  1. You ask that as if he's got 3-4. He's got 1 so far in his career. And he's yet to do it over a full season of 180-200 innings either. Still, he could be your 2nd more reliable starter next year. That's not good. If you can call monthly end points over 2 seasons full years from Lee, can I add up the random innings Wells had before '09 and put them on to his 2010 season? And Wells threw 191.1 professional innings last year. Pretty sure Carlos Zambrano would be the 2nd most reliable starter behind Dempster. You're acting like these guys are getting by on pure luck this year and they're not. You trade Silva's bloated ass, fill out the 5th with Diamond/Jackson/Cashner and have the other 2 as swingmen/AAA insurance. It's not complicated, and that's an above average rotation. Again, this team may have Cashner pencilled into the bullpen and we have no idea where Zambrano will be. I'm not sure what 2008 innings would have to do with Wells' 2010.

  4. If you assume they have penciled Cashner into a relief role and are doing anything they can to get rid of Zambrano, they don't really have an abundance of starting pitchers. Silva is having a fluke year, Lilly is gone, Wells has hit a rough patch or two. Dempster is the only stable guy returning. Gorzo has been good for the Cubs but is in no way a lock for 200 innings of solid starting. You have some arms in the minors, but all of them have major question marks. The Cubs have 5 starters who have performed at an above average rate this year (Lilly included) They also have a guy with a better track record than all of them in the pen. They also have Cashner, Jackson, and Diamond as major league ready arms. Yes, if we're going to talk in the Cubs are [expletive] stupid terms, sure they might not be stocked enough because they'll turn Jay Jackson into a 3B and release Carlos Zambrano, but what is the point in talking about that. Well the Cubs like to carry 12 pitchers, and have talked about wanting 7 guys available for starting duty. If Lilly is gone and Zambrano is god knows what, they will be counting on a combination of Dempter, inconsistent track records and prospects to fill out a rotation. Who cares? At this point it is better to lose and get a better draft pick. Finishing .500 does us no good as a franchise. I'm not getting your response here.
  5. FanGraphs was a big fan of his 2007-2009 years. Given his numbers, previous production, and the fact that he'll be 35 for a good chunk of next season makes me think he'd be worth a 2-3 year deal in the offseason. The 6 month period from May 2008 through April 2009 makes this season the second full season's worth of play (assuming he keeps playing like this) where he was a big disappointment. He seems to be a lot like a Vladdy type who is going to get a 1 year prove it contract.
  6. Teams have not shown a great willingness to hand out multi year contracts to old players (and Lee is old) coming off bad seasons. Sure he's probably love a 4 year contract. I don't see anybody giving him one.

  9. Give several guys an off day at once or spread the pain out over multiple games? I don't think there's a perfect answer. But Soto is banged up and the other guys who sat are older dudes that have been playing every day in the middle of the summer. One of the guys that was sitting, Lee, has sucked balls all year, and Soriano has been pretty mediocre all month long. Their hottest bats that were healthy (Ramirez and Castro) played, and the other guy, Byrd, is on pace to play more than he's ever played in his career.
  10. Anyone else joining me on the Lake in the top 5 bandwagon yet? I hope there's more than 4 better than him. He's either got the highest or second highest ceiling in the system. In his age 20 season, he's made incredible strides with his plate discipline. He's absolutely murdering the ball for around 130 AB's now. In my mind, the only ones with good arguments for being higher other than this year's draftees are: B Jackson Vitters HJ Lee Archer McNutt J Jackson I can't see anyone arguing that someone like Flaherty or LeMahieu are better prospects at this point. Carpenter has both injury and performance concerns. He's been impressive of late, I'm just saying I'd hope there were better, but I should have typed 5 better, instead of 4.
  11. I'm just going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume this was a joke.

  13. The conclusion is that the Cubs are a bad baseball team.
  14. I kind of like how they are just letting Bobby Howry go down in a ball of flames.
  15. The Twins aren't odd. They are probably on 95% of all no trade clauses, because if you get traded there you are in Minnesota.
  16. I'm just hoping they cut all ties. Don't care about potential picks.
  17. I hope they find a way to blame this game on young relievers.
  18. You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. What am I wrong about? Just because Cutler has a lot of talent doesn't mean he didn't play badly last year. He most certainly did for big portions of the season. I don't even see how this is debateable. You called a stretch of good bad and average games "downright putrid". That's absurd.
  19. I wonder if Lou values Soto on days like this.
  20. How do you let a guy score from 1st standing up on a double down Houston's LF line? The ball has nowhere to go and is like 17 feet from 3B. Oh, and Wells' day goes from wildly effective to pretty crappy in a hurry.
  21. Kind of agree. Koyie Hill has a 056 OPS in July. Can he get sub 400 for the year?
  22. I just can't let blatant wrongness lie there like that.
