    Do you think the Cubs are really close to that point? Is there a single player on the team that you would say is an elite defender? Maybe Barney? Otherwise the best case is guys like Crisp, DeJesus, Byrd, and Jackson, who aren't going to be Brett Gardner in racking up runs saved. I think there's enough room on the field for those types of marginal improvements to be realized, even across many positions. There's not enough room in the lineup to justify such paultry production for such marginal defensive improvement.

    I have a problem pretending you know how many runs a guy prevents with his glove, and then pretending a run created = a run prevented. I also have problem with the notion that everybody is very happy to forecast the decline in runs created via the bat with age and then ignoring the decline in 30-something year olds whose defensive value is tied very closely to their legs.

    If the Cubs are keeping their bid amount locked down, there's no amount of trading numbers that could lead to others knowing if we outbid the Blue Jays or not. Unless the people who do know have already given indications.

    When learning the game of football what Harrison did was a complete no-no. Absolutely horrible form. But the NFL 50 years ago was nothing but horrible form if you look at the videos. It became all about the collision and not about the tackle. The Harrison apologists are complete morons with no sense. It's so easy to make good plays without doing that (assuming you are good enough to make a play in the first place).

    I'm probably just grasping at straws here but who's to say that Boras didn't call them and they've been talking ever since? Remember, Epstein did go to law school and like most lawyers, he's likely a master when it comes to not divulging any information that he doesn't have to. "Initiated" is the key word there, I think. That's a pretty easy way for Sveum to downplay potential Cubs' interest in Prince without lying. Playing hard to get. Theo is a player with a desperate girl who has daddy issues just dying to get with him.

    Until the Bears signed him I had never heard of him, and half the time I saw him this season I thought, "oh yeah, he's a Bear, I forgot about him."

    Nothing irrational about the parent company dictating what assets it wants, but it's very irrational for the parent company to tell them to pay whatever it takes. I'm sure they meant it literally I'm sure it was just a BS line.

    Perhaps a move similar to the Soriano signing in an attempt to boost franchise value prior to a sale? The Tribune was in a state of upheaval at the time and the Cubs were already up for sale, so it's quite different.

    That's all kinds of goofy. So a Canadian broadcast conglomerate is dictating the Jays' baseball operations? Maybe next they'll ask Jose Bautista to manage their 4G rollout. They also own the team. Yes I know. Then why do you find it goofy that the owner of the team is trying to control the operations of the team? That's all kinds of goofy. I do find it odd that a corporation such as Rogers would make such a proclamation involving such a small portion of their operation. Shareholders aren't going to like it.

    He's only been accused (by himself) of not being involved in drugs, we have to assume until proven otherwise that he is guilty.

    faster, better diagnosis, bigger pads. Faster, stronger, better diagnosis and a better understanding of the risks from getting a concussion. I was knocked cold making a tackle toward the end of a high school football game. I came out of the game but there was no question on Saturday morning that I was going to be practicing all week and playing the next week. Post-concussion syndrome was basically just, I got my bell rung but I'm okay. Nobody could get away with missing prolonged periods due to concussion issues without being labeled a huge [expletive].

    we're talking coke and pot here, not steroids. People will freak about steroids, not coke and pot (unless they do something illegal with coke on them).

    All the stories I read about the Matsuzaka posting indicated Boston reporters had no idea because Theo never let things slip. If people are saying the Cubs don't have the money though, I'm guessing that is purposefully linked from the inside. Maybe they were relying on all that sweet Sam Hurd money.
