  1. Except it's something that's done in every game. It's pandering. said by someone who has watched 2 soccer games in 4 years i mean, i get what youre doing, and i can give respect player to player, but you're a [expletive] I've watched almost every world cup game that's taken place during the week, and several euro games this past year. It looks silly, so does exchanging jerseys.
  2. The difference is they are applauding a good movie. Players are applauding people for applauding them, not to mention, the way in which they do it is what's most silly. Holding your hands over your head halfassedly putting them together, walking around a little more and doing it again. I think it looks silly.
  3. It's why I took off this morning. Last night I was hanging with a Celtics fan who was DVRing that game and didn't want to hear anything (even though he was getting home in plenty of time to watch the entire second half), and today in the office some guy is DVRing the game and has told people not to say anything. That's a bunch of BS if you ask me. A dozen people who all know what happened can't say anything because you are going to watch a sporting event 12 hours after it happens? Screw off.

  5. Would you prefer the bow/courtsey? I'd prefer nothing. It's silly. Acknowledging the crowd is weird? Just end the game and walk off? yes, it is.
  6. Would you prefer the bow/courtsey? I'd prefer nothing. It's silly.
  7. I cannot stand the players clapping over their heads. It's the dumbest looking thing in sports, aside from tennis players clapping their rackets.
  8. what a clutz
  9. It'll be a story, but referees screwing teams is just one of the fun parts of the game and happens pretty regularly. So soccer has idiots who like the human element as well?
  10. Because there were other things to mention, like Lee sucking not being unusual.
  11. these announcers are ripping the ref
  12. whistle blew early
  13. you can look, but you can't touch. but if you do touch, I'll buy a GM
  14. if they hold on to draw, what's their status?
  15. Agreed. The kicker for me was the statement that they had a pre-draft deal worked out. This now smells a lot like a pick made for cost savings. Hasn't it looked like that all along.
  16. Both. Do you think that's really different than most big payroll teams? Maybe he spends more on RPs and role players than other teams, but I don't know the details of some other rosters. Seems to me like he just picks the wrong guys to go after. I think he's a little unique in the 3/9 type deals he hands out to backups and utility players. I'm not sure many teams sign the Miles/Neifi kind of contract. Or if they do, they actually get players who are useful in those roles, instead of 26th man type players.
  17. I've seen way too much of this ref.
  18. Nonsense. Lee was nearly just as bad from May 2008-April 2009. He's had a very unspectaculiar career for a 1B, with a couple stand out years. Hogwash. Didn't Lee finish 09 with a .972 OPS? His numbers have been better since the extension. Based on 162 game averages, his OPS prior to his extension with the Cubs in 06, his career OPS was .847. After the extension, his career OPS is .877. It depends on how you would define "spectacular", but i think he has been very good, and deserves the contract he got. Also, he has had a .908 OPS in a Cub uni, which puts him among the top 20 active OPS in all of baseball right now. If you remove his 2 worst years and his 2 best years, he still has a career OPS of .871, which is very respectable. Also, having the 122nd highest OPS in the history of MLB baseball is spectacular. Lee sucks this year, but he also sucked from May 2008 - April 2009. This is not unprecedented. I'm not saying he didn't necessarily deserve his contract, but he's been a second rate 1B the vast majority of his career, and should not be a high payroll team's three hitter year in year out.
  19. grab your nuts
  20. I love the cure-all spray can they use for injuries.
  21. yep Again...if we're really looking to build through the farm, I want Boston's draft. Then pony up for all the overslots and give the commish the finger while doing so. Exactly. And they still have money set aside for Latin America (and even a few Asian prospects). Does it look like the overall draft budget is down? Because that's the only way you can put this on ownership. I don't see them refusing to pay the extra few hundred thousand.
  22. He already quit. He's just still drawing a check. It's clearly a glitch that needs to be fixed. stapler Lou will just not be back next year, and Hendry will hopefully be fired by October.
  23. If you can't complain about executives or owners being cheap, what's the point of writing about sports?
  24. Absolutely. Ramirez is a fabulous second banana. Lee has on occasion been a star, but he's usually just an also ran in the 1B department. The really good lineups have ARod or Manny or Pujols or Utley. If you are a huge budget team, you should have one of that type of player, plus the Aramis type. you guys, you can't sign ARod or Utley AND Ramirez and Lee and still have $5m to throw at middle relievers and 2 years of Neifi Perez. You can always find room for Neifi. He's like Jell-O.
