  1. I wouldn't come close to approaching him like Castro. If Castro tears the cover off the ball, he's the starting SS. If Colvin tears the cover off the ball, there's no good reason to make him the 4th OF when this team is already stocked with 4th OFers. Let him take the full year, unless Soriano goes down again, then think about playing him. But if Colvin is going to reestablish himself as somebody worth hoping for, he needs to play everyday.
  2. Fine with me, let him sit.
  3. A year ago I may have said yes. When Orton was the QB, they needed something like TO to add to the passing game, and there wasn't much concern about ruining whatever limited future Orton had. But with Cutler here, I have no interest in TO. He's as cancerous as any player in sports. And he's not good anymore. TO is in full "prepare for his career after the NFL mode" which means it's all going to be about media attention, publicity and keeping his name out there. Screw that.
  4. Because franchise players never leave their teams in MLB?
  5. And they are looking at some CB from the Colts.
  6. A lot like this: http://www.chicagotribune.com/media/photo/2010-03/52551492.jpg
  7. +1. Spring training stats don't mean anything, but it helps to check guys out who you are deciding between. Millar shouldn't e on that list of guys to decide between, but take last year with Hill vs Bako, I'm sure it was quite helpful to see how each look to make a decision. But Bako was the same thing as Millar is, a washed up vet we already have a huge book on.
  8. Directv? So do you get all the channels in the 600-610 range?
  9. He's been out of the league for about as long as Delhomme has sucked, correct? When he left, Jake was still respected.
  10. Actually it is probably the most controlled environment of any tournament, and I would guess Augusta National will be able to control most of the circus type stuff by just not allowing it on site. From what I understand, they control everything involved in that tourny and are very swift in laying down the law.
  11. I think it all played a part, the act itself, the results, and the reputation. Troublemakers are always going to be at greater risk of punishment, that's how it works. If you do something stupid and nothing bad happens, you will have an easier time than if you do something stupid and something bad does happen.
  12. It probably doesn't make sense but I was thinking it was all about Comcast embarrassing rival directv or getting directv subscribers upset with their provider. I read speculation about that motive a few months ago. As I understand it Vs. just stays exactly where it was. Is that on a sports tier? I have all the sports channels (RSNs, etc.) so I don't know what is on what package. It's 603, up near all the random sports sites and just before all the RSN's, so I assume it is part of that sports tier. I thought Comcast was asking for more money per subscriber for the channel, as that has been the case in several content vs provider disagreements lately.

  14. And most of the opinion I've read was that it wasn't warranted. I agree. I hate it when the NHL looks at the outcome of a play to decide the punishment. No question, if Campbell had gotten up and not been hurt, Ovie would not have been suspended. That's ass backwards. I understand that sentiment, but I don't understanding how people can claim that wasn't a dirty hit, and that sort of thing shouldn't be punished. You shouldn't be able to shove a guy from behind into the boards. There's plenty of opportunity for big clean hits throughout the game, and any claims that this is a softening of the game is nonsense. Also, I have to say I don't have a problem with the punishment depending on the severity of the results of your actions. It happens all the time in all walks of life. You want to play like a jackass, well, you are going to be liable in some way shape or form for the consequences of your actions.
  15. Actually I expect people to offer something more then the above. But at least I don't embarrass myself like you so often do and have done in this thread. Why are you so Angry? Do you need a hug? This is getting creepy. I'm also not sure how I "embarassed" myself in this thread simply because I don't agree with your declaration that all of the movies that won Best Picture in the 90's are better than the ones that did in the 00's. I also don't see how the list of 90's winners proves movies were better than in the 00's..
  16. Turned it on last night for no good reason, just to confirm it was back.
  17. Funny words from a guy whose entire philosophy for winning relied on developing pitchers, and then put the entire weight of the franchise on a couple young arms.
  18. Well, they also need catchers in the minor league camps.
  19. It's not just special circumstances. They paid an obscene amount of money for a marginal, at best, player. Even if you argue that the cap means all bets are off, there's still a budget, which this contract affects, and if there is a season in 2011 there will be a cap, which this contract will affect. These signings have been praised in Chicago, and largely ridiculed elsewhere. I think the proper response is more in between. The TE signing was not good. Peppers was a huge risk, but at least it's for a guy they desperately needed and somebody who can have a significant impact on the game. I'm not all that excited about Taylor, but at least he's decent. The TE though is troubling. No you wouldn't, you'd want to be on a team that could help you achieve your goals over the next two years so you can sign what may end up being your last chance at making significant money for the rest of your life. And you'd probably realize Chicago is not close to the best option for that to happen.
  20. In this case there is no point, but in some cases it could do more harm than good if you're spoiling the players opinion of the organization. If it's blatantly obvious that he's the best option, but you keep him down to save a few million three years from now, that can piss off the player.
  21. That was my point when I criticized the signing. In theory it's harmless and meaningless. But with the Cubs, in practice it almost always involves them letting one worthless piece of crap veteran take up roster space without the ability to add an ounce of value to the team.
  22. This just in, Peter King is a moron. Film at 11. But what does that have to do with this note? The Bears paid an obscene amount for what is from all accounts a mediocre blocking tight end, and they aren't going to be using Greg Olsen this season. He has only 2 seasons to set his free agency price, so he should want out ASAP. King is right.
  23. They don't have to do such a thing, but there's pretty much no chance they would trade Theriot and not callup Castro.
  24. I'd guess the Cubs would have to do a major sell job before any contender would actually come calling for any of these guys. They would have to be viewed as fallback options.
  25. I hate Theriot too, partially irrationally. If they could trade him I'd love it. But as long as he's here, there's a significant likelihood that he will be at least as good as Castro right now. I would hate to see them go out and trade for a guy like Theriot, or sign somebody like that to a free agent contract when Castro is poised to take the position, but there's nothing wrong with status quo for now, and there are added benefits that should not be ignored. As a Chicagoan, i think my biggest worry is that the cubs treat theriot like the bulls treat Hinrich. What i mean by that is that they sign theriot to a overpaid long term deal eventhough he's a scrappy average player. And then they would justify it by saying he's a hard working player. I feel the cubs FO, Management and Some fans have built Theriot's ego to where he actually thinks he's a very good player and one of the best at his position. The notes that the front office was upset with Theriot this offseason makes me think maybe that won't happen. It won't keep a worthy Castro down forever. He just had his first arbitration contract, so he's a little bit away from free agency.
