. Felix possibly could have done the same thing playing against RHP only.
