    I agree. They played awful for most of the game until Forte was finally able to get it going. And Orton is unbelievably bad. This is way worse than Grossman ever was. At least when Grossman was bad it was because he was trying to make plays. The INTs by Orton last night were things a high school QB should know not to do. I'll admit, I've never been an Orton fan. But he's not going to take this team anywhere and I hope they don't sign him for next year. Disagree. When Grossman was at his worst he made last night's Orton look like a solid QB. At least when Orton is bad he still makes the occasional pass and doesn't completely crap the bed and give it all away. He's still been awful recently.

    1 of those was whistled behind his head while he was running fast in the opposite direction and another hit his hands only after he had to stop running and wait for the ball, giving the defenders time to also get their hands on the ball. If you expect Hester to be a jump ball phenom like Moss and Burress, you are being unrealistic. Hester is the type of receiver a QB has to lead or hit in stride. He's the only Bears receiver capable of getting consistent seperation, not counting the tight ends. Olsen didn't have problems with Orton's passes because they were lobbed into the flat. That type of pass does not require a ton of accuracy, they are easy to make, and easy to catch.

    The one thing working in the Bears favor is that NY has a bye week and thus doesnt' have to worry as much about resting guys for the first round.

    I believe the 12 playoff teams get the last 12 picks and then it's record. Bukie, I wouldn't be surprised with just about any outcome, from a blowout loss to a blowout win and everything in between. This team has been horribly unpredictable and inconsistent.

    Bears need to win out to make the playoffs. If the Vikings lose, the Bears win the NFC North, and are the 3 seed, and would host Dallas, Tampa, Philly, or Minnesota. If the Vikings win, but the Cowboys and Bucs lose, the Bears get the 6 seed and play at Minnesota. It sounds to me like a lot of the media, and probably many fans, are assuming 10 wins, which tells me they are probably going to lose tonight.

    My first thought was simply that Boston was calling Boras's bluff. He's notorious for getting the big money owners to bid against themselves. If they are saying Washington is offering X, we'd like you to match, why not back out?

    I think that's an incredibly inacurrate way to describe the Mets. They scored the 2nd most runs in the NL last year and their starters had the 5th best ERA. The bullpen was clearly a huge problem. They aren't just stars and scrubs.

    Dempster. Not sure why you "guess" Theriot had a career year, but he did. I don't think everybody had career years, but most guys performed at or above expectations. That's the rare part.

    You say this as if it would be really easy. You can't just get rid of guaranteed contracts. Peavy is the guy who costs the most and could most easily be traded without needing to eat money. He might decide to take his lumps, but he doesn't sound like the type of guy who would be happy losing millions.

    Except they aren't trading him for %&its and giggles, they can't afford to pay him. They won't be able to hold him hostage much past the time paychecks start going out. That might not be true any longer. I don't know if it's official at this point, but it sounds like Moores has caved and is putting the team up for sale. That's what I heard, but is that going to be resolved in three months? The only way he sells quickly is if he takes a lowball offer.

    It's not just "words". There's been a series of very poor behavior, including confrontations with fans. They didn't throw him out for having a potty mouth, they are blackballing him because he's a complete douchebag in every respect.

    If he does something entertaining three times a year it would be a miracle. A little chest shove after the whistle is not exactly hard to come by. Avery is a mysoginistic douchebag of the highest order.

    I don't see much wrong with people saying "very close" and then having it off the table. These things can get very close before falling apart. My problem is when they talk of things being done and then they fall apart.

    Avery DOES take it too far... but there needs to be a couple people like that in the league. Do you know how many friends of mine I show videos of Avery too and they actually give the Hawks or hockey in general a chance. It's entertaining and brings another dimension to the game. I think Avery could be very marketable as the bad boy, which he really is already. I'll bet none. Who would be that influenced by those videos to go from being a hockey agnostic to actually thinking it could be worth a shot?

    I'm interested in seeing how they come out, and what the coach's reaction will be. If they are incredibly flat, do they blame it on overconfidence from the blowout plus taking it too easy yesterday? This is one of those things where the coach is practically daring them to pull back the reins.

    So, its OK to almost end a guy's career or life with a slash or high stick, but make a few comments about sloppy 2nds and you are banned? Great to know. That's absolutely the dumbest thing I've ever heard. 1) Strawman 2) Prior records matter 3) The only time a guy's "career or life" was almost ended by a high stick/slashing incident was McSorely, and he never played in the NHL again, iirc. Seriously apete, you don't appear to know what you are talking about.

    Exactly... this is one thing we can agree on. My handle on every hockey site is "SeanAvery". Avery brings a dimension to the sport that is severely lacking. The agitator/nuisance/[expletive]... he is so entertaining to watch. When you get a rule made out of you, you know you're doing something right. He is the kind of player the NHL needs to widely market the sport. Thank you, IMB... you have inspired me to post my top 3 Sean Avery Videos, I know you'll enjoy them: Can't believe Avery didn't get a 10 game suspension for pushing Cindy in the chest here... Sean Avery does push ups to celebrate a goal in the eyeball of the opponent... amazing There are some sick compilations of all his [expletive] moments if you type "Sean Avery" into YouTube... "Sean Avery, Born to Raise Hell" is a good one. For those of you wondering, here is the "AVERY RULE": Amazing? More like pathetic. This is such an idiotic post. Hockey doesn't need more a holes. All this trash talking crap in every league is nothing but crap. It adds nothing and only exposes the players' own immaturity and self doubt. Avery tapping Crosby in the chest is a top video choice? You have terribly low standards.

    Lee? Fukudome and Zambrano to a lesser extent? That's what I was thinking too. Lee could probably do a little better next year, Zambrano's ERA should be closer to 3 than 4, and Fukudome should hopefully rebound from a terrible second half. I think Soriano and Aramis had down years. They were down from 07 and down from what I expected from them. Of course, Theriot, Soto, Derosa and CF was a lot better than expected. They were down marginally and past their prime years. I don't see how that can be considered underachieving. I'm not really talking about slight variations from expectations though. In comparison to his abilities, Soriano probably underachieves his potential. But that ship has sailed, and a .280/.344/.532 121 OPS+ season is about all you can hope for realistically. His 2004 season was significantly undperforming his typical season, especially when you consider he was 28 and should have been at his peak.
