    Yeah, ummmmmm, okay. I grew up in the Chicago area but have lived in the NY area for over a decade. I've met quite a few Cubs fans with no ties to Chicago. I don't really understand how that happens, but I don't really care either.

    Celebrating back to back .500 seasons was embarrassing. Saying you'd be happy if the team made the World Series is hardly having low expectations.

    viewtopic.php?f=8&t=48111 A similar poll was essentially 60/40 back in April. I'd be really hurt for a couple weeks if the Cubs made it to, then lost a World Series. But by mid-November, I'd be able to look back at this season and really appreciate how great is has been. I'd love to see 3 clinching celebrations this year. 4 would be the ultimate, but 3 wouldn't be bad. Content for a lifetime, obviously not. Satisfied with the season, absolutely.

    Dear Meph: Neither were the 05 White Sox or 06 Cardinals. the 05 White Sox had the #1 ERA in the AL and had 91 pythagorean wins. the 06 Cardinals....yeah, they sucked So, that's nothing special. There isn't a juggernaut AL team this year.

    They could win a championship, he put them in the playoffs every year but this one, remarkable feat. On one hand, he'll never get the opportunity elsewhere to play with the resources he has in NY, on the other hand, he takes so much abuse you have to wonder if it's worth it.

    Prior to the season I predicted Cubs/Mets NLCS, so I guess I'll just replace NY with PHI. Cubs in 4, Phils in 5, Angels in 4, Rays in 5 Phils in 6, Angels in 6 Angels in 5

    Source It looked to me like he got hurt breaking the huddle. He seemed to get up fine after the play, but didn't go down until after they went into the huddle for the next play.

    It depends on what is important to you. If the most important thing is going to the game, buy your ticket now, relax and enjoy. If you want to save some money, wait until you get there and deal with scalpers, while taking on the risk of fraud. If you want to try and get a deal, wait until after first pitch, risk missing an inning or more of exciting playoff baseball.

    in late round or championship matchups, I don't think it's standard in first round games.

    The thing about Millen leaving is that he was the GM/President, not the head coach. A coaching change may have inspired this team, but Millen's influence on the team was basically done once the season began. Detroit stinks. But they stunk last year and the Bears lost to them. Meltdowns against Detroit essentially cost the Bears a decent season. I don't think they are going to have a letdown game and I don't think Detroit is going to be effectively motivated by Millen's departure, even if the fans are on cloud nine. Bears are 4 point road favorites right now, not a small number. They are also 4-0 against the spread, and I'm inclined to think they cover, and cover easily this week.

    Elite pitcher equals what exactly? I love that you have to be 1995 Greg Maddux to be an elite pitcher. I also love that every bad game Zambrano has is because he's a headcase or he's injured. People have this image that old timey sportswriters have ingrained in their head that everything's mental and since Z shows emotion, that means he's a headcase who lets every ball called on him get in his head until he gives up a bunch of runs. It's never that Z misses his spot. It's never that the batter just got the better of him. It's that crazy forienger who can't handle any pressure. He's a meltdown waiting to happen I tellz ya! Like yesterday walks the bases loaded, gives up the grand slam, and then the floodgates came down. He lost his mind out there after giving up the grand slam and had to be straight-jacketed and cattle prodded to get him off the field. So you don't think Z's mental state has hurt him at times and that he's never struggled due to health reasons?
