    Very true, I just have little to no interest in limping into the playoffs and getting swept in three games again. To me, that winds up being about as fulfilling as having missed the playoffs by a few games. Go big or go home, as they say. I could not disagree more. As the White Sox in 2005 and Cards in 2006 proved, no one "limps" into the playoffs. That just proves that occasionally a team that backs into the playoffs can go all the way. But more often than not, the weak teams are going to get bounced. I don't think anyone was implying that it was likely. I was just disagreeing with the notion that 2 unlikely WS champs means no one limps into the playoffs.

    Why would you want that at all? Jay Jackson in the major league bullpen is better than Jay Jackson in the AAA bullpen. He's already relieving, might as well get something out of it.

    Ha. I never said I was concerned, I said I thought it was odd, that's all. What do you find odd? And why is it odd? People were mocking Theriot for his lack of power, and yet are praising Castro for his ability to put the bat on the ball. I know the age difference, makes it more impressive on Castro behalf, but essentially Castro has been Theriot with better defense since his first game. And what is odd about that. He's 20, Theriot is 30. Everybody said Castro's power isn't there yet. What is odd?

    More of a potential upside with Nady. With Dye you know he can't hit righties at all at this point. Nady potentially gives you someone off the bench who isn't as limited offensively. I suppose. But if we were looking to acquire a right-handed PH (which is all Nady is at this point) then we should have just brought someone up off the farm. At this point, but by the summer he's supposed to be a good option to platoon with Kosuke.

    They said all along they were going to be cautious early. It's mid-May and the weather has sucked in the Philly/NY corridor for the past day.

    The talk was Nady at full strength by June 1. I really don't have a problem with this (and don't really care what his 10 career PA in cbp say). Nady has been terrible vs lefties this year and could very easily not be ready to be out there.

    They were clearly the most talented roster in January 2007, I really don't think it was a stretch to say they were the most talented in the summer of 2007. Unfortunately, they were also very poorly coached and a lot of that talent either stopped developing or capsized, and they also didn't bring in any fresh talent so the talent level stagnated and began to decline in comparison to others.

    OMG you are one of THOSE Cubs fans. Going to a baseball game is supposed to be an act of reverence and a time for calm reflection. That's what the troughts are for.

    To be a real number 1 in a 30 team league, why must you be top 10? Because equating the #1 pitcher across all 30 teams is idiotic Who equated them? He's talking about a true number 1 and a top ten list (a list that can change in any given year and one that Zambrano has spent time in). A true number 1 is just an arbitrary rating.

    Right, so why wouldn't he want to go to one of those instead of some sweep of a doubleheader in May of 2004? Because he's trolling? Yes. Jake is definitely trolling. And he's also definitely the only one doing so in this thread. I know Jake isn't a troll, but that response was just dumb. Why would that be the one game he would want to go to? Congrats those wins really meant a lot for your franchise they propelled you to 6 more losing seasons. Meanwhile you could have watched Honus Wagner play. Maybe it's not what his real answer would be to this option, if it were real, and maybe he was just kidding around. So maybe it's not dumb.

    Sure they could, but they chose to spread it around to several starters. But what is your point? Zambrano isn't perfect. So what? He's been very good, and for much of his career he was worth way more than he was paid. He hasn't been as good as he was at his best, but his decline has been grossly overstated and your nitpicking of him just doesn't make much sense. He's been the best pitcher on perhaps the best pitching team in the NL over the past decade.

    You can't treat him like everybody else, but there's nothing wrong with pressing him to try harder.

    To be a real number 1 in a 30 team league, why must you be top 10? During the regular season it doesn't matter much. Would you want to enter the playoffs with your best starter not even among the 10 best in the league? Obviously I'd like the best player possible at every single position. It would be sweet to have Schilling and Johnson atop the rotation, but that doesn't happen for most teams.
