  1. I really like Bolland. And I think you trade the guys who get you the most in return, not necessarily the guys you think you can most afford to lose. In that case, we should trade toews right away. Obviously I'm talking about among the group of possible trade bait.
  2. it doesn't have to be like that. you can put michigan and ohio st, illinois and northwestern, etc in different divisions and then make those guaranteed games against the other side. like michigan would play their divisional rivals every year (say, PSU, MSU, wisconsin, minnesota and northwestern) every year, then play ohio st on the other side every year, then rotate two of the other five (indiana, purdue, illinois, nebraska, iowa) on the schedule each year. lest anyone say this is unfair, purdue's "locked" games right now are indiana and northwestern, while ohio st has to play michigan and penn st every year. Exactly my point. They already guarantee a game being played without playing everybody else, so I don't see the big deal.
  3. My point is, they don't have to lose it.
  4. Colvin has 116 PA. I thought Todd was slightly better than that. Hollandworth's first 118 PA's that year: .327/.432/.633/1.065 I was thinking he had eclipsed the 1000 OPS.
  5. Wells Fargo is in San Fran.
  6. I really don't see it as that big of a deal. It's also not a big deal to put them in the same division. That's how I would do it. I'm just saying the other option isn't impossible.
  7. Sure, it's a potential. But it's no guarantee. And any championship game can take place between two teams that have recently played each other. What if Wisconsin beats OSU in the 2nd to last week, then has to play them in the championship and loses? I think all these what if scenarios aren't all that important. When you decide to have a championship game, you open yourself up to all sorts of quirks. But I believe if both UM and OSU are atop their divisions, that game will be huge, and if they have to go play again a week later on neutral ground, it will be huge again.
  8. I really don't see it as that big of a deal.
  9. Then I guess I'll just say that claiming I declared them dead is idiotic. Seems to me that you were implying it. Then I will repeat, that's idiotic.
  10. But you can do the same thing with east/west, plus make it a hell of a lot easier for fans/students to travel to games.

  12. i'm unemployed (between jobs)... frankly with the world cup and nice weather, i've picked a good time to be jobless. Not to mention a hell of a week to stop sniffing glue.

  15. But at the same time those teams are already much better than Chicago. Those teams simply have to tread water, the Cubs have to get significantly better. That certainly makes it more difficult, but it doesn't keep us from being able to contend once we only have $37 mil (Soriano and Z) in bad contracts by 2012. And if Aramis can rebound next year, then we're better off than Boston and just slightly worse off than the Phillies. And I like Z's chances of being good next year more than almost anybody else I listed. Obviously nothing will prevent it from being possible. The whole point is it's more difficult. In baseball, what happens at the margin is what matters.
  16. the couch vegetable has spoken.
  17. I'm sure every team has several, including the Blackhawks.

  19. I think that's debatable. Not trying to justify the Z or Soriano contracts, but I still can't figure out what the hell Philly was thinking with that extension. Unless Utley is an idiot and is just going to accept a non-comparable deal out of the goodness of his heart, that's going to mean around $50 million a year locked up in just two players. Utley I could see arguing being worth it, but Howard? That's nuts. I think it was about keeping together a rare Phillies team that created interest in the city. They don't live and don't with that team, so if they see it falling apart, the fans could bail. It also helps when you've already won a WS, been to another, and have been raking in greater than expected revenues as a result.
  20. no, i'm telling you what i think will happen. you disagree. i follow college football plenty and i'm well aware that michigan has not been good the past two years. Michigan has sucked the past two years. When good teams struggle, they generally lose maybe 4 games. what point are you making here? That saying they haven't been good is an hilarious understatement. Good teams struggle from time to time, but it's usually brief, and not all that drastic. Back to back disastrous seasons, that came on the heals of an already disappointing season, rarely indicate just a hiccup.
  21. Football coaches love to talk about how guys practice. He's probably got better footwork or something.
  22. I'm guessing it's padding to prevent a bunch of broken fingers and allow them to punch/slap balls away without harm. And I'm not sure if they have some sort of "grip" like wide receiver gloves in football.

  24. Does not compute.
  25. to help not catch the ball That...doesn't really make sense, but given it is soccer, I can't tell if you're being serious or not. I was commenting on all the goalie missplays, including that last goal that the goalie let bounce off both hands, the US goal, etc.
