  1. Yes you are. Why else would you keep bringing up Fox and ESPN? I've said nothing about markets nor prestige in my posts. You may want to go back and re-read them. I've said how the Big 12 signing a deal with Fox takes money away from ESPN. You show me where I've mentioned markets or prestige. The very nature of the topic encompasses markets, without a doubt. And prestige as well, since that's what drives a lot of eyeballs.
  2. Why do you insist on being a dick? I was just providing evidence that I was not the only one who thought this way. Neyer is pretty respected baseball writer not some smuck on a message board who insists on acting 12 whenever he can. You mean "schmuck." And why do you insist on trumping up such an inane, ridiculous argument with outdated editorials from the likes of Neyer? These are mysteries the world will never solve. The likes of Neyer over anonymous people on the internet? I think I'll take Neyer. I'm not trumping anything. I was just providing a piece of information for schmucks like you, who insist on acting like a teenager for chuckles from your buds. Obviously if the Cubs DFA Soriano it will because he doesn't have value. When will they do this if ever? We'll have to wait and see. Even still, there's a huge difference between maybe eventually releasing him in the future, to teams willing to take him with the Cubs paying the chunk of the deal. You were just dead wrong on that assessment. It makes no sense.
  3. I don't get what you are talking about. Neyer is the preeminent "good stats" guy in the media. And that article was about a grossly overpaid player who is going to be old and bad. That's not what have you done for me lately. That's just thinking realistically.
  4. This is tough. Campbell showed his worth in the playoffs. And I think a #3 (though he's arguably the 4th best d-man on the team behind Hammer) defenseman is harder to come by than a 3rd or 4th line winger. So I would lean toward keeping him. I also don't think the situation is quite as dire as Kyle suggests, especially if Huet is banished to Rockford. No question that Campbell was excellent in the playoffs. But if we have to part with all of those guys that Kyle suggested, I'd be willing to take the hit and get rid of Campbell's contract over getting rid of all of those other players. But it's not all of them vs. Campbell. Madden is gone no matter what. So is Sopel. He mentioned Buff, Sharp, Versteeg, Niemi and Hammer. It's probably any two of these guys vs. Campbell. I don't buy that they all have to go. Getting rid of Campbell's deal would allow them to keep some guys we are assuming are gone. The problem is they probably can't get rid of him, but if they do they'd have to take back a bad deal, so there's no point.

  7. My understanding is that ESPN wants the Big 12 to stay alive because they were afraid of a huge Fox deal with a 16-team Pac 10/Big 12. But with Fox being the network in charge of the new TV contract for the Big 12, they're surely taking dollars away from ESPN. Thus, if the Big 12 collapsed, it's less of a hit on ESPN than it would be to them if the conference remains and signs a mega deal with Fox. I don't get your whole Fox versus ESPN talk. Fox tried playing with ESPN, they lost, like a decade ago.
  8. Because the only meaningful thing about basketball is the tournament and for that conference alignment doesn't really mean much.
  9. Did somebody say the big 12 network would compete with ESPN?
  10. Somebody big and meaingful, not Nebraska.
  11. Stopping at Nebraska would be a hilarious misstep by the Big Ten. Adding a has been program with no eyeballs does absolutely nothing for them, and it wastes their best effort to actually get the school they've always wanted.
  12. Well then you shouldn't dive if you don't want to get unfairly punished for breaking the rules. Diving isn't so cut and dry that you can make those types of decisions. There are plenty of cut and dry ones. If you announce that you will hand out yellows after the fact to anybody who is found to have taken a dive, and a player dives, then he should play the rest of the game with the knowledge that he might have a yellow since he took a dive.

  14. It's only because he made less in the first couple years. Don't pay attention to that fangraphs nonsense, their $ values are terribly skewed. I was going off average annual value. And the fangraphs numbers are skewed if you don't understand what they are trying to say. I understand what they are trying to say and it's dumb.
  15. It's only because he made less in the first couple years. Don't pay attention to that fangraphs nonsense, their $ values are terribly skewed. Agreed, but it's still ridiculous to say that he has almost negative value right now even if the Cubs picked up a good chunk of his contract. Absolutely.
  16. Why? Outside of the first month, he never had a month with an OPS below .835, and he's at .838 for his career. Outside of missing time due to injury he was very good in 2008 and a critical part of that team's success. A SLG heavy OPS that isn't even all that impressive of an OPS to begin with.

  18. laughter is the best medicine
  19. The cancer bit? It was edgy, it was not my sort of thing but some of those people out there, they really liked it.
  20. We are all Paraguayians!!!
  21. i have to say, if niemi is really like this, i disapprove. i want a cocky, attention-whore goalie who's pissed that he has to wear a mask. a goalie who desires to be in the spotlight and around the action. someone who is smiling under all that gear when we're all clenching our asses and grinding our teeth. Why? The only reason would be to reassure you that you can win. But that guy would also get an inordinate salary based on his marketability. Screw that.
  22. The little italian kids don't see to know the words to their national anthem.
  23. That's it. He's not good enough defensively to play CF full time and doesn't hit with enough power to play one of the corner spots. From what I've seen in both the minors and with the Cubs his arm his strong and accurate and he's a decent route runner, but nothing spectacular. I'm not sure why so many people here are so down on him, I think he might be able to start on a team that gets power else where, but for most teams in the post steroid era he's likely to be a backup. Personally, I'm not "down" on him altogether. A 4th OF can be very useful. I'm just down on the idea of him as a starter with the way this OF is constructed for now and likely will be for a while to come. If the Cubs had sure things who were younger in one or both of the other OF spots, OK, but that's not the case. As it stands right now, looking to make Colvin a starting position player wouldn't be likely to help this team except in regards to payroll. It's not only that lack of other OF, but the other corner infielders, and no "Chase Utley" type to provide replacement power at another position.
  24. I have to laugh at the notion that those horns are part of their culture.
  25. He was definitely in "need to rally mode" before going on stage.
